Someone mentioned in a previous thread about the Xbox SAD that Microsoft is not forcing them to buy the SAD, while that may be true for now. It's certainly a forshadowing of Microsoft's intentions. They will inevitably force their customers to buy all digital games from their store, and basically tie them to their Gamepass subcription service, in order to compete with Google and Sony. They think game streaming is the next step, so the SAD is an indication of their direction probably for the next gen. Just my guess

Just as an example, you can buy a pre-owned copy of Halo 3 (which runs on the Xbox One with backwards compatibility) for just 50p ($0.65 USD), while it costs £15 ($19.50 USD) to download it from Microsoft.

So basically you pay THIRTY TIMES the cost if you get the download, versus the physical version.

That's why physical is better. Not to mention that the normal console can play Ultra HD Blu Rays (which me and my family already have quite a few of). And also even for brand new games, the disc on Amazon is almost always cheaper than the download from Microsoft, and sometimes by significant amounts.

Downloading would only make sense if the games were cheaper than physical games. But they're literally more expensive than physical games. And they're ABSURDLY more expensive when it comes to older games. So it makes no sense whatsoever.

the sata port for the disc drive and even the eject button can still be found inside the machine with a huge open space inside where the disc drive used to be, they literally removed the thing and printed a new case without the disc sleeve and called it a day

it probably depends on whether it's actually hooked up or not. windows is like that too. if the network port is just dead it will skip it, but if you boot with a live cable that has no connectivity past the local gateway, it will wait for a timeout
