4U is top for me even though I have the most time in FU. I don't care about mounting but it's hard to go back to no ledge attacks and slow movement (especially with the egg quests). The added movement options feel integral to MH now instead of the fun but flawed gimmick of underwater combat. I don't need areas to be overly vertical either, fast climbing and ledge attacks work just as well in Generations on the older maps.

I played 3U, and a bit of 4U, but I've definitely put the most time into World. I tried the demo for GU on Switch, but going back to that feel left me wanting. I don't know what, I feel like it's the way your character moves in the older games, it feels more rigid in a way I'm not sure I like. Maybe I need to play it more.

Older MH games were more unforgiving about item-usage and equipment skills, all armor sets generally had one or more negative traits to them compared to World only conferring positives. Couldn't move when using potions or food and such.

People overreact about World constantly and act like it's the death of the series since the core fanbase is generally hyper-autists that want every game to be a repeat of 3U worse yet, the ones that want every MH to be a repeat of Freedom Unite, or Dark Souls hangers-on that were attracted to the game because they heard it was difficult. World's more "accessible" in the sense that it's easier until you hit the much tougher monsters like the first tiers of tempered, where difficulty generally evens out to the complete horseshit that's more prevalent in the older games.

4U would have been peak MH if it wasn't for mounting and apex gimmick.

You can sum up that video as intrinsic motivation vs extrinsic motivation. One is much more popular and can be manipulated as a developer, the other requires a design structure that people of the other type can identify with.
Once you've really spent time doing something for intrinsic reasons it's hard to stay enthusiastic about things engineered to produce motivation through extrinsic means. That's why the games you see played for thousands or tens of thousands of hours are generally extremely technical. The Quakes, Broodwars, Tekkens, whatever.

World has done a lot of things to make the player feel good about their actions, even when they play like imbeciles. Nothing in World really forces you to learn 'monster hunter fundamentals' so to speak. You can bulldoze your way through everything if you're the stubborn time. As a byproduct of that, you'll never get the same satisfaction that came from the walls players had in the older titles.

Everything takes longer in classic MH, which can be a positive or negative. You feel like you earn everything that much more since fights generally take a bit longer and you take just as much (if not more) damage per hit so you can't chance your way through fights or panic and call in support. The same applies for crafting gear and items to bring along in hunts, you'll need to prepare beforehand and do some gathering. I found it disappointing that in World you could build a full armor set after 2-3 kills of a new monster. Like I said it can be seen as a negative; there's a reason this stuff was all changed for accessibility. If you enjoy the MH part of MHW then the classic series is a more exaggerated form of it.

I don't understand this, transmog prompted me to hunt more things to experiment with armor designs.

Watch any random streaming the game. You'll see them alternating mantles and sprinting around while healing since positioning doesn't matter anymore other than gimmick oneshot tools. You cannot make an encounter in MHW that reinforces the importance of positioning that the older games had because damage essentially doesn't matter. The player rotates too quickly, accelerates too quickly, has infinite consumables and can consume items on the move in between their invincibility cooldowns.
You can play the game using Monster Hunter fundamentals, and it does reward you for doing so through faster kill times, but the game no longer forces it on the players to learn that style of play.

World had a great concept but a terrible execution. If you're going to make a "Living, breathing world" You can't just make the maps slightly larger than the older maps and then plop 3 monsters in and call it a day. World's concept could only be properly executed if it was in an open-world where you truly couldn't predict how hunts were going to go or what monsters were going to show up. World felt like it wanted to go in a completely different direction but they weren't allowed to deviate from the formula too much. Also the monsters themselves just were not unique enough to sell me on this being the "New World." 4's monsters felt more alien and weird than the new monsters in World which were mostly all just either giant lizards and fucking dragons.

I have no idea how it is in WoW, but it's pants on head retarded on Gen. First you have to unlock the feature on G-rank, then you have to combine your armor for looks with your actual armor into one, and although you can separate both pieces with some g-rank coins you can't really swap in and out quick and easily, you have to jump through many menus and shit.

Meanwhile on something like Terraria I just drag and drop whatever I want into either slot and have my fashion in 2 seconds.

No monster is hard in Multiplayer when you have at least 1-2 other players geared up and who know the fight so that's irrelevant conditionals to your argument in the first place.
You still have to learn the patterns, and you still have to git gud on the walls by figuring out when its safe to disengage and reengage or be stuck there forever because people aren't going to keep carrying you to the finish line or put up with your shit for too much longer by that point.

I never said I was good at all; I just know the online demographic of both styles of game. The guy is pretending the games never had shit like this before when it did, but people didn't put up with it as much as they do in World because World is by far more accessible and friendly to learning both offline and online

I miss turn lobbies. That's honestly my main complaint with World. I know it gets memed but the sense of community went down the toilet with such a seemingly small change. I started with MHW (I never had a Nintendo console to play MonHun but wanted to for a long, long time). GF got a Switch soon after, and I got MHGU. Never touched MHW after, although I put 120 hours in it. Probably have 200 hours in MHGU now. Took a break for a while halfway in G-rank, but goddamned this game is so much better.

Because the contrarians dislike change. It's definitely the best foundation for MonHun, and I'm glad they finally have it in this position. Soulless means fuck all now because it's an empty criticism, but the game is definitely flawed. Optimistic about what they do in the future with this as a baseline however.

I think people forgot that we have always gotten the Ultimate editions of the game which is loaded with content, other than Generations. MHW is the base version so this is expected. They better work on weapon and armor designs for Iceborne though shit is so bland and boring.

MHX/XX really was the most soulless game. It was the biggest copy and paste, all the new shit was fairly shit with a few exceptions, and Trifags love to dismiss shit like that by going "B-BUH ITS A CELEBRATION OF THE SERIES" and I'd say, for a "celebration of the series" they sure did a shit job at making it a good celebration. All the village hubs felt tacked on, with their only redeeming qualities being the music. Also fuck the fact they didn't bother adding the gathering halls for each village.

How is it? I tried a few weeks ago and the game would crawl in a few spots of dundorma and monster roars.

3U on the Wii U was developed longer and with console in mind, while the Switch version of GU is just the 3DS assets in higher resolution, so it actually looks worse...but not too much.
The fact that they didn't even bother unlocking the fps to 60 on top of all this when you are not playing with 3DS players is just lazy as fuck.

"classic" really outlived their welcome, and it was high time capcom made the jump with a normal sequel like World. Classic games were basically asset flips going back to the fucking PS2 game, it's amazing it survived in that mess of a shape for so long.

The real problem with World is two-fold
1) Anything that isn't Arch-Tempered is baby shit easy
2) 4-player quests can be done in less than 5 fucking minutes because of Capcom once again didn't scale up the monsters' health depending on the number of players
Now granted these aren't unique to World itself, but they still bring down the lasting appeal even for longtime players. Doesn't help that for World they went with the trickle-down content updates so between major updates there's just long periods where people straight up aren't playing the game at all.
