Im enjoying this so far
About 3 hours in and Im taking a break with the anime disc that came with it
Im enjoying this so far
Based on comfypilled.
Final boss of disk 1 is the hardest battle in the series as you are gonna lack a lot of the good shit. Horde healing items my nigga
Im level 5 right now and the combat seems pretty basic
Do later enemies start to ramp up in difficulty?
I loved this for the atmosphere, story and characters. The new games have a far better gameplay but the rest isn't as good as this in my opinion, especially not the atmosphere.
I always wished I would once play a MMO game and encounter some mysterious bugged area nobody else knew.
Yes but they get more tedious because the gear doesnt get as good to scale until late disk 2. You also have to occasionally solo dungeons(Disk 3 can go fuck itself. But you will be happy as shit once you get over the hill). It will always have a certain amount of difficulty but its only until later that you wont be at the razors edge every damn time.
user. There is nothing wrong with doing randomly generated dungeons. Get a guide to the Tear drop golden axe silver axe guys and upgrade armor and weapons EVERY FIELD. If they are unable to upgrade it they will give you 1 of each axe but make sure you are doing it right as occasionally the bastards will downgrade your gear if you do it wrong. Make sure you trade with ncps. And check the forums. You can get new members from doing quests there. Prioritize healing in gear on at least 1 character in your party. And if you DONT want to be the healer make sure you at least have an alternate set of gear for the solo quests for healing, which is easy, but horde healing items. Clear every room in every dungeon and every field. You need the exp. Blackrose is best girl and the most used and forced compainion. Prioritizing her gear and leveling with save you a LOT of trouble. The 3rd party member should depend on what your role/ nature of the boss monster is. If you need ranged dps/healing/buff take a wavemaster. If you need a tank/dps take an axe or lance. If you want skillfulness take a blademaster or duel blade.
Your next spike in difficulty is when you meet the bunny catgirl. Thats the make or break dungeon where you determine whether you want to keep playing.
Its one of the greats and it does my heart well that you are playing it. Fuck that nigger Skieth and God bless Aura.
why'd they remaster GU instead of this?
I can't finish GU, Haseo is too much of a dirty fucking cunt and I don't like the side characters.
Based and .hack//pilled
GU is more accessible than IMOQ. And it needed less of an overhaul to be released.
.hack// is good stuff.
I'm kinda miffed mutation and outbreak got stolen from me when I was a kid, haven't been able to get another copy of either since.
user that is so sad.
jesus fuck that is a lot of information
Shes canonically not kidding.
Its a useful rundown user. Skeith will rape his ass no matter how hard he grinds but it helps.
HE OF FAIR EYES
At least I got to play the whole series twice before they "mysteriously vanished"!
Blackrose needs to be more honest with herself.
7 years later she still hasn't confessed to Kite.
So is there any consequence for excessively using Data Drain?
Here's some advice for you. When you meet your first Wavemaster party member Mistral, she has some high-level Twin Blade weapons called Sotetsu. You should trade for these as early as you can as you won't get anything better for a good long while.
The game is pretty obnoxious with all its menus, but remember that party members won't use weapons or skills unless you direct them to.
Basically just keep your gear up to date, don't be afraid to spam First Aid commands and always keep everyone's health as topped off as you can for boss fights.
Yeah, make sure to kill a lot of stuff without data draining. If you get into the Danger zone you could lose items, level down, or even get a game over.
I never found this an issue until the 15 floor dungeon filled exclusively with data bugs you have to drain in //Quarantine.
Status conditions and even death. But you upgrade it as you do it as well. And gain cool little key items too.
He was a bro. I did a fuckton of dungeons with him.
Don't listen to Butt-Rice. Data Drain often, but stop once it gets to the red. Players' refusal to Data Drain is precisely the reason they're always short on Virus Cores when they need them most. You also get a higher chance of getting rarer items if you Data Drain while at higher infection levels. As long as you know when to pull back, you should Data Drain whenever you feel like it. Level downs aren't really that big of a deal, as leveling up is easy in these games.
