Apex killed fortnite for the better part of 2 weeks, and the sponsorships only extended to 40 hours (which was done week 1), but because it didn't get any FUCKING UPDATES and fortnite did, they lost all their streamers.
lawbreakers similarly had 0 updates. It had a host of other issues, don't get me wrong, but sponsoring streamers isn't anything new or out of the ordinary, and it does significantly help your game. It helped fallout 76 to a point it was profitable enough for them to spend resources fixing it, after that ninja/logic/rick and morty stream.
