Do people simply overrate the ever living shit out of this because it makes 3 and 4 look like amateur hour, or is this genuinely a bonafide masterpiece?

Neither,it's just a shit game obsidiots and nmafaggots shill because it's not made by bethesda.

It's more engrossing than 3, and 4 is just a fucking shitty fallout game. Voice acting was a mistake. 1>2>>>NV>3>>>>>>>

I thought it was pretty good. Hardcore mode is cool. (usually) interesting characters.

that's not true, it felt incredibly immersive with a colossal world to explore as a teenager and I didn't know crap about video game politics back then

New vegas 2 when

Unironically my favorite fallout game.

Great story and good mechanics.

am I the only one that stopped playing 4 because even after years of patches the questlines are still broken? I also got game breaking graphical glitches that require loading saves.

I don't know where else to post it so it's going here but the other day I was thinking about the lyrics to big iron when I want you back by jackson 5 came on and I sung the lyrics to big iron to the tune of I want you back and it fit so fucking perfectly I can't get it out of my head.
Just try it:
youtube.com/watch?v=s3Q80mk7bxE

To the town of Augua Fina
Rode a stranger one fine day
Didn't talk to folks around him
Didn't have too much to say
No one dared to ask his business
No one dared to make a slip
'Cause the stranger there among them
had a big iron on his hip

I fucking love this game to death but when people praise it, they tend to praise the idea of everything this game got right, the writing, the choices, the themes and such. They rationalize that not only is it a good game despite the trashfire of a game engine that the world is attached to, they praise a theoretical game that is fallout new Vegas exactly the same but in Unreal engine 4.
Fuckin Bethesda engine is utter garbage we all know, but that’s not an excuse to ignore it when critiquing new Vegas.

I mean, I agree that 1 and 2 are better, but both of those games have voice acting as well.

New Vegas is great. Interesting and varied quests, good characters (for the most part), good variety of weapons available to use, plenty of options for playthroughs (faction interactions, dialogue branching, etc.). It's just a well-realized thing. Easily one of the better open-world RPGs the West has made.

I think that it only really makes sense to analyze this game in the context of 3 and 4. This game would not have happened if it were for Fallout 3's success, yet it did pretty much everything better than Fallout 3. If you were to analyze it in a vacuum though, it would still be an above average RPG, albeit with a really bad game engine and all the problems that that incurs. It is still of great quality on in its own right, but the reason that it is praised so highly is that Obsidian made the best of a shit engine and showed up Bethesda.

git gud

This.

New Vegas is the real Fallout 3

What would it take for Fallout as a franchise to get bought back by obsidian?

I must have played this game at least 20 times over. the DLC is so good especially the one with the abandoned casino.

We've already got it, user.

Attached: the-outer-worlds-game-awards-title.jpg.optimal.jpg (1080x600, 74K)

Anyone playing a female character who went legion is legally retarded.
Actually, going legion in general was retarded. Fite me faggots.

4 = NV >>> 3 didnt play the first two lol

Unironically my favorite game.

Great story, good mechanics and RPG elements.

That's Bioshock in space, user.

>4 = NV
fucking how

>Epic exclusive
I didn't want to pirate it, but I guess china men already paid for my copy.

Hmmm, world that changes depending on your choices or cutscenes that change depending on your choices. What will Yea Forums choose?

It's on the Microsoft store, too.

Nobody uses that shit man.

how about you just play it and see what happens? do you also ask the internet if you can take a piss?

