Honestly, the way Gnosticism wraps back around to having an even Greater God who is the actual 'God' (the being usually refered to as God being the Demiurge and more comparable to 'The Devil', the Deciever, AKA 'The God of this World) and in many/most sects the true entity who sent/incarnated Jesus Christ (but is also Lucifer... kinda) really makes it feel like it's somehow crawling up it's own ass just so it can come out standing upright again.
In fact, aside from really pointless name switches it appears as if the only significant difference is that they do away with the concept of Satan ever truly 'rebelling' against their Creator and instead the 'God of this World' is not even really aware of their wrongdoing or as some like
suggest, might not even be fucking capable of comprehending their own individuality, or God, or existence at all (ie: Azathoth.)
So, all we get is, a lot of pointless terminology shifting (while still retaining the essential core dynamics of Monotheism), and a really hacked in import of eastern mystical Dualism, but without ascribing to 'le balance' meme but instead just saying 'physical existence=bad=weakness.'
Also, Elder Scrolls Monomyth is basically inverted gnosticism, but where the Demiurge was slain, existence continues regardless, and the 'enlightened ones' are actually Elven supremacist nihilists who are really hoping that Humans stop existing entirely once they can finally unmount all the reality anchors/towers and all the Elves get to ascend as pure beings of chaotic free spirit once again.
