>oh hey cool >british doctor so they called him watson >nice reference >they show some stupid steampunk detective >no... >MY NAME IS THE GREAT DETECTIVE SHERLOCK HOLMES >sucks dick at any investigating >read my strand magazine stories!
fuck off this isn't anything like sherlock holmes at all if it doesn't turn out to be some random fanboy I'm going to be mad as fuck
Nope, he's real and it's played entirely straight, Holmes is a useless piece of retarded shit and Watson is his little girl sidekick, and he spends the whole game getting dunked on by superior nipponese investigator samurai whose logic is folded 10 million times.
Christopher Evans
I thought that his shenanigans were pretty amusing since he's actually kind of an asshole.
Also, maybe it was just me, but most of the time he said stupid shit in his deductions, it felt more like he already knew what the fuck was going on but he was letting you piece it all together. Felt kind of like hobo Phoenix in AJ but without taking the spotlight from the MC when it matters.
Connor Lopez
I'm 100% sure he's literally pretending to be retarded my man. There times where his deduction feels like he's just goofing around to see if you can solve it. Especially when you see the rare moment when he's Serious
Ian Foster
>Watson is his little girl sidekick Actually the little girl is Watson's daughter, the actual W dies in the first case of the british court.
Gabriel Ramirez
>unironically "he's just pretending to be retarded" GOD DAMNED
that's not the only flaw with him holmes would never be as flashy as him or tell people to read his stories, since he even explicitly stated the more people know about him the harder his job gets
Benjamin Torres
I only finished the second case, but indeed Holmes completely controlled the end of the case, which indeed made me think 'he was only pretending to be retarded.' I was OK with vain goofy retard Holmes, but how cool and in control he was at the end blew me up a bit.
Joseph Sanders
When I first saw Holmes in the trailers I assumed he would be a massive faggot but he subverted my expectations. He makes DGS better than it should be.
David Campbell
It's a fucking anime, dude. Of course there will be be some character assassination in the nipponisation. Though I think it's a big part in why the game was not released in the west. On another subject, I really like the game. It makes me feel like the first trilogy all over again, without the constant self references and lack of character development of the latter games.
Luis Foster
One thing I dislike in DGS is how underwhelming the villains are.
It wasn't released in the west because it's very Japanese and casually racist due to the themes and time period.
Leo Peterson
I liked Megundal but I have not done the last case yet.
Levi Campbell
that's why I was disappointed from the moment it was revealed he was supposed to be sherlock holmes
Landon Robinson
>It wasn't released in the west because it's very Japanese I'll admit it would be hard to americanize it with just a few hamburgers, but Phoenyx Wright's localization was already pretty retarded.
>and casually racist due to the themes and time period. Isn't it more of a satire of prejudice and racism in that time period? Even if not, this could easily be changed during localization, so I don't think it's the main problem.
Nathaniel Hughes
Well it helps that there’s only 3 villains since Cases 2 and 4 didn’t really have them. Case 1 lady just stops the trial like a bitch (DGS2 pls), Megundal was top tier but dies, and the last villain was better than anyone in DD or SOJ but isn’t in a good enough case.
James Clark
Is there a working 3DS emulator that can play DGS?
Eli Reyes
Yes, the usual one. It will be unplayable on toasters, though.
Jacob Sanchez
in the great ace attorney threads, people say you could run it on citra
Christian Robinson
It's working fine in courtroom but ny fps dropped to like 50% during any investigation scene with 3d background
Jonathan Reed
It felt like the game was ensuring that I'd never have to think until the very final segment, and at that point I was real bored.
Samuel Powell
He's not retarded, just extremely eccentric. What other man gets shot in the kidney, sneaks out of the hospital to deliver evidence and then just keels over on the podium?
Why did nobody warn me that playing DGS1 is stupid in a world where 2 isn't translated and half the shit remains unresolved.
Aaron Barnes
DGS1 has repeatedly been called a sequel bait. It's your fault for not getting what it means.
Charles Sullivan
Because that detail is all over the internet.
Zachary Morris
>Still has the super observational skills >Manages to make a whole string of deductions that Naruhododo wouldnt be able to do by himself and has the autority to have people listen to him and care for his opinion >1/3 of his deductions are correct, the other 2/3 are so over the wall stupid is hard to tell he is not merely pretending Holmes is an okay dude. Iris on the other hand is just waaaay too much of a child prodigy. She is 10 years old, has a medical doctorate, is the writer for Holmes stories(actually just transcribes her father's documents into a novel format, but still) and is a genius inventor? Get the fuck outta here.
