MK9 was trash because the input bug made blocking or attacking low inconsistent, player 1 priority, frame drops, and 3D hitboxes that weren't normalized and allowed for weird inconsistencies online and offline
MKX was better, but still suffered because of the priority again, frame drops, and bugs that made characters drop shit on certain parts of the stages.
MK11 actually is polished and doesn't have the major problems of 9 or X atm and really looks like they fixed the meta which I didn't mention because it's a taste, but the majority of hardcore fans criticized.

I think that's the point he's trying to make. Vidya is more than just one element and to value a single one over another is the mindest of an absolute child. Gameplay is important but so are other factors like soundtrack (Megaman) art direction (Dark Souls) and so on.
