How was your local swap meet? Get any other overpriced items that you'll regret within a week?
This is shitty ass sword, user. You bought it at a gift shop?
I remember getting one of those ocarinas that was plastered all over nintendo power magazines around the time OoT came out, never did learn to play it well but it's a nice decoration at least
I bought a game once
I got a heavy bag and a weight set because I like tekken. It made me really self conscious about being another twiggy nerd playing fightan games
actually a real one would cut right through the flappers.
Is this at least a true 5k Nippon sword or some shitty replica?
What's a swap meet?
No, I ordered it from a blade shop at a discount for 250. Not properly folded, but damascus cuts quite nicely.
Did this too, I wanted to be ripped like Kazuya
Did it come with a matching fedora, faggot?
>He doesn't buy a Nihonto that is Tokubetsu and above
Shame on you
lol
>filename
Well done, user. 9/10
:::Teleports behind you:::
Its a lovely blade user, now, can it handle Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu?
I've bought clothes based on Sims 4 outfits I've made.
>it's tape
>mitsuwugi
>it's soooOOO SHINY (he hasn't even unsheathed his Hanwei Practical Katana
>WATCH IT
It’s a meet up where people swap wives and girlfriends, dude. How do you not know this?
Most weapons needed to be made cheap back then sweaty
>not even daiamahagane grade
I hereby name your letter opener: Kusobimaru
Real talk though, how would I go about getting a real nice katana?
A real good one you need to get from a Japanese smith who folds them 3 million times.
How much money do you want to spend? If you wanna go big then Nihonto dot com is a good site
You can't if you're not native Japanese. And even then it takes 10 grand or more.
>shitty ass acid etched "damascus"
Japanese swords are supposed to have hamons you big fat faggot. Take that mall ninja bullshit and shove it up your ugly ass.
If you want look only then buying a training Iaito is a good way too, lot of jap company sell them like Tozando
>cuts quite nicely
Bruh, the end of that box is clearly ripped. It couldn't even get through cardboard smoothly in a cut. I'm sorry but your sword is shit.
cringe
>tfw you will never own a top class katana
It hurt
I think thats a Tachi
Why tho? You're most likely a looner, so you'll never get the chance to show your fancy steel piece to any guest (like they even notice the diference in the first place).
I completely doubt youll ever get a chance to use it, but if you do there is no difference bethewn a hand made sword and a industrial made one nowadays. This goes for straight european style swords aswell.
$10k and up.
But if you just want to play around with a sharp object just get a pattern welded spring steel. That's better than the real ones anyway.
Order one from a sword store?
>under 100 - literally a toy, basically a big butter knife
>100 to 250 - can cut a bit, but soft steel will dull quickly
>250 to 500 - still machine made with obvious cost cutting, but will have better steel
>500 to 1500 - genuinely good stuff with excellent quality and a full tang
>1500+ - at this point you can probably get a traditionally handmade sword for extra authenticity
>making fun of mall ninja fedora lords

Katanas are specifically made to cut up random boxes and other objects

Made me laugh, thanks.
Can you just walk around with a sword in America? Based
Why did blue shirt man try to grab the sword?
I love these kinds of videos. Subways are fuckin wild.

You have to pay like 2000$ to get a hand-folded sword from the land of the rising sun. This is german damascus folded zero times.
>tsuka-maki style wraps as clothing
Never fucking thought about that
Watch out OP, other katana wielders in your area can now legally duel you to the death.
Can someone post it again? It has been too long
It's easy to do if you know how it's done.

I bought a recurve bow because of the TF2 huntsman. I ended up enjoying archery and bought myself a compound bow afterwards
Thing about this video is that even though everyone in it has sub 60 iq you can tell they're all happy enough as a family
that's really cool, actually. got any pics or tips for anyone who might be interested in that kind of thing?

