Yeah, since Ultimate was announced at least. I didn't really think about Smash between the time I beat P5 when it released and the Inkling trailer. Joker was definitely my most wanted once Smash was on my mind though. I never thought it would happen at all.

It's just such a lazy design. Same gauge as Cloud and Mac, his Persona does nothing that would be interesting for a Persona to do. And we didnt even get good buffs and nerfs for salt threads.

He turns tilts and aerials into smash attacks and it's just not a good time. I understand it's still just Hour 3, but I'm really hoping there's some trick to beating him that I'm just not seeing here, because goddamn he's unfun to fight.

gun is borderline clunky to use, especially the different stunts. for people without the update yet, you have to press and hold B and then either jump or tilt left/right. to do the spinning one in midair, it's hold b and then hold up while you're up high enough. kirby also gets all of these.

Every Persona protag has character, though, it's just less obvious than the others. Like how Joker has a bunch of snarky asshole responses for most situations while Door-kun usually has gloomy shit, and Yu is Chad Thundercock.

Nah he's light as a feather and none of his attacks come out quickly, they all have this weird jilted animation where he can get stuffed by basically anything. The only saving grace is how good the coverage on Eiha is so he can screen off people while he tries to build Arsene, it's a better version of Lucas' PK Fire.

Honestly Mobus is fine, it's Lindbeck I can't stand. She seems like a nice enough person but she is actually horrible as Futaba. Literally doesn't even make the slightest effort to replicate Aoi's delivery.
The rest of the cast suck too but they really botched my girl.

It was made to be used in camping, not actual fighting. If you use it, the curse damage is suppose to add up overtime, you don't actually use it like you would a projectile used to set up a combo.

I think he's fun overall. Base form is on the weak side but still racks up damage and does hit and run well, and Persona form gets ridiculous kill power. I wish Arsene did a little bit more but I still like him as he is, maybe the gun could use a bit of a buff.

how do you even test out a character in this game? when i pick up a new character in tekken or street fighter, i set the cpu to auto guard to see which strings a natural combos, see what their overheads are, see what the fastest and safest lows are, see what combos are guaranteed off of which hits, see what i can get off counter hits. shit like that.

Melee Falco's gun is pretty laggy casually, everyone's just optimized around it

The downward air version seems like it could open opponents up, but right now it just seems like it's too slow to play offensively with and it only seems like a way to retreat.

I also kinda wish that the grappling hook had a bigger hitbox for grabbing enemies, but I'm willing to bet that there are gonna be some ridiculous combo setups that use it that I'm not aware of yet that make the risk worth it. I do really like how you have to play a bit risky to activate Arsene rather than being rewarded for playing completely defensively until "go time" activates, like Cloud gets.

Overall he's pretty fun, but I don't see myself maining him.

You can also do B + Side B in the air to do back/forward dodges while shooting. If you land during the dodge but before the second shot, you do a little pseudo wavedash, but it's pretty unreliable. Also, is there any way to cancel his aerial gunslinger shit? Or does he just keep going and going? I keep feeling like you can use it to keep pressure up coming back to the stage but I always ending flailing around like a tard into the abyss.

You can get 2 air dodges with Joker.

He has his regular air dodge. But then also a pseudo air dodge when using his gun and a direction. He can do both without getting hit.

Never played Persona, but I don't see how he could have any less personality than a lot of the cast.

Now that I've seen what they've done with the stage and the tracks from the other games I don't mind Mementos

I was hoping for a Velvet Room stage, but I'm fine with how Mementos turned out. It's a bit busy on the eyes, though.

Pretty much all his tilts can combo. His projectile game relies a lot on side b. The guns aren’t good for any prolonged spacing/campy sessions, but u can surprise people with them especially edgeguarding. I have my jump set to y as well so I can start with neutral special and immediately jump for a downward gun shot. Can trip people up on the edge. Also Arsene just makes everything better. Don’t really have to change up your play style when he’s out but you can rush people down hard his combo game is pretty good overall. Tether grab for recovery and Arsene recovery are super reliable. His off stage and edge guard game is super good so capitalize on that too. Updated mains btw.

Meh, I feel even with his Arsen his kill potential is too low, and has a lot issues with his lack of range. His recovery is also too predictable and he loos easy to gimp and meteor. I see him in the lower part of high tier or the higher spectrum of low tier.

How the fuck do you wait out Arsene against a good Joker? His fucking Smash attack comes out frame 10, has the range of 2 and 3/4th Sheiks, and deals more damage and knockback than DORYAH. Plus, it's pretty much unpunishable without a perfect parry, since the shield stun you get for blocking it is enough for him to follow up with a tilt before you can act out of shield.

What's more feasible to use for recovery? I'd assume there's not many situations where using both would work.

What the fuck? Joker's Smash attacks are all extremely average and have notably short range, even with Arsen it's barely any more of a disjoint than something like Mario.

U-air is god damn amazing, and he's so fast that he's almost impossible to punish for anyone who doesn't have giga range and speed. I found out the hard way that it's got only slightly less range than DORYAH. No one without a noticeable disjoint is going to be able to outrange it. Since he's so fast, it's really easy to space as him. It's like playing against a Pit with actual air speed.

Arsene doesn't charge automatically, he has to get hit.

You can charge Arden’s at half speed by dealing damage too

Arsene lasts for like 25 seconds. It's easier to wait out limit or KO punch. Seriously, he's almost as good as Smash 4 Sheik. He can even carry you off-stage with f-air and get back from the pits of hell.

