>DIGITAL GAMES BAD
DIGITAL GAMES BAD
Digital games that you don't actually own are bad
>house burns down
>get compensated for your entire game library with your insurance
>steam closes down
>lose access to all your games
HMMMMMM
Digital games are only good if you're a pirate, just imagining paying for nothing is a good laugh
>""""digital games""""
ok.
>steam closes down
>lose access to all your games
That's not the case though.
who fucking cares, implying you cant play literally any old game on an emulator literally for 100% free
The thing is. We don't know exactly what will go on if that comes to be. Its more safe to say that whatever you have downloaded you can continue to play but the rest of it you won't be able to install anymore since the servers will be shut down. On the other hand if your physical collection burns down, you at least get compensated to be able to buy it all back.
emulation unironically feels soulless. i feel less inclined to play a game when i'm just firing up some program instead of putting it into my console as it was meant to be played.
>aka i didnt pay 500 bucks for earthbound
You'll get over that.
>want to play boardgames like bood bowl
>friends only want autistic farming optimization games that look like brown and beige nightmare with childrens book artwork
When Gabe dies in 10-15 years, Microsoft will buy steam.
Gaben is too fat to be living past the age of 70.
>steam closes down
It's more likely that your insurance company defaults
when prey and alan wake disappeared from steam you could still download them if you had bought em
While I don't prefer digital this will most likely never happen
Good luck proving what you had and what it was worth. Generally for insurance they want a record of what you had with pictures for proof and often times they send an adjuster out depending on what it is before they'll even guarantee it. And that's before all you're shit goes up in flames.
>what is purchase tracking from your bank for 500 Alex?
I hope Steam crashes and burns off into the aether, forgotten forever.
>That's not the case though.
uninstall steam
now try to launch any of your games, humor me
>Hoarder has to face reality
good
I like buying digital games but I always want publishers to print physical copies with the actual game on the disc/cart. So at least it will still be playable in the future
>have CIB copy of Earthbound
>hundreds of other rare games
>insurance: we'll give you $2000 for it
>haggle up to $2500 after months of collecting receipts and proof
yeah unless you've been immaculate with your records and have managed to keep them somehow through the fire, I think the adjuster is still gonna fuck you.
just don't hoard things. they don't actually make you any happier.
A collection like that wouldn't be made overnight and I'm sure a decent bit of it was paid in cash.
End of the day he isn't getting replacement value for what he had.
Digital is only acceptable if it's a DRM free copy like GOG or you pirated a DRM free copy otherwise you've paid full price for a rental.
There are many games that work without steam as long as they don't make use of any steam features. The notion of "any" of your games won't work is going a little too far. Hotline Miami is an example of a game that can played outside of steam without a crack. You will lose a majority though, assuming you play anything other than indie shit or 15 year old games.
steam has gone on record stating if it ever shuts down you will still be able to access any games you'd bought.
Now that I think about it more, Nuclear Throne can be played without steam as well. So pretty much any GameMaker game that doesn't make use of an exteral steamworks wrapper will work I'm assuming.
>believing in JEWsurances
lmao
>break your PS4
>now try to play on it!
>mfw I have the same collection in my hard drives
>for the price of a few hard drives
I know this thread is full of hardcore retards and shitposters but this is for anyone with a physical collection (I mean an actual collection, not just one shelf and some anime toys)
Get your collection insured.
You can get it privately evaluated by any number of companies, and yes they do pay out for this kind of thing.
Yes, there will be a monthly premium for this, but for the most part you can combine it with your existing home contents insurance and save a bit of cash (as opposed to just having a separate policy)
I have a large record collection, and my insurance is more than happy to evaluate and cover it.
Likewise for games, it's no different.
How do I know this?
Because I'm an adult.
I'm not even going to lurk this thread for replies, I hope someone looks into this information and that it helps.
As always, fuck you Yea Forums
>file claim
>insurance makes up stupid reason why that specific circumstance isn't covered
>meanwhile another guy burns down his house on purpose and collects twice what the house was worth
Yeah, great idea.
>Not reading the fine print and shopping around for appropriate cover
good thing I'm not a burger and don't live in an easily burnable cardboard/plywood house.
apparently his labo set caught on fire.
go figure
This, as soon as Gabe is out Microsoft will buy Valve