DMC5 Yamato is sexier
Normal katanas are about 800 grams to 1 kg, so they are way lighter than most people assume.
This move is done by letting the sword drop into your last two fingers like pic related
What game? She's cute
You guys may laugh at him but it look like they are having a really good time
From here you use your middle and index to hold the sword.
Would NTR
At this point you transfer to your index and thumb like so.
That guy was cool, a fighter of justice. We will miss him.
And from here, you can hold the sword with the mineuchi (flat end) towards you. from here, you can just lean the sword against your forearm and guide it into the scabbard.
If you add an empty wrist swipe before all this, you get the famous Kairo-san shuffle. The wrist swipe also helps because it makes the sword help the whole movement.
are you wearing a bathrobe
Just get gendaito from gaijin makers, modern metallurgy results in a superior piece anyway.

interesting lesson, I feel like my katana is like 5lbs just in the handle alone though.. I got long skinny fingers makes twirling anything this large pretty hard.. will work on it though
Holy kek all these edgy autists buying poorly made swords. Don't hurt yourself. My friend was killed by a nigger holding a katana. He impaled him in his kidney.
nice didgeridoo, bro
Just do it slowly and be safe about it. I would seriously suggest doing it with something blunt at first.
Just say you use it for rice farming.
When was the last time a person was arrested for having a sword?
LANKEY user
Sure. Resident Evil drove me into the gun hobby. I spent around $1500-$2000 to make a Samurai Edge. I also bought an HK VP70z, a Makarov, and a Mauser HSc because they were featured in Resident Evil. That right there is about $3000 in guns just for a silly game.
More pics upon request.
Are you the user that has a model of Jill's, Wesker's and Chris' gun?
If you're gonna weeb go big.

Yes.

>arrested
It's more like will got confiscated and fined out of my ass i think
Nope. Not me. I only have Jill's. I have a Beretta 92FS Compact Inox with Samurai Edge grips on it though, if that's what you might be thinking of.
If you waved it around sure.
doubt the police would even care.
To me katanas are a bigger indication that someone is a weeaboo than anime. Sure, if you like anime you're probably also into katanas but I knew a lot of guys who didn't watch anime and thought they were cool for carrying a $50 wall hanger around town.
Damn, sorry to hear that bro. You could always move to burgerland or somewhere else that doesn't hate outdated weaponry so much eventually though.
I always watch that fucking Man at Arms youtube channel and want to get into smithing and make this kind of shit.
Posting them anyways since this thread is dying fast.

Very impressive. I built Krausers TMP from RE4 out of a B&T mp9, which is unfortunately not really available to buy anymore because they got bought by Steyr. It ended up being one of my favorite range guns I own.
Waiting for a Japanese version of him with a revolver twirling after saving a woman from a gang of criminals
oh, and I forgot to mention I put a PEQ-12 laserbox on the side to match the one he has on his gun in the game, and a matching vertical grip.
I remember you, a few days ago in some Sekiro thread you were like "Guys am I retarded, I'm about to spend $500 on a katana" and nobody replied so later I saw "Guys I just bought a katana"
Should've gotten a proper sword
Now that's something I'd like to see.
the actual materials are cheap I imagine so that's almost completely spent on the smith
jokes on you
impressive but also slightly painful to see it tested like that
For a compound you want to go to your local sports store and determine your draw length and draw weight, which is the length of how far you pull back the bow and the amount of force needed to pull the bow respectively, and ask a technician to fit it for you. Many bows nowadays come pre-packaged with accessories so you only need to change them out once you get more familiar with the sport and want better gear. There's plenty of youtube tutorials on proper form available for beginners, but the general idea is you want to stay in the same position with every shot. After you get your bow setup you're all set to head over to a range or place some targets in your backyard to start firing on. It's a really easy hobby to get set up on once you buy your bow, the only extra costs I've had after setting everything up was buying some higher quality arrows and some bowstring wax
souls games the only shit out there that did this right, katana are useful but have the lowest durability of all the weapons
The materials are cheap, it's the skills and time of artisans that you pay for.
A top class one require years
now i fully concede katanas would be inferior in materials and structure to a western sword but this is such a retarded test. Of course it's going to get fucked up when the other sword is braced by both the handle and the tip
Ive had a Katana for years
But i did live in Japan for a while