The only weakness I've seen of his thus far is that his Arsene up-b is easy to punish if he's recovering from a bad angle. It's like Rosalina's up-b with some i-frames. Otherwise, it's almost impossible to kill him because he's so goddamned fast. I don't know exactly how fast he is yet, but he definitely feels like he's around Roy/Chrom speed.

It's more about how he has multiple options to get close to the ledge. When he's knocked far, or knocked far without a midair jump these can both be useful.

right now hes solid. he will get better once his combo game is explored more. Hes not a character an average scrub can faceroll with however.

So far just exploring combos. First hit fair leads into a couple different 40% combos even without his persona.

Jokers gun is only useless in the sense that you shouldn't really use it like you're using Falco or Fox's blasters, I like to use it just to switch things up and fuck with my opponent when they're trying to set up for a combo and get an opening.

Mishima sees himself as some sort of ally of justice without understand the process behind which justice is maintained. His initial motivation behind the Phantom Thieves website wasn't to "punish evil" it was to become popular even if that popularity was anonymous (he probably realized that this was the only way to become popular).
When cornered, he doesn't muster up his own courage and confront the situation, he waves around the Phantom Thieves like a toy sword. Joker's reaction to this is "not your personal army faggot" to a T. Anyone with a WordPress could've done what Mishima did and been just as helpful to the Phantom Thieves, and probably been a better person too.

Joker is so easily gimped when he doesn’t have Arsene. Gun fucking sucks. Grappling hook had potential to be cool but not being able to angle it plus small hitbox makes it worthless offensively/in combos. Gun fucking sucks. Rebellion Gaurd has too much endlag and too little damage/knockback for still taking half damage of an attack. Eiagaon is great. Normals are kinda stubby, but pretty fast. He’s weirdly small. Gun fucking sucks. Gun FUCKING sucks.

Overall he’s pretty cool and I’m glad he’s in the game, but I won’t be playing him.

I don’t think he’s a bad person, just misguided. He’s felt ignored and worthless his entire life, and when he became part of something bigger than himself, it went to his head because he’s immature and insecure. Could happen to literally anyone. During the course of his S-Link, it didn’t feel like the intention was to detest him, but sympathize with him and put him on the right path, At least, that’s how it was for me. Mishima’s story is a tragedy, if anything.

Downward Aerial Gun is pretty useful, I end up using it a lot. Didn't realize I could do it from the ground either by trying to jump during the first shot. Upward Aerial gun seems weird and the fact you can't cancel it. Seems ok otherwise. Took me a bit to realize I could just hold down the button to do the other shots instead of tapping it at specific times. I wish the FES version of Mass Destruction was in there too.

3: People will tell you to play P3FES, but be wary, you can't control all your party members (just in case you care). There is a mod to be able to control all party members on PC. P3P let's you control the entire party, which makes the game a bit easier and the whole game is just a visual novel outside of Tartarus, which is a dungeon and the only part you can physically control the player outside of battles. Just choose whichever one you prefer. Personally, I did not like 3 as much as 4 or 5.

4: There is no reason to get vanilla. Play Golden.

He's alright. Mid tier at best.

Arsene puts him higher, but you're not gonna be able to get him as consistently as Cloud gets limit without taking serious risks, and that means a lot of opportunities for your opponent to read you and fuck you up. Like others have said, he's mostly a weirder but better Sheik.

Grapple Hook is weird, but I like that you don't go into freefall after using it. Eiha is solid. Rebel's Guard will probably get you an asskicking against anyone who consistently reads you.

I'm probably one of the few people who actually likes the Gun, though I will admit it feels clunky as shit. The rainstorm and spin are situationally useful and fun as fuck to throw out and really solid for edgeguarding, the spin can fuck you up easily though if you go too deep offstage. All in all, he feels great to play, and that's what really matters, but I can see him getting high mid-tier, MAYBE low high-tier at the very best if people figure out some crazy tech with him. He's got a lot of stuff, I'm sure someone will find a way to break him.

Raining Bullets is the one thing that is keeping me interested, because I'm not into the Sheik'esque gameplay and combo routes.
The move is just so flashy and a nice mixup when jumping into it (as it has invul from the ground) or off stage while using the P2/Dante color for optimal GUN.

the grappling hook is insanely good though what are you talking about? you can literally grab the ledge with it if you're offscreen and in the middleish part of the stage, and there is no penalty after using it once and arsene coming back saved me actually a couple times

I like using PK Eiha to annoy and the gun to bait. Hook is a cool idea but I think it needs a wider hitbox and completely vertical variant. Or maybe it's actually there and I just keep fucking it up no matter how straight I try to get it. He can rack up damage pretty fast on the move so that's good enough for me.

Grapple is pretty useless offensively, but is really fucking good for recovery neat edges, Gun kinda sucks unless you have Arsene, then it shreds, Actually really good against single-player bosses since they signature since just one counter will basically instantly net you Arsene and then you can gun em down in seconds.

Best offensive thing in the kit without Arsene is easily Eiha, but that makes it really predicable.

Arsene also lasts a really long time so "Meter" is less of a issue then i thought it would be.

Unsurprisingly not as good a Doryaa for Spirit battles.

At 0-to-low%, dthrow > sh upair > grounded grapple seems to be true on most characters with a potential follow up to another up air / frame trap. This is if they keep trying to DI away, which most people do instinctively at low %.

He doesn't need Eiha or gun to be offensive, he already has Sheik tier movement with Falcon/Marcina aerials. Baiting out options from opponents into either the stupidly strong bair, fair 1 into a smash or if you have Arsene out, dair into up smash killing below 100%.