My problem with GU was that it tried so hard to be cool and was aimed too much at teens. Still great games, but I miss the calm, mysterious attitude the former games had and I prefered their characters by far. The characters were also far more diverse too. In GU we have the dramatic teens and a few adult nerds, that's it. In the old games we had everything, a calm MC like Kite, a tsun like BR, but then we had adults like Marlo, Gardenia, Mistral and tons of others like Terrajima and whatnot including the AI clones of the SIGN characters even.
Gardenia's eighteen. I guess you could call her an adult but she had some obvious childishness. I liked how she obviously seemed to enjoy playing with Kite. One of the reasons I kinda want a .hack remake is so that they can expand on moments with the non-story-important party members.
so is this series what happens before the caninu and felineko uprising after humanity gets fucked?
They're very much different "genres" if that makes sense. .hack//IMOQ was made by people involved with Evangelion and Ghost in the Shell, and so the tone is a lot more somber and mysterious.
.hack//G.U. is made to be like a shounen anime turned into game format, complete with tournament arcs, rival characters, and over-the-top character growth. It's a good way to keep a series fresh, by adopting an entirely different genre.
I absolutely adore //G.U's high energy and intensity just as much as I love //IMOQ's heavy atmosphere.
This would be so great. .hack's biggest strong point was always character drama and development as well as the whole online VS offline mystery every character had. I remember how happy I was whenever I managed to find some little tiny hint about the offline life of some of the characters through talking with them per mail or something.
I wish we would get new .hack games one day and that they would get back to the roots of the first franchise.
I mean we recently got the short forth volume for GU which is at least something, but still.
Speaking of it, wasn't there a new Tailconcerto annouced?
I remember reading about it last year. I remember it was darker than the former games, more war related.
Personally, I think CC2's really been missing the mark with games after the original. I mean, G.U.'s okay, but .hack//Link destroys pretty much everything that was great about .hack to begin with. The subsequent phone games are a little more true to form in terms of atmosphere, but they're also PHONE GAMES and are a little too heavy on the fanservice.
you get to use furfags as tank ammo
GOTY
Never finished Infection.
It was painfully obvious there were some furfags working at CC Corp.
I would.
>People don't use Data Drain, despite all its benefits
>"UGGGHHH WHY DON'T I HAVE ENOUGH VIRUS CORES, WHY IS THIS GAME MAKING ME GRIND"
how does this bitch know about my bracelet?
makes me want to call her a fucking nigger for not wearing any pants
Ah, the legendary ButtRICE is here to grace us with his presence.
There are few things I wouldn't.
It's because she's your IRL cat wearing a VR headset obviously.
Don't call me Butt Rice! It's not a butt symbol it's a little OHM symbol!
>I remember how happy I was whenever I managed to find some little tiny hint about the offline life of some of the characters through talking with them per mail or something.
The original's atmosphere and characters always felt heavily influenced by the communities of actual MMORPGs of the time like EverQuest. Before voice chat was around I had moments like this all the time.
I hate LINK so fucking much.
Yeah at least one of the phone games sounded interesting, plotwise, I just wish they would have made an actual game of it. I couldn't even play them because I am not good enough in JP to understand what's going on. Understanding audio is so so but reading kanji is impossible.
Have you seen the designs for Kite and Haseo in one of the mobile games, think it was called Guilty Dragon or something like that? Kite and Haseo look so damn cool in that game but it seems like they're bad guys you to fight.
For some reason I want to see some VR world like in .hack but with a furry game like this one. Only that the furries aren't real but actual humans behind a computer instead.
I generally liked the lowkey changes GU's world had. The first World was typical fantasy, in GU it's more like steam fantasy. The logical consequence would be the next game to be scifi or just something completely different because The World got shut down after all of the bullshit CC has done but some intels survived and created their own MMO with some copied AI data and software from the old game.
so can I change my weapons at all or am I stuck with twin blades
They're Phantom A.I.s.