Wootz steel too good for us plebs
Never forget when a grandpa rediscovered legendary damascus forging techniques because he didn't want arabs with the credit
Katanas are meant for slashing, not smashing. Of course a thinner sword will break against a thicker one
requesting edit of sword at 6'0'' and man at 5'11''
You can walk around with one, sure. There’s no laws against that. Most places you can even walk around with a rifle. Threatening someone with a weapon is extremely illegal though
Can't even smash
Also Japanese fighting style is different from the western one
Its all about quick deadly strikes and being able to finish a fight ideally in the first strike
Western style is all about endurance and being able to take a beating, then give it back even harder in the melee so the weapons are built to a different standard
For some like the heavy two hand swords they didn't even need to really sharp

Not like this...
If you pull out a pair of nunchaku on some gangbanger and show off some bruce lee moves, a good majority of pavement apes will be spooked beyond belief
The remaining 20% will pull out their own ninja gear and try to fight you
Nunchucks are the best. This video says the guy is using a baseball bat but it's definitely nunchaku:
youtu.be
Also knife is statistically more dangerous for the user than a blunt weapon
And more trouble with the police if you get caught carrying them, worse if you actually stab a guy
Primitives would just throw chunks of rocks at you. I've been in riots, those fuckers can throw those accurately.
where did you get that sword user, it looks nice

We don't really get many riots here
And I don't purposely put myself in danger
Besides everyone and their mum loves DBZ and shounen anime here
being arrested is second fiddle when you are bleeding and or hemorrhaging to death.
A knife is a better deterrent than a goofy weapon that some people would see as ridiculous and engage in a fight anyways.
This. Always go with the knife.
youtube.com
you mean wapanese.. you newfggt
I font know how to fight well with a knife honestly so its pointless for me to use one
Meanwhile the vast majority of people have no idea how to fight against nunchaku so they become frightened when someone is competent with them
So you're a poser that don't need that shit in the first place.
Man, the 80's surely where wild.
Probably not
I mostly just carry them to practice out in the park
The point is that a knife is better at warding off trouble and would actually do more damage, you don't even need to get good with it, a baby know instinctively how to stab things.
The moment you fuckup in a fight where you have to pull out a weapon, you'd most likely be dead. Literally dead.
Reminder that swords are made from bargain bin dogshit steels. Even the $2000+ ones are made from garbage like:
1060
1566
1095
6150
6160
l6 'bainite' (buzzword)
Actually modern powder steels put all of the above to shame in every single field from toughness to edge retention to corrosion resistance. A sword-sized billet of CPM 3V costs $50~$100 and is vastly stronger than any steel used in swords today.
>$60 Musashi
if you're gonna be a faggot and buy a sword at the very least make sure it's a good one
>stupid shit
like what? I don't buy swords but ain't they just like buying literally anything else? Why are people so triggered by katana?
Fighting with a knife is pretty difficult and not worth the risk
Ideally Id carry a gun
Fighting against a knife is fucking dangerous dude, i rather fucking run unless i have a gun
Westerners have a huge inferiority complex and katana is a symbol of that.
>visitingtheArchstoneoftheShadowmen.jpg
That works best, but depending on the country the heat it brings is a bit too much.
here's your katana bro
Running is best.
But if you are backed-up and have nowhere to go, better have something in hand.
Return it and buy a Hanwei Practical.
Folded steel is a gimmick. It was useful in ancient times because of impurities and inhomegeneities in steel that are no longer present in modern steel. Folding only introduces air pockets and structural weakness in steel in exchange for making a pretty pattern.
Katanas were made to cut through peasants and shitty inferior Japanese armor
They gained a good reputation because they were only used in Japan and did just that.
If you took a katana to any part of the world you would have gotten fucking killed by a plate armor chad
*kick you off a bridge*
Same issue with knife in many ways