I'm just pointing out that it's not an exclusive. It's just not on Steam, which might as well be the same thing to most people.

yes

No bullshit
>Pros
-Excellent for its time
-Actually lets you become who you want
-Options for how you complete missions are here in spades
-Had its glitches but the story and role playing made you stay
-Only once you master all factions and groups does the game ever feel linear
-Aesthetic as fuck, the Mojave wasteland feels like one of the most vibrant life filled worlds in a video game
-Music was second to none
- All DLC is very well worth asking price.
- Game is very well worth the $60 asking price from launch.
>Cons
-Gunplay as absolute garbage, worse than some free chinese BR game
- Graphics were sub par, with ENB's you can fix this now but even at the time they weren't par for the course
- Alot of technical stuff that shouldn't need mod support to patch. Such as 2gb vram limiter on steam edition
-The game was a cock tease, showed us what we could potentially have with the fallout series and Bethesda ripped it away

>All DLC is very well worth asking price.
*blocks your path*

Bethesda games, for all their problems (and there are a TON of them), scratch a pretty unique itch. They are something between a mindless loot-a-thon like diablo and an immersive open world game. There is nothing else exactly like them and whatever they are is something good. Take that, add some decent writing and a consistent world and you get New Vegas. Its everything great about a bethesda game but with the crappy parts improved upon.

honest hearts was my favorite of all the dlc

I think the story and "roleplaying" are heavily overrated but I still love it anyway.

Based and redpilled. It's the best Bethesda game and it wasn't even made by Bethesda.

Attached: 15130552007108.jpg (660x371, 49K)

Don't you make me play it again.

How can you prefer HH over DM or OWB? DM is fucking kino and the best written of all the DLC.

It's not a masterpiece because of shitty ass engine that ruins everything, but it's still the best RPG ever made, not that anyone is trying to top them. Genre itself is kinda dead.

If you had picked dead money i might have given you a "fair enough"

But you right out pick my favorite one goddamn it. Even though Zion was a boring landscape it still had more interesting characters in it than breath of the wild had in its entirety

>but it's still the best RPG ever made
Nigga, it's not even the best Fallout game.

Attached: RPGCodexTop50.jpg (1000x627, 225K)

It's a great game, especially with mods, but Kotor II is better.

Attached: peace.png (305x321, 113K)

Nah it's garbage, I mean if you like Fallout 3 trash tier gameplay then it's a better version of that but it's still really bad. Most of your playtime will be spent wandering around an ugly map devoid of detail or interesting systems where all the content is restricted to certain points of interest, and engaging with the braindead combat that makes Fallout 1-2's simplistic AP management look like high level tactics. If there's some mods to bring the combat to 4 and significantly speed up travel then maybe it could be tolerable.

I couldn't bring myself to finish the first 2, or any of the games in the top 5, they're just too outdated and boring.

Not him but Honest Hearts has really great lore and writing behind it, it's just unfortunate that it's so short and the main story is kind of dumb in the end. Dead Money and Lonesome Road are both kino in their own ways, and Dead Money is probably my favorite. Old World Blues has some fun moments but it's extremely exposition heavy and it has some of the worst gameplay out of any of the DLCs, fuck those stupid robot scorpions.

>tried to be chummy with Benny
>He seems cool, even gave me keys to the penthouse
>KNOCK KNOCK
>dudes with guns bust through the doors shooting up the place

fuck man I'm a sucker.

It's just as bad as 3 or 4.
It just has a bearable story.

Honest Hearts was short and sweet, plus you get to team up with based Burned Man.

Thing is, the game was rigged from the start.
also, >Being chummy with guy who literally shot you in the head
Did you roll a 1 for int?

Just kill him in his sleep.

I didn't want to have to kill the guy honestly. I still got to beating the daylights after him after crushing his goons.

He left you for dead. Why not kill him?
Although, I forgot the best thing you can do to him is have him hung on a cross by the Legion.

Objectively NV has more and better things to offer than other two. Just compare stuff and you'll see. I just personally think that NV is the best fallout game because of how much content it has and way better story. It's not as short as first one and not as wacky as second. Some people just have too much respect for original game and can't put anything above Fallout 1 because of it.
Also, Witcher games are not RPG, those are action-adventures.

Agree completely
>Aesthetic as fuck, the Mojave wasteland feels like one of the most vibrant life filled worlds in a video game
Especially this, never get why people are so hard on the setting

2 has more content, though. 2 also has more replayability.

Id say dlc wasnt worth it, its worth it as a goty version though for sure.

No, it's not. Open wiki and compare. NV is like 70 hours long with all DLC if you go for full playthrough.