Ryan Davis
>detective that supposedly investigates everything didn't notice a huge ass bloodstain on a beefplate >says supreme court isnt political and keeps brit suspect in court >literally dabs on your evidence twice right in front of everyone >everyone just waives it off even if it was obviously intentional >game has cameras, no photos of the crime scene to compare with if it has been tampered. >jurors supposed decisions have no weight as they can change their stance every two seconds or so
The characters are fine, but every case has been fucking stupid so far. The other games had moments like this but it was somehow with reason in the setting, and gumshoe is kind of stupid in the first place.
I really want to like this game. I dig the music. But the cases, it's just unbearable at times.
Grayson Clark
>>game has cameras, no photos of the crime scene to compare with if it has been tampered. The way I see it, they just started as an entertainment device instead of a tool used for investigations, which is stupid, I know, but pretty much everyone but Sherlock treat them as toys, and only Sherlock has the automatic types of cameras. Also, yeah, Jezail´s actions in court should have done more to damage the relationship between Japan and England than whatever the fuck Naruhodo may have done, were the japanese just that big of a doormat like Auchi that they would let british people do whatever the fuck they wanted in the court with no consequence?
James Gray
it was a different time
Colton Collins
When I think about it, cases 1-3 are all training cases.
Case 1 is court basics. Case 2 is investigation training, with new mechanic introduction. Case 3 is for teaching you about the Closing Argument.
I actually do enjoy the game, all things considered. Just a shame we gotta wait so long for the sequel.
Michael Jones
I miss the long cases in AA1. You had 3 full days for investigations and court in the 4th and final case. They actually felt like large cases befitting of final cases. Most of the recent games only had 2 days at most in their final cases. DGS only had ONE day for fucks sake, it's too short.
Kevin Foster
>Just recently beat Apollo Justice >Realized right now that Kristoph's motivations never get explained
Unless I'm forgetting something, is there a reason why Kristoph sabotaged Phoenix? Or am I just supposed to believe he's super wacky and evil because black psyche locks and the skull in his hand ecksdee?
Henry Wright
>Case 5 >Naruhodo starts freaking out about the blood test being performed on Megundal's coat, cause it only reveals presence of blood not identity >Doesn't think to rebut any accusation with prove the blood on the coat was spilt during Hatch's murder, instead of Mortar's >Doesn't also think to confirm whether Gina had changed her clothes since the night of the crime, as Iris's blood smoke thing didn't reveal any traces on Gina's shirt in the gaol
He's just incredibly pissed that Phoenix stole his chance of defending Zak Gramarye, because it's an incredibly high profile case that could add to his reputation. The reason for the attorney change was over a stupid poker game too, so Kristoph was double pissed.
Elijah Lee
Son of a bitch. This thread got my hopes up that it'd been localized.
Ian Smith
user... it's fully playable in English now, it got a fan translation
Lucas Lewis
> Iris's blood smoke thing didn't reveal any traces on Gina's shirt in the gaol It didn't? What? I am pretty sure it did.
Joseph Clark
I can't remember it showing traces anywhere but on Megundal's coat. It's likely that I'm remembering it incorrectly, and in the end it doesn't matter because things get resolved anyway.
Gavin Sanders
There isn't a single case past AA1 that takes a full three days. I always found that strange.
Charles Rogers
>jurors supposed decisions have no weight as they can change their stance every two seconds or so The jury thing feels really odd. The introduction to it had me shitting my pants as I kept pressing and they kept throwing out guilty. I had no idea what was going to happen until I realized they can arbitrarily say whatever they want.
Justin Long
They have hinted that 2's translation is pretty far along, so hopefully it'll be out relatively soon.
Alexander Clark
there wasn't a android and iphone version with English subtitles or something?
Wyatt Rogers
That's also the fan translation.
Dylan Cooper
This truly is the Dark Age of Law.
Benjamin Sanchez
Admittedly, they were too long, what I find even weirder is that they alternate how the penalty system works AA1 you get 5 chances, AA2-5(didnt play 6) you get a life meter, DGS you get 5 chances again.
>this isn't anything like sherlock holmes at all DGS Holmes is a much closer interpretation of the original character than most modern takes, which frequently turn him into a straightforwardly omniscient demigod. Holmes was extremely eccentric in the source. >sucks dick at any investigating He figures out the problems with case 2's "tripped on a cat" theory long before Ryuunosuke does.
Charles Bennett
This is just rule 63 MHW Handler.
Easton Myers
I remember someone else (you?) posting this before. I've never read any of the originals and only know of Holmes through his constant reimaginings, Maybe I'll go ahead and give them a go.
