Assuming you have good micro, the bis pet is this nigga right here. For pvp, the most important attributes a minion must have are a maximum 4/4 speed stat (this is nearly mandatory), favourable attributes (being super effect against eyes is very valuable, shields and gates less so), a good limit break, and a low cost (so you can spam more of them)
Coeurl kittens have all of the above, but they're countered by baby bats, who are in turn countered by wind-up kojin (who are countered by coeurl kittens). Between them these are the 3 s-tier minions for pvp with ideal stats for their purposes.

Skillchain potency is irrelevant, to maximize DPS DRG has to stick to its target like glue and that's a no no for any serious fight. Jumps are shit. Even with 15% extra damage DRG wasn't too great, without it no amount of fine-tuning could undumpster it.

The Damage Down is fucking brutal. It lasts for a full minute and absolutely murders your damage.

I've seen people claiming this since ARR. Never happens. Always a way around having to tank.

Freeze, Jugulate, Synestry and Fluid Aura are fucking useless in almost all scenarios and I'm glad to see them gone desu

I don't think they should remove Dark Arts, they just need to rework it to make it interesting. As a concept it's good, the DRK sacrifices his MP to empower his skills, but they made it boring by having the only real buff be extra damage, and forcing you to use it constantly.

Who knows. DRK is obviously gonna end up with severe reworks if for no other reason than the removal of TP.

I think you need to check how much potency DRG actually loses from missing its positionals.

Realistically you're either directly in front of a monster (holding aggro somehow?) or actively moving to the wrong side of the thing if you're missing both WT and F&C. For most instances it's more likely you're hitting WT but missing F&C since you're pointing at the monster's backside.
His math is right, 40 potency per missed finisher + 2 finishers (3 if Chaos Thrust skillchain). The actual application requires an extremely stupid DRG though.

40 per positional, which is 120 total if you're off position for a chaos thrust combo and 80 if you're off position for a full thrust combo. Then a possible additional 40 if you have to refresh heavy thrust while forced off as well. Meanwhile SAM no only has a single 60 potency positional, but they also can possibly have a free two GCD buffer if they don't have their Yukikaze sen yet and are forced off position.

Or maybe you're doing real content where melee are very often forced off positionals like Ultimate content.

okay so your dragon's blood is up, you do a combo, now you get wheeling thrust, you go behind the target, and cast wheeling thrust. then you do another combo, and then you get fang and claw, and you do that from the flank.

It also meant the game had to be absurdly grindy or it would lose its entire playerbase quickly. That kind of model isn't sustainable in the modern era where people have free options if they want a grinding game.

Because it is recycled. If you're having to go back and do that shitty old content for anything other than the original reason people did it in the first place, then it is recycled shit. That's nothing like FFXI's old content.

That doesn't change the fact that FFXIV won't be sustainable as long as FFXI was. FFXIV's lifetime will be much shorter once the content slows down, as that is what people want and expect. When they're getting even less content than they are now, they won't be interested in staying around. Just because times were different and people expectations of MMO's has changed, doesn't change this fact.

XIV will have a continuous stream of players going through the game, and possibly people running old content synced, after it "dies", unlike XI which will have a similar number of vets continuing to grind away at it after it "dies" with a trickle of new players.

FFXI was released in 2002, its last major content update was 2015

FFXIV was released in 2010, and Shadowbringers isn't going to be the final expansion unless they screw the pooch so hard they go into negative subscribers, so we're looking at at least new content until the next expansion, which should go into 2023. All it needs is two more expansions after ShB to be content-supported as long as XI was.
