Is there good theme support? I really don't like how the default UI looks, and the themes I want to use run just fine on Stepmania for me (except for the DDR A theme which runs like shit). Also are .lua courses (gimmick/mod songs) built for OpenITG/Stepmania 5 supported?

I'm mainly a pad player. So far I don't see any reason to switch from Stepmania 5/OpenITG to Etterna. The performance improvements sound nice, but honestly when I'm in game everything runs at a locked 60FPS even with 720p background videos.

if you play pad theres pretty much no reason to use etterna. its best to stick with stepmania 5/openITG/nITG

all charts that work in sm will work for etterna. it just has extra features for keyboard.

people who play pad dont play etterna since most pad features are ripped out.
there is still a big pad community on othersites and forums. mostly around facebook iirc

osu! if you want actual different gamemodes/more keys and way better UI, Etterna if you exclusively care about 4k and want a really engaging competitive community. Both communities have their bad sides, just stay to a small group of people and you'll be fine tho lol.

I think it's a common thing for every genre and it's a really weird stuff, improving without seeing yourself improve because you are always following improvement/perfection and since there is always something to improve at in that genre or any genre, there is some feeling of despair that I'm never improving going into my mind sometime
anyway didn't want to rant but just wanted to know if this feeling was felt too so that I try to focus on improving instead of doubting

If you play pad then it's all cool, but if you play keyboard then you are severely limiting yourself to an inferior engine in almost every aspect. The rating system, scoring, rendering, ingame song downloading all are features you will be missing out.

I'm sure the technical aspect is great but Osu just has a way better game concept.

Change EnablePitchRates=1 in /Etterna/Save/Preferences.ini to EnablePitchRates=0 to prevent ear cancer.