WHERE THE FUCK ARE THE GOOD QUESTS EVERYONE IS ALWAYS TALKING ABOUT
THIS GAME IS SHIT

Attached: 1554874435028.jpg (640x643, 29K)

Obviously, if you include 4 DLC packs, it'll have more content, but without them 2 has more.

Beyond the Beef is probably the best quest in an RPG ever. Not even kidding.

to the town of christchurch rode a stranger one fine day

as an rpg fan i will say it def has its moments and sparks of soul
but i just cant get over how bad the presentation and animations are.
if you care about these things in general you should not support gaming companies from california.

Attached: 1541728232198.png (945x760, 793K)

>Obviously, if you include 4 DLC packs, it'll have more content, but without them 2 has more.
Great logic, you won.

Fair enough, some were a tad short but not awful for $15 a piece. If you did them to full completion you can milk 8-12 hours out of each for just a few more dollars than a movie ticket. Better than a COD map-pack for $25+tip for 4 new 3 lane maps

But yeah the Goty now is easy to find for like $6, no reason to not pick it up

The bad thing about NV is that shotguns without the shotgun surgeon perk are dogshit due to how armor works.

I'm glad you accept defeat.

Ok I'll admit beyond the beef was pretty nice, maybe my favorite too. But when I think of new vegas quests I think of that stupid ghouls blasting off in rockets one, or HELIOS one, or just getting sent into some bland dungeon that has terminal entries scattered throughout it

HH wasn't about courier or Vegas, it was about a bunch of savages and failed legion commander. Nothing interesting.

Helping the ghouls is a good question, though; very memorable premise, lots of opportunity to be creative with solutions to the problems.
I'd also like to add that the Vault 11 quest is probably one of the scariest things in a non-horror game.

I cant tell you what you like, but if f you want pointers a good first playthrough as a good boy NCR "Best possible ending" will run you through some decent quests.

But it depends on what you want
> Funny
The kings and All free-side quests
> Serious
Legion or house
> combination
Wild card or NCR

Explore, talk, you'll find them

What do you want the world to treat you like?
> Powerhouse capable of anything
High STR high INT
> Retard
Low INT high STR and END
> Suave smooth talker
High INT High CHR

Literally the world is your oyster here pal.

he meant for the protagonist you doofus

Attached: bd6.png (546x566, 8K)

My game won't load when I try to load it, I just get a loading screen forever. I was in the outskirts of New Vegas at the time. What can I do?

Attached: BDFFbravelee.jpg (480x480, 29K)

Compelling characters, factions and world, the only things that held it back from being the true game Obsidian envisioned were consoles and Bethesda

3 and NV don't have voiced protagonists either.

how dumb are you? he meant that voice acting for the protagonist was a mistake in 4

Fallout game as a spiritual successor to NV, set in the Texas Commonwealth when?
>mutant rodeo bulls that have turned into literal Minotaurs who chase you on two legs
>Texas rangers
>Oil rigs turned into scavenger's apartment towers
>Raider gang living in a canyon that doubles as a racetrack for their fleet of pre-war motorbikes they restored
>Tornado alley with twisters of radiation that occasionally touch down & force you to find cover
>Radio is the big band 40's/50's pop tunes you'd expect but with a strong dose of rockabilly/surf/country/jazz as well
>Texas/Louisiana border slowly being overtaken by a overly-mutated swampland thanks to malfuctioning g.e.c.k efforts

Someone please pry the Fallout IP from Bethesda's incompetent fingers

>a bunch of savages
guess who didn't play 2

It’s the Skyrim of the Fall Out series
It’s got all the bells and a whistles, but Fall Out 3 had a better story

>He doesn't know

Attached: fallout-4-orleans.jpg (595x320, 35K)

Fallout 4: New Vegas is gonna be your best bet

That shit is literally never ever happening, though.

3 has legitimately one of the worst stories in a AAA game and I mean that earnestly.

Attached: Fallout 3 Story.png (912x670, 85K)

Yeah, why would Fall Out be in Europe?

Its world was more sugoi tho

>not killing him with a headshot
user, I...

