Let's try this again, talk about what you're playing, strategies for high level play, frustrations with the game/genre etc
Indepth Beat Em Up Game Thread
>bayonetta
>In depth
Lmao. Play DMC V kid
Was hoping for less shitposting this time
>DMC5
Sure pal. Bayonetta is has no depth but DMC5 is gold. We all believe you and agree. Now that you've heard what you wanted to hear, fock off.
>Doing really well
>Get aware of it
>Start choking
Fucking hell
Genre peaked early, only Ninja Gaiden seceded it.
I'm actually playing Bayo2. There is so many parts that it improves on from 1 but at the same time it drops the ball in so many others.
I've kinda dropped DMC5. It's more interested in fanservice than being its own animal so I really am not feeling it.
I haven't got a Switch and my comp can't run Wii U emulators, what's wrong with Bayo 2?
while I respect you OP for trying you're not going to get much from these threads. Its a niche genre most haven't played so they'll just shitpost. That being said if you're a fan of these games you should try out Aces Wild, its simple but unlocks the last difficulty from the start making for a decent challenge run.
>frustrations with the genre
There's barely anyone making this kind of game, and the vast majority of them that do come out, even from competent developers who have previously done good work, end up deeply flawed at best. These games seem like they sell pretty well, why are so few of them being made?
Aces Wild looks pretty fun but for whatever reason I can't into 2D versions of these games, like that Chinese game or Viewtiful Joe. Seeing the Yea Forums catalogue over the past week has made me think the quality has gone down, especially today with the nonstop Smash posting.
i think you meant to post this

Has anyone played Tunche Arena? I was kind of liking it at first, but overall I found it to be a little boring. The game tries nothing new and the only thing it has going for is juggling. I hope the full game gets more fleshed out.
Haven't heard of it, but "Segafan69" on the steam reviews says its bad
A lot of little things that pile up.
The animations are better, the gameplay os silky smooth, and the designs are just better. Better colors, better stages, better enemies. They certainly took the main concepts and went a step above.
The issues, however, really put a damper on gameplay. For one, witch time has been trimmed, which in itself isn't bad, but there are so many new parameters that make it fractions of a second in the right conditions, which is something that pops up alot. The panther run no longer lets you dodge all the way to the other side of the stage. It just travels the normal distance. There is weird pause that come when ending some combos. The animations are just long enough to get you in trouble. There are too many effects going on at times blocking your view on the action and leaving you vulnerable. This is also an issue when you fight a shit load of big opponents, which happens more often than other games, and the camera zooms out. With everything going on it's hard to see it all. Bad ass, but cluttered. This and some other stuff make it a pain in the ass at times. It's a fantastic game but these little flaws just get in the way.
THAT SHIT RIGHT THERE!!
It happens to me when I'm trying to do a PP or S run and it pisses me off. When I'm not I am fucking unstoppable but once I start trying it falls apart on me.
Its a simplistic beat em up but still one that rewards timing with its air combat, counters, and dashes. Honestly just think of it like a shallow bayonetta in 2d almost.
Is Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae actually good, or do people just pretend it's better than it is because it's a small indie game?
Mutant Ninja Turtles turtles in time.
There's too much to counter:
>over-reliance of witch time which limits your combos
>bosses rely on umbran climax which also limits your combos
>there's now a cooldown on jump cancelling
>no point in using accessories because of above
>no point in experimenting with weapons because of above
>new weapons barely have a moveset and come off as really shallow or absolutely broken like the chainsaws
>can't relaunch basic enemies despite them giving you more options for air combat
>no penalty for using items
>prior moves now useless and dont give weaves like witch twist unless in UT
>More combo breaking enemies
>circle gun now does push back, uses magic, basically gimped as a tool altogether
>no point in magic management or torture attacks because you have to use it on UC
>Enemies no longer flinch with weaves and now only do so with UC
There's a lot more but tl:dr bayonetta 2 is 10 times easier but also limits your options more than any other game. The game is only WT and UC, nothing more.
It's not really quite the same. It certainly scratches the fast paced awesome looking combat, but it's nuts and bolts are a bit simpler. That being said, it is very satisfying in it's simplicity. I think of it more like shinobi: not a lot of moves but there's some nuance to how best approach and quickly dispatch an enemy/mob.
Where all my TFD bros at? HOW DO I BUILD WHEELJACK?!!?
Anyone got tips for Vanquish? I can't get it to click, it feels like the best way to play is a cover shooter. Your energy runs out super fast the way I try to play
No it's very bland and generic
I did not like it. Copied too much from DMC4 and also not enough. Like it got some surface stuff but forgot to add anything noteworthy and also didn't bring ALL the variety that DMC4 offered. That said it's competently made. I'd recommend assault spy over it tho, but last time i played it it was hella glitched and the girl's campaign kept crashing in the final 10% and eating my save when it did so >.>
cringe
When's giraffe blowjob gonna get it's due.