This shit is why I can never leave this place, thank you Ken-sama.
only place where it brings heavy attention is britbongland.
>britbongland
Eggs can get you in trouble there too so eh
Let me just stop you right there.
You don't know what you're talking about. Zero swords are made to cut through armor.
European swords are not "armor piercing". You do not cut through mail with a European sword.
Katana were excellent swords, and encounters between sailors and samurai just confirm this:
>A Spanish royal decree of 1609 specifically directed Spanish commanders in the Pacific ‘not to risk the reputation of our arms and state against Japanese soldier'”.
Giving Up the Gun: Japan’s Reversion to the Sword, 1543-1879: Noel Perrin, p. 35.
>“In Japan, it was necessary for every man to carry a pistol; but the Japanese [with their swords] invariably got the better of every man carrying one, even when he had it in his hand… …I maintain the great fault in our swords is that they will not cut. Use them as much as you like, unless you have them specially sharpened the night before, they are useless. In the cut, our swords are useless in nine cases out of ten. The Japanese use two-handed swords; if we could use them, I should say cut by all means; for they never want a second cut.”
“On Military Equipment,” Journal of the Royal United Service Institution
cited in Swordsmen of the British Empire
On a technical level, katana were really excellent killing tools. Unlike European swords, they were differentially hardened. This means the whole sword was covered in clay before it was heat treated, but they put very thin clay along the edge, to make it absorb more heat and become harder. As a result, the edge of katana was very hard and could take an extremely sharp edge, while the spine of the sword was still soft and flexible, preventing the sword from breaking under trauma. European swords were almost all "through hardened" - the entire sword was made of soft, flexible steel that wouldn't break, yet couldn't take (or maintain) a sharp edge. Additionally, the curve of katana is excellent for slicing.
yes you typically didn't attack armored opponents with the blade, but you could at the very least flip them around and beat them to death with it
>this is a german damascus folded zero times
Yeah, I can tell.
If you already have good damascus, you don't need to fold like pleb.
The million folds are already there.
Oh, and before anyone brings up steel quality, you should know that Japanese and European steel were both only as good as the smith wanted them to be.
Japanese ORE was inferior. Most Japanese steel was made with iron sands rather than ore, which have a lower iron extraction rate compared to ore. So, it took more sand to make steel. The final steel could have as much iron as the smith desired - it was just a matter of smelting more sand.
Steel folding was not an indicator of bad steel. In fact, folding was only done on the highest quality blades. Folding was done on European blades. It was a technique done to improve the carbide homogeneity of the steel, not to compensate for "poor steel quality" - today we take still take measures to improve homogeneity in high quality steel (powderizing + sintering)
What are these from, some random image set or a game?
Fuck off, weeb.
Damascus steel is two different types of steel (usually a stainless steel and a carbon steel) folded and oxidized so as to highlight the differences in lustre between the two steels. You cannot make damascus steel without folding.
Damascus steel is inferior to uniform steel in cutting ability, wear resistance, toughness, etc. It is inferior in all ways. It only looks better. It's an aesthetic concern.
The highest-quality steel for a blade is modern powder steel like CPM 3V. See
...
Friendly reminder that polearms > straight swords > katanas
I wonder when the razor blade caps are making a comeback.
In what way do you consider European straight swords superior to katana?
Yeah. Fortnite, pic Related.