It was the first western rpg I'd ever played, the extensiveness and possibilities that the quests and the worlds have made me get high expectations for fallout 4

NV's story suffers from a serious case of "tell not show".

What went wrong?

Attached: Fallout 4 vs New Vegas.jpg (1013x1218, 197K)

>What do you want the world to treat you like?
Let's not delude ourselves here. 99% of dialogue is the same. In most of my playthroughs I'm the legendary one-man army who infiltrated the Legion camp and killed Caesar and his elite gang of bodyguards all by myself, after everyone and his mom tell me "the Legion dies when Caesar does." Guess what? No one gives a shit. Questgivers still treat me like a dog at worst and an errand boy at best, just like any other RPG.

No, fallout game on the canadian border with an insane mounty military group invading the US with mutant giant battlemoose's as siege engines.

What’s up with all these Fallout threads today?

Fangoys didn’t approve

I know that this is a copout but this is one of the few situations where I genuinely believe that this was because they simply didn't have the time or resources to show everything that they wanted to. Remember that New Vegas was developed in 18 months.

You're just going to post some chicks from Chivas de Guadalajara just like that?

Bev Vegas

That last part seriously disgusts me, player choice and freedom of doing what you want compromised by DLC, I don't know what to think, if they left that half assed ending because they were planning on releasing broken steel since the beginning or because of their incompetence? both probably

Sorry om high.

Attached: 1544829042626m.jpg (1024x576, 72K)

Si puto chupame los huevos

Mediocre base gameplay with excellent quests and characters.

yes and yes, it's still >bethesda so its still got its fair share of shit, but at the same time Obsidian (Black Isle Studios 2) built the world to well and with so many grey areas the only really definable path is the Legion, and even they have some pretty convincing reasons as to why they're larping as romans and slaving

Why do you keep posting the same thread over and over don't you have something better to do?
Are you that upset at NV?

>Remember that New Vegas was developed in 18 months.
Remember that Obsidian had both an engine and assets, as well as ideas from the scrapped Van Buren by Troika.

underrated post

Attached: Bran.jpg (599x717, 84K)

That pre-Broken Steel ending was the biggest fuck you to the player ever. Of course, Broken Steel was too.

remember that obsidian had no prior history with bethesda's shitty engine so they had to spend a good chunk of time learning the damn thing before they could actually do shit

suelta la pija de tu mano y jalame esta

little bit of both.

meant for

I just uninstalled fallout 4 out of anger

Finished New Vegas and want to play an Elders Scroll game for comparison. Should I play Skyrim since it came out around the same time? I know its quests aren't amazing but is it still fun to explore?

Your character has little effect on the world itself. You could be Mr. NCR and do all of their quests, but the most you'll get is certain NPCs kissing your ass in pointless dialogue, the key to the NCR safehouse (which is borderline useless), an easy way to bypass parts of the "help Bitter Springs" quest, and a speech option that prevents the mercs from harassing Jacobstown. NCR quest givers don't give half a shit if you are NCR Jesus or speedran your way through the main NCR questline. Destroying the Legion's presence in the game down to the last man, including Caesar, only gets a little bit of filler dialogue added to random NPCs and Mr. New Vegas, and being able to save Hanlon without a skill check.

New Vegas plays exactly like a Bethesda game and if people didn't know better, nobody could tell a difference.
It's buggy, looks like shit, plays like shit and the characters all look soulless. The dlcs are a slog to play through as well.
The only people who like this game are zoomers who were too dumb to get into the original Fallouts and chose to astro turf New Vegas to make it appear like an equally good game, when in truth it's a piece of dog shit.

skyrim is the fallout 4 of elder scrolls
oblivion is equivalent to new vegas
morrowind is equivalent to fallout 3

Skyrim is a bit of a paradox; on paper, it doesn't really do anything well, but I always find myself going back to it because it has something that no other open world RPG has. That being said, if you're looking for something more in line with NV, I'd recommend Morrowind.