I think you're the only one sufficiently autistic enough in this thread to understand what this means
God Hand's my favorite by far, no other 3D game could scratch that itch so I ended up going back to Capcom's classic beat 'em ups and they were pretty much what I was looking for. So much more to them than meets the eye, would recommend God Hand fags to try 1cc'ing some of them, especially if you're a fan of how GH plays on lvl die/hard, especially with KMS what with the crowd control and somewhat methodical gameplay.
>sequel had a hard release date
>went to FUCKING GAMESTOP on release day to pick it up
>guy at the counter had no clue what I was talking about
>found out from the internet after I got back home that the game had been silently cancelled
I'm still fucking mad.
Ok, these things are true but the other parts I don't see the correlation.
Yeah, it's over reliant on WT but how does that limit your combos? And how does that render accessories and experimentation pointless?
dragonball.fandom.com
Not canceled bro
The game has its fans. There are a lot of people that appreciate it and really get into its mechanics. Say what you will about Capcom but they make good combat systems.
How do you guys deal with no lock on in TFD?
>It's more interested in fanservice than being its own animal so I really am not feeling it.
That's because you're a brainlet. DMC5 is actually the most innovative action genre since maybe DMC3, since it requires you to manage 3+ weapons at the same time on the regular. Not chaining strings, but actually using them at the same time without any interruption. And the funny part is that that feature evolved from DmC failing to copy Bayo's combos.
I just can't into TFD, something about it feels off.
I was talking about Transformation 2, dude.
>Decide to replay Nier automata in hard mode.
>First hours it's genuinely difficult, with even small grunts being capable to kill you very fast.
>Starts to get chips and levels going.
>I fucking oneshot bosses with one combo/hack.
What went wrong and is there a mod to fix this?
Automata isn't meant to be a game for its combat, you play it for the world, story, characters, etc
Talk to me about 2D beat em ups.
I love the shit out of Vanillaware games, but there has to be more out there.
The more aggressive, the better, Amazon was my favorite character.
Odin Sphere by the same people, Senran Kagura 3DS is 2D
There's no excuse for bad gameplay with a platinum game.
You've never played a Taro game. Play the games from the start
The gameplay was made by platinum ya pinhead, taro was directing but outside of stuff like story, sidequests and writing he has nothing to do with the gameplay.
Bloodrayne Betrayal is really underrated. Made by Wayforward and to give a meme example feels to me like a 2D DMC1 spliced with MMX. Too bad i'm too lazy a faggot to get around to making webms for it.
Are you kidding? There's tons.
If you want something modern play Fight N Rage, it's the best one by far. Mixes old school pain in the ass enemies with some modern influences like a fairly indepth combo system where you mix and match a small number of moves in tons of different ways, and 3 main characters that play differently. Otherwise just go get the Capcom classics on MAME, Shadow Over Mystara, Punisher and Alien vs Predator are very good games to start off with, in that order pretty much.
SoM is very easy but it has a bunch of different moves, magic and items to play around with, most of the appeal is in just how much and how creatively you can break the game. Punisher is still easy but it's tighter, it has the smoothest movement and a very fast pace. AvP is a pretty big step up in difficulty, but it's very fast paced and makes playing aggressively fun, has a simple but tough juggle system. After that you can try out Battle Circuit, Knights of the Round, Armored Warriors and more.
Final Fight is probably the most aggressive beat em up in terms of surviving, you have to be in control at all times or else you die very quickly. I wouldn't recommend starting with it though because it has a lot of very clunky mechanics and cheapness that takes a while to get used to, but once you do it's a fantastic game.
Then you have the non-Capcom beat em ups, like Violent Storm, Guardians, Shen Jian The Gladiator and more.
Just make sure you stick to 1 credit per run, otherwise chances are you won't get the appeal.
>Bayonetta
What depth? You just need button masher and doing QTEs.
>Valvrape the Cringenator poster
>Cringe
Clockwork
Show us ur stone trophy collection
>Just button mash dude
The customization Nier has is cool as fuck and I would love for it to be expanded on in a real action game instead of one that's hampered by mostly terrible enemy design and rpg bullshit
Closest thing we have is Transformers which feels like a prototype of Automata in some ways
>terrible enemy design
Tbh that's the least of automata's problems, you get plenty of enemy variety each very distinct with their own movesets, problem is that they die way too quickly because of how the game was built and the fact that they decided to not use the mmany of those enemies late in the game while instead spamming the normal ones.