Polearms were great in a group, on a level field, in the open, outside.
Not so great outside those conditions.
Straight swords are pretty dogshit. IRL people don't just die when you poke them with the tip of a sword.
Versatility. Ability to thrust (better range, harder to counter, capable of break mail if enough force is applied).
Guilty Gear inspired me to buy a guitar and learn to play because of the bitching music.
youtube.com
Thank you.
It doesn't break when you hit something harder than a peasant.
god damn if youre going to buy a sword at least get an old cavalry sabre or something a little sturdier.
>Ability to thrust (better range, harder to counter,
A thrust has exactly the same range as a slash. It is actually easier to counter, if we're talking about fencing. You don't move the enemy's sword so they can do whatever with it.
>capable of break mail if enough force is applied
Yeah... no. Maybe if you put a piece of chainmail on the ground and struck it from above at a 0 degree angle, you could perhaps break a single link and penetrate 2-3mm of sword.
Chainmail on a person? You'd just knock him back. If by some miracle you hit a link that had a structural defect it broke, you'd penetrate 2-3mm and it would go into his gambeson harmlessly. If by some miracle he wasn't wearing a gambeson, he would have a small nick on his chest.
What a fucking FAGGOT. AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, fucking kill yourself with it OP.
How is it OP? I have been practicing gumdo with the same wooden sword for at least 15 years.
>Polearms were great in a group, on a level field
Depends on what kind of polearm you use.
If you have a something with a very long shaft sure, you are at disadvantage. Something with a length you can fully address is best thing you can have in combat. Unless there are guns.
What about flying polearms
European swords were no more useful against mail than katanas were. Please get this out of your head. Life is not a video game: you do not penetrate mail with a sword.
On a open field, a pointy piece of metal on a long stick will always the superior melee weapon. You don't need a group to use a freaking spear.
>IRL people don't just die when you poke them with the tip of a sword.
I wonder why pikes were the most used primary weapon by most military for centuries. Who the fuck dies by being poked, lmao.
Not many people can do that. Even with the timing, they just don't have the flexibility.
A polearm is not a spear. If you meant spear, just say spear.
A spear is a different weapon from a straight sword, in case you didn't know that either.
user its not about what it can go through, but the durability of the weapon itself. A springsteel european sword can take a punishment that would irreparably damage a katana.
Can you not read good?
>I wonder why pikes were the most used primary weapon by most military for centuries.
Because they were very very cheap and easy to use (just poke @ enemy from afar)
Coming in at #2 under pikes for military weapon use was agricultural equipment like rakes & shovels. Does that mean rakes & shovels were superior weapons to swords?
Almost a full decade later and I still want to punch them both in the face.
comedy gold
I own a nodachi but it's pretty shit quality wise. Looks pretty fucking cool though, so that's something. I want to purchase a mace but have no idea how to go about it. I don't know who to give my money to.
I got one on Amazon, Kult of Athena has a nice selection as well. Just make sure they're "battle ready" and carbon steel.
Katana weren't at higher risk to break, they c\ouldget chips on the cutting edge though.
A period straightsword would have higher whole-body hardness (and thus, lower toughness) than the spine of a katana. European swords weren't differentially hardened, so they made the swords harder than they should be (in order to have a decent edge.)
Katana were overall very durable weapons. They would test them by cutting condemned criminals in half, ribs and spine inclusive. This was called tameshigiri.
Fun to goof around with in the backyard. Might buy some tatami mats when I run out of boxes and jugs.
Brazilian cops are dickheads and happy to beat people up
But guns are legal here now so ive thought to buy one and be like an American Suburban Cowboy
it inspired me to buy various video game artbooks, does that count?
If you want a genuinely good quality budget katana, buy a Hanwei Practical or Hanwei Practical XL. These are not wall hangers, they're made for competition cutting. XL is more for cutting tatami (steeper/sharper edge)
They cost $230 normally, or I believe you can get a 15% discount code for swordsoftheeast by googling.
>A thrust has exactly the same range as a slash.
You know literally nothing. trying to do a cut with the far end of a curved sword will do barely anything. The area of a cutting sword that is actually effective at cutting is in general at 2/3 of its length
A curved and a straight sword or equal length do not have the same lethal range.
A pole arm is literally any and every weapon on a long shaft you dumb fucking nigger
>Spears, glaives, guandaos, pudaos, poleaxes, halberds, harpoons, sovnyas, tridents, naginatas, war scythes and javelins are all varieties of pole arms.
en.wikipedia.org
I started blacksmithing as a hobby because of dark souls
He had that shit anchored to the ground, stabbing as hard as he possibly could at an even angle, sometimes stabbed the same spot multiple times, and from my speedwatch I don't think he ever got past "Yeeeah, I stabbed a little bit into the cloth underneath. Not much"
Yet still a European sword is more durable due to its Elasticity. A wrong flick of the wrist with a Katana can ruin the weapon even on softer targets.
I know about the sweet spot for slashing, it's just that what you said was wrong. A slash and a cut have the exact same range. Maximum-range cuts were frequently done for cutting people's hands (doesn't require a lot of force.)
This is why the white race is going extinct.
It's like you haven't been reading these posts at all.
The spine of a katana was softer (more elastic) than the whole body of a European sword. That's what differential hardening was all about: allowing for a very hard (sharp, wear-resistance) cutting edge with a very soft (elastic, tough) spine.
Yeah mail is very good protection. People have this strange image that you can just pierce through it.
Im a Med BVLL actually
Not a nordoid
And my country is already “gone” for a century now
Yeah... whenever I'm talking to people about katana and European swords online, every single time they bring up that European swords were good for cutting through armor.
It's surely because of video games.
Do you even see how much energy is lost? how much the whole thing recoils back?
You don't try to piece mail of a big armored guy when he's standing, you do it when he's on the ground. Using the whole fucking weight of your body while doing so.
>mass replying
Easier to pierce than plate but hardly so easy with good quality mail
But mail is not designed to stop piercing first and foremost, its combined with other material like hardened leather to stop that
The spine gave strength not elasticity, when pressure that can bend it is applied, it breaks.
How about you remove the LARP from your brain and go look at historical records of battle? They didn't use swords versus armor at all. Halfswording was a meme technique that was invented by fake masters who never went into battle. Using your very expensive sword against armor was a good way to break it.
In combat, people who wore armor were usually nobles, and as such they wouldn't commonly be killed. The enemy would disarm them and take them hostage for a ransom, also keeping their armor.
In the case of two armored fighters, they usually wrestled and used daggers.
Nice. This is my oldass bokken. I stole it from an old Korean grandmaster, still feel bad about it. Just took the wrong one home by mistake and moved cities.
Cuts and slashes first user. Piercing blows are still its bane for the most part. It can stop a sword, but a spear thrust would go through.
Daggers can't pierce mail, nigger
A young man is now hunting you to retrieve his famiry honor.
>Med BVLL
That's a weird way of saying "fucking faggot"
Jesus Christ. You wrestle the other guy to the ground and stab him in the joints.
Are you being stupid on purpose?
Right, that's where the wrestling came in. The idea is you restrain them and stab them in their visor with the dagger.
Here are two knights wrestling, one of them about to get hip thrown. Notice they swords and pikes have been thrown to the ground.
>see dumbass come at me with a sword
>shoot him in the leg then cave his skull in
take the wheellock pill
Which you can do with any pointy piece of metal.

