Soldier 76 is a pretty shitty example because Blizzard doesn't know how to keep to good characters these days (or in this case, if their game is doing bad just throw the gay card onto a random character)
Meanwhile Clementine from The Walking Dead is fine and (if you chose the gay relationship over the based black teen) actually feels naturally written.
That may not be the best example but it's the only one I can think of off the top of my head.
Point is, if you just throw it out there like any other character trait, it's gonna be shit.

It's fine as long as its not the sole basis for the characters identity. Honestly video game character sexuality shouldn't be something we need to know unless the character is gonna sex or some kind of relationship in the game.

I've got no problems with that either, I know some very masculine gay dudes, more "normal" acting gay characters is actually good to deconstruct some stereotypes. When I say Soldier: 76 feels like pandering, I have the past history of California-based studios (like Blizzard) in my mind.

l don't mind that character being gay, but you just know they made the character gay due virtue signaling (or maybe to tease conservatives) more than any other reason.