>engine and assets
They didn't even use that many assets from Fallout 3, I would hazard that probably 2/3 of New Vegas's assets are unique. And yeah, they had the engine, but that engine is a piece of shit that's incredibly hard to develop. They even did their own modifications like changing the inventory and leveling systems. 18 months to make all of the superior quality content that is in New Vegas is impressive.

desu, if you want an equivalent experience , modded morrowind is your best bet
ding dong yur opinion is wrong

Found the zoomer
Daggerfall and Morrowind are the best in the series, Oblivion is garbage and Skyrim is a game people use to replace Honey Select.

The cardinal sin of Fallout3 is its irredeemably shit ass story

look, las creaturas are fighting

Attached: 311dc43c757548ca1ca14b1bb79ed38b.gif (492x499, 731K)

It's one of those "They'll expand it to Steam in a year" deals, isn't it? I'm a patient man, if that's the case then I'll pick it up in a year after all the Epic shitters are done beta testing and they release it with any necessary patches.

Cool. I'll go with morrowind then. Don't want to mod it unless i go in and its unbearable.

more like they skirimified fallout in fallout 4 and made it 10x shittier

Based.

That was Bethesda's fault retard

The only thing you might find off-putting is the dreadfully slow default movement speed. I'd recommend getting the Boots of Blinding Speed ASAP.

This.

I like game

it might be overrated but it's genuinely fun, amazing by modern rpg standards, good by proper standards.

Fallout NV is a very over rated game, its no where near the level of quality that fans demand when it is compared to more popular games like Fallout 3 or Fallout 4 which revolutionized gaming for an entire generation spawning its own MMO which is available now called Fallout 76.

^this

I will not fall for your tricks this time, todd.

Your game sucks, Todd. Get off of Yea Forums.

Nailed it!!!

I think it's that 3 brought a beloved franchise to a new kind of game, but it had some problems and really wasn't as well written as we would have liked. NV was basically everything we wanted 3 to be. They basically looked at popular mods for 3, feature requests from people who played 3, and implemented it all with better writers. (John Gonzalez in particular is a pretty great writer, IMO)

Honest Hearts is my least favorite and I'd even say it's worth 10 bucks. All the NV and 3 DLC were good except for Mothership Zeta.

4's DLC on the other hand should be purged from history. Sure, Far Harbor did a better job with 4's story than the core game did, but it was still just a worse version of Point Lookout, and Nuka World was 100% a mistake.

Honest Hearts is worth it just for the loot and Joshua alone
Zion being one of the most beautiful locals in gaming helps too

Far Harbor is straight up better than the base game.

The Survivalist was worth the price of admission for me.

>Far Harbor is straight up better than the base game
I'll agree with that in regards to the story, but everything else is worse and it's way too light in content (side quests, exploration) to warrant its asking price. It's an okay DLC, not a great one, and not one I'd purchase again given the choice.

someone needs to explain these types of posts to me, what's the point?
if it's bait, it's the super bad
if it's a joke, it's a bad one

I liked Automatron.

operation: anchorage was garbage too and point lookout(i think it was called that) was mediocre. never bothered with the rest of 3's DLCs

This should've played during the end credits
youtube.com/watch?v=LZfItlZG97Q

>operation: anchorage was garbage too
I really loved that one. Most DLCs are just "here's more stuff to explore", which is fine, but my favorite DLCs were the ones that purposely subverted what you'd expect from Fallout since they felt much more fresh and interesting. O:A was one of those because it was just a linear experience that forced you to use what it gave you, Dead Money in NV was similar and is one of my favorites as well. The Pitt and Lonesome Road also rank high for me for similar reasons.

another disaster of Fallout 76 proportions

Dead Money is true kino. Perfect synthesis of survival horror and RPG elements, on top of the best writing in the entire game.
>Finding it isn't the hard part. It's letting go.

>Dead Money is true kino
based and redpilled

Finally, a smart game for smart people.

Bioshock Infinite and Bioshock are completely different, to be fair.

Play it for yourself if you want to know if it's good retard

>supposedly great game
>game play is shallow, uninspired and the mechanics are clunky