I might not be able to use it, but my friend next to me sure as hell can stab the fool while I'm pinning him down. As long as he is not using a gay ass curved sword

that quote was less about overall western weapons and moreso the officer bitching that the ones they gave his men sucked ass, which was probably true considering how often suppliers ripped off buyers in the metallurgy department
Weilding a sword not only requires skill but strength. Lift some weights.
MGS3 inspired me to get fit to enlist in the army to be a green beret like snake did, and I picked up gun spinning dual revolvers because of ocelot. Red dead 2 expanded upon my revolver fondness to more of the western genre in general, and I've debated learning things like leather working or going camping in the woods

Katanas are literally a DEX weapon
so you're supposed to kill the other dude quickly before even needing to clash swords
The oft-argued greatest katana user (Musashi Miyamoto) was a giant by his time's standards, and his book repeatedly tells you to just hit the enemy's guard tirelessly until they drop their sword or you cut through and kill them.
terebess.hu
Another account (albeit of dubious accuracy) says that Benkei, a 6'6 monk, killed 300+ people with katana.

Why did you even bother lel
>that sword that does extreme damage but it's made for ants

I thought Musashi was a manlet compare to Kojiro ?
Obsidian is a really cool material.
Miyamoto was either 6'0 or 6'2 by different accounts (probably 6'0.)
Average male height in japan was 4'10-5'1 across various regions.
whats the minimum cost for a good european style sword?
Interesting, what modern scalpels made of now?
Use a stick
Anything made of 6160 steel is good. Hanwei Practical is allegedly the best budget brand for most european straightswords.
Modern scalpels are mostly made of steel. Some eye surgeries and robotic surgeries use diamond scalpels ()
>just hit the enemy's guard tirelessly until they drop their sword or you cut through and kill them
It cracks me up how the nig sees the sword and goes "THAS JUS WHAT I NEED" and tries to grab it.

I don't know. Single edged swords like sabres, machetes and katanas use strong blows in a single direction to be effective, compared to double edged swords that use more complex movements and so require more dexterity to be used effectively.
Momentum helps

Please tell me you don't believe that IRL sword fights look like anime with lots of twirling twisting fancy moves.
They just swung the sword. It was usually over in a couple seconds.

