For the love of God, if you value your sanity, don't fucking fly that thing. It could barely climb, can't turn nor roll for shit and everything in its br will outrun it in its stock performance. Not to mention if you get hit even by 7.7mm you will be set on fire and burnt to your death. FYI not even paper plane like zeroes burns as well as that wood coffin of a plane. You're better off flying J2M or ki-84, I guarantee you that

The 2nd ki-84 with 4x20mm is the one with optimal armament for the br, but true, Ho-5 cannons suck balls big time. The type 99 cannon on Reppu and Raiden is far better

modern planes are more like "battle station mobile platform" flying got very little to do with modern combat it's about how well you operate radar, quite boring premise for games if you ask me

Generally you're a sitting duck when fighting Germans as they actually bother climbing than your Russian teams so you better be good at defensive flying and make them bleed altitude. Zeroes laugh at you as you try to out turn them so go BnZ. Just be careful as they can follow you on the reclimb for a while so react accordingly. Most planes can keep up with you on a dive so pray they break off near your teammates. Those cannons hit like a truck so shoot close unless you're confident with 400+ meter shots. Also the engine cooks very fast. Try conserving WEP on maneuvers only.

I do this but when I miss the enemy turns and comes after me, then it turns into "going in circles until I fuck up and get shot down or stall". How to avoid this?
I had a dogfight in Sim Battles that was literally five minutes of constantly looping around each other. My plane turned fast enough that I could stay on the inside but I couldn't hit him at any point.

surprisingly pretty good at leading targets at any distance, but suck so much at maneuvering shot down only 2 in couple hours

remember what it is flatter speed, ki43 got it pretty high around 700 I think
so don't forget to look at speed, in that class not many planes can fly that fast
you you drop on someone, make a few shots, and instantly go 60 degrees upward, not 80 or 90, you will lose too much momentum, it's different for each plane