I only own the first 3, still trying to find a copy of Quarantine
Oh yes, Giraffe Kite really made me double take.
This. And this is a thing most other MMO related anime and game in a game-games miss, stuff like SAO and the likes never felt like games to me. They rather feel like typical fantasy even though the characters tell you that there is a real world behind that world. Not talking about the quality of such games, just the game feeling that isn't really there.
I really liked Jesus Tsukasa.
The only ones I've seen that actually nail it are the original .hack games (the anime doesn't) and Log Horizon. Ironically in Log Horizon they actually are in another world, just one that seems like a game.
Wow, they were not being subtle here. Only long neck Kite, maximum edge Haseo and our lord and savior Tsukasa look remotely good.
It's kinda strange how rare this is considering that gaming is mainstream nowadays. I always found the game in a game concept pretty damn cool.
YOU'RE A NOOB AREN'T YOU
SPOKEN LIKE TRUE NEWBIE
What were they even about? Were they some gate keeper AI clones or something?
>tfw Last Recode was exactly what I had been asking for
Feels good that they realized nobody gave a shit about Atoli and instead gave focus to Haseo and Ovan
>WHATEVER SCRUB CHECK MY DPS YOU JOBBER
Why did she have to say it like this?
I always wanted an alternative timeline to SIGN/IMOQ in which the evil Aura awakens instead somehow. But a proper story, not whatever Link was.
Nobody knows because nobody bothered to translate anything about Guilty Dragon. I just wish they didn't waste those sick designs of Kite, Haseo and Tsukasa on some random and probably non-canon mobile game.
Blackrose was always a smug cunt whenever she did something cool.
Man sometimes all my hopeless waiting is actually getting rewarded, I still can't believe it.
I was a massive Ovan fan since 2007 when GU/Roots has started and it was always saddening me how they never gave him an end. All those years and no OVA or anything gave his story a proper conclusion and now, finally, we got that. I would have never expected this to be honest. And we could even play him.
Same. I even used to play a shitty mod that let you play as him, easily my favorite next to Haseo in the game.
They gave Atoli exactly enough focus. I was glad they didn't go overboard with her.
Alkaid was the best girl after all.
>I just wish they didn't waste those sick designs of Kite, Haseo and Tsukasa on some random and probably non-canon mobile game.
Same. The other game had great designs too. I especially like how much the two main girls look like classical .hack Sadamoto characters irl.
>not playing as Azure Kite with Azure Orca and Azure Balmung as party members
This, me too. I remember that mod.
so can I change my class so I can get different weapons?
Man I really, really wanted to be able to switch control to a party member. Haseo's fun and all but being able to use Kite or Ovan would be excellent.
No, sadly. in //G.U. you get a bunch of different weapons but in //IMOQ you're stuck with twin blades.
so basically, sell shit I cant use
Why did they stop using Sadamoto for the art in .hack? Shit doesn't feel or look right anymore. I associate his art with the series.
Toss 'em at your party members, or trade with them if they have good shit.
Same. I don't know if Sadamoto still does anything anime related the last decade in the first place, other than that cover. I wish they would go back to these designs, with or without Sadamoto. The Link and Guilty Dragon designs and Quantum etc just don't look right.
So what are the chances of that VR project being .hack related?
Is it even still a thing?
I remember reading about that an enternity ago. And Matsuyama is well known for always and completely changing his projects and doing something completely different from what he had announced.
CC2 owns a kemono magazine IIRC
VR .hack? Is life pure and hopeful enough for it to be so? And not suck?
Liminality episodes should be watched at the end of each game disc for them to make complete sense. If you want to watch a hack anime i would advise SIGN, which takes place right before the games. Stuff like Mia and Elk will make more sense if you do so... not to mention all the easter eggs and secrets (though even the hardcore fans need a guide to find most of those)
I mostly agree that the first games have a better feel to them. With the first games i always felt that the world was an actual MMORPG. As for the battle system while most times it feels dated compared to G.U some aspects of it are far more fun. I remember going to areas 10 levels above me, running around opening several portals to aggro the monsters and fight for my fucking life. You can´t get that kind of bloodbaths on G.U where the battles are enclosed and enemies can´t receive backup.