Because he'll experience the sweet release.
I bought a replica Masamune at a renfest one year. It's like eight feet long, and wobbles like you'd expect. Never hit anything with it since it would likely fall apart. Kind of regret not getting the aluminum alloy buster sword they had instead, it's much more recognizable.
because folded 1000 times nippon steel is a meme.
You know high quality euro swords were also folded, right?
Nice
The katana as we know it was literally made to cut through leather armor. Steel armor is a different story entirely since it was impervious to all bladed attacks, which is why european soldiers used blunt swords or half swording.
This is the stupidest thing I've read in a while.
Not that excessively, not even balfer was folded that many times.
By the time they got to nipland they stopped folding due to existence of blast furnaces and an abundance of good quality crucible steel, they had it centuries prior.
They basically just had to shape it.
because he's japanese and he's about to die
His ancestors are smiling at him
You forgot to mention that people testing their katana on prisoners would try to avoid bone because they were afraid of chipping the edge of their brand new sword
wish I could say the same
Except you made that up just now. Tameshigiri wasn't even performed by the customer, you shitty liar, it was done by career tameshigiri testers.
Drain my own blood into a tub over the course of months, separate the red blood cells from the plasma. Denature the cells, chemically separate the iron from the hemoglobin. Dig up my father's coffin, remove the finger bone he wore his wedding ring on and the rib bone directly in front of his heart. Take my best friend's right arm and turn the skin into leather. Forge the leather and bones into a handle. Temper the blood-iron in a blade and while it is still red hot splash it with a tiny amount of my spinal fluid. Cut off my hair and and add it to the handle.
When I die burn me to ash and have those compressed into diamonds. Fit a diamond tip onto it, adorn the rest with the remaining jewels.
except I didn't faggot. maybe look somewhere else other than wikipedia for your info before you call someone else a liar
Japan had blast furnaces 1000 years before Britain and 500 years before Sweden, lol.

Folding was done in European swords even into the 19th century.
You don't know the facts.
I bought this
Never played a monster hunter game before lmao
>>Not that excessively
More folding is good. I don't know why the fuck you would think otherwise.
The only reason to fold less is because you're lazy/it's a cheap sword.
Folding takes a lot of energy - imagine reheating a billet 20+ times to keep hammering and folding it.
I bought one of those cheap butterfly knife trainers because of TF2.
Had a half hour conversation about life, culture, the gays, and kindness to others with a homeless man on the subway the other day. He started a conversation by insisting he was the first person to ever own a phone. Very nice man.
now that westerners have created more beautiful weapons than katana, why are they still so bitter about katana being better than euro muttswords?
Learned to pick locks to honour my waifu. Actually ended up becoming a genuine hobby which I'm really enjoying. I've broken into my own house half a dozen times now.
LockPickingLawyer makes that look way more fun than it probably is.
It can get pretty frustrating at first but if you stick with it and practice, you'll eventually learn to feel out the pins. Transparent locks are a good start and you'll see some quick progress but stepping up to real locks is the challenge.
I've always been interested in lockpicking. How much is a kit like that?
Been getting a lot of his videos recently, google scares me sometimes.
Just use a bump key you faggot.
That's the first set I bought off ebay from China. It was $25 and works just fine. Comes with a transparent lock and a ton of picks. You can buy higher quality sets from lockpicking websites but ebay is a good start. I'm in koala land and they've just recently started selling them from what I've seen. You can probably get them cheaper than that if you do some searching.
If you only want to pick simple locks than all you really need are the following:
>Tension wrench
>Standard pick
>Snake rake
>City Rake
>Snowman pick
you can in Canada