That´s one of the satisfying things G:U has over the original games... I mean, going from hating the terror of death to being the terror of death was certainly pretty sweet
PKKing wasn´t all that bad either.
Playing with Skeith powers was kino. He had the best design too.
Corbenik had the biggest design change. From smol bean to big humanoid with a big ass cannon for an arm.
One of the things I liked about the .hack games was the news articles and forums felt legit and did a great job of fleshing out the world.
what a fucking faggot, catgirls are better
I personally always liked Sanjuro, he was a cool weeabro
Yeah, in GU I went to some high leveled area and cautiosly defeated almost too strong enemies and always went up 10 level at once. It was better managed in the old games.
Man these Team Rocket type enemy groups might be an overdone trope but it's one of the rare overdone tropes I really like.
>Im enjoying this so far
how
it is the most "nothing happens" show I have ever seen
and not in a pleasant way
I didn't know they made a show based on Infection.
the Pris sisters were really cute, thats probably why
I was talking about the game
would it be possible to hack fragment's battle system into imoq?
fragment has menus not pause the combat thanks to netplay, and the 4 shoulder buttons do separate face button shortcuts to cut down on menu use entirely.
>that fucking leet titty slut who gives you the solo mission in disk 3
>get to the boss
>about to win
>get cocky and die
I stopped playing for a long time there.
I noticed that the series allows you to transfer save data over to the next game
This isnt one of those games where Im going to be fucked out of a good ending depending on how I play right?
ending is the same but every game has an optional endgame dungeon with a weapon you cant get anywhere else
tfw 1st disc is 8h long. Niggas had to pay for one game 4 times. I'm playing also right now and i'm at mutation. It's a really good game. Also merior whats her name is broken af.
I'm disc 2 and 1st disc weapon is fucking garbage
>watched at the end
But then he misses out on the dungeons with the secret items until after they would have been useful
>1st disc weapon is fucking garbage
Not for trading
Quarantine has two endings, the standard ending and the epilogue which you get by playing through a hard as fuck dungeon with probably the hardest boss ever.
I heard you can trade Piros Diary for a good weapon in the second game.
Define "good". I don't recall it being anything particularly special.
>IMOQ is completely inaccessible outside of emulation
The character driven nature of G U is easier to sell. Haseo has a fantastic overall arc and alot of the side characters get some exposure too. There's not alot of that at all in IMOQ, but the atmosphere and general mystery of the originals is better
The world needs more of the glorious Slow Doberman!
>aloof loner/side antagonist gradually becomes less of a cunt and eventually becomes your co-ultimate bro with BlackRose
Why is this such a good arc?
So I searched up the watermark on OP's pic and found pic related poster for sale on amazon. While I was checking out, it went from 3 available to 2. Did one of you guys do the same thing?
Big spoiler, leave this thread now user if you value the story at all
doesn't matter, its a missable book entry
It was never released outside Japan right?
if the spoiler is that she gets a pair of pants, thats pretty fucked
I just wish they didn't make the game even more piss easy than it already was. I have to gimp myself to even do RENGEKIs now
Balmung is an interesting character. He has this stiff, archaic personality that makes it seem as though he's roleplaying a character, which is jarring considering that he's investigating comas and viruses and shit. But then you learn this is is literally just how the guy is. He's not playing a character, this is how he acts in day-to-day life. He's a handsome young man who's constantly asked out by girls but doesn't really "get them", rides around on motorcycles, and is so disconnected from his peers and modern youth culture that he actually uses anime otaku magazines to try and understand what's "hip and cool" these days "with the young people". He's a boomer in a zoomer's body.
mon amiiiii
meow oui
Some of the Phantom designs were pretty cool, though.