user, the japanese didn't have blast furnaces. They have a shit bloomery that was fed shit iron and produced shit steel.
A bloomery is a blast furnace.
Japanese steel was pretty much identical to european steel in quality. Only the ore was worse. Refer to
arabs dont come from ASSYRIA YOU FUCKINGMONGOLOID, fuck you arabs are the strongest warrior race and philosophers and WE INVENTED NUMBERS. fuck off we dominated u persians we own u you are a part of our culture now we culurally annexed ur fuking ass zoroastrian culture is dead. fuck you arabs rule
More folding is only good when your steel is low quality like the japanese had.
If you already have a good flexible steel, folding is not going to do anything except give it a laminated look. If anything overfolding would only disrupt the crystalline structures, you know the thing you want to infuse in there by folding shit metal.
Please don't talk about a subject you have no idea on. Makes you look retarded.
Wrong. The higher end European swords were folded. Refer to You have a pop culture understanding of swords. Stop talking.
that looks like the swords they made in cina or like 10 century japan, how the fuck is that even a katana when it has none of the parts of a katana? ??? even the place where u hold the weapon doesnt look like a katana
no it doesnt you retard, nunchucks are a great weapon to hurt yourself with, thats the kind fo weapon you wouldnt want to bring in a place like brazil
literal sand ape chimping out.
your culture is nothing but an embarrassing bastardization of your surrounding betters. Your religion, your "science", your "art". Judaic, European, Persian. In fact, the smartest and most successful adherents of your stupid disgusting religion are not even arabic, even mongols did better than you. You're valueless fat violent idiots. And whenever you move to a western nation, you do your darndest to act like blacks or italians, absolute valueless people.
NO SHIT YU IDIOT STOP CLAIMING UR SOME EXPERT WITH UR ENTRY LEVEL MCDONALDS TIER KNOWLEDGE YOU WIKIPEDIA READING LIL WEEBERU ZOOMER SHIT hahahha
that's fucking retarded and that user has no idea what good quality is.
The Japanese produced good hard steel, which can hold an edge but is brittle, they had to wrap it in soft steel for strength. The folding is done to smack out impurities and because there are a lot from their tamahagane, they had to fold a lot.
Its a compromise due to lack of knowledge on producing quality ductile steel, you know the ones Europeans and Mainland Asians had for centuries.
Its a furnace, not a blast furnace.
It can't melt steel properly thus leading to a product with inconsistent properties.
they didnt have the same advanced techniques as us in creating heat and continuing it thats why their metal is less pure we had like 20 different cultures in a similiarish area all learning from eachother while japan was very isolated even from china in those days but they learned to cfraete the
Folded when it needed too.
When they had access to different kinds of ingots, they just used laminated materials, eliminating the need for folding in most cases.
You fucktard have the understanding of an ignorant retarded contrarian nerd who has never looked into the topic instead relies on other ignorant morons.
hahhaha if thats true, then why are u sucking arab cock today you persian tranny
really italians? way to invalidate yourself retard. go away jew
You don't produce steel that is either hard nor soft. That's determined by heat treatment. Japanese used differentially hardened swords.
The dunning kruger effect is running wild in this thread. I wish I could press a button that would painfully kill everyone who speaks about a subject they don't understand.
>When they had access to different kinds of ingots, they just used laminated material
Lamination requires folding. It LITERALLY means folding multiple steels together.
LOL i bet he feels stupid now.... if he had any shame
YIKES
NO THEY USE OBSIDIAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! unless u live in some shithole
With quality steel minimal folding is required, just welding the pieces is enough.
Further down the medieval ear swords and armors were mostly made with a single homogeneous material due to the quality of the available steel.
I'm English.
And i wish i could punch the mouths of ignorant mongoloids like you. There are such things as hard and soft steel, which are know as low carbon and high carbon, each with their own properties.
The japanese used different hardening methods, but their material is just that. Hard, their steel had very low ductility making it brittle, thus requiring the use of the jacketing.
You can't introduce ductility nor completely alter the carbon in the steel while forging, because the would require the piece to completely melt.
Don't act high and might when all you know amounts to jack and his sister shit.
Stop posting. Why do you continue? Just stop.
Why do you? You have nothing worth nothing to say.
What a fucking autistic spas.
So owning a katana makes me a weeb?
it's more related to the bend of the blade and the grip tho
yeah english, is there any more kiked people on earth than th e fucking british? the creators of america and every fucking hellish colonial nation, u let those fucking animals run free ruining the world and then u let those americunts and australian bastards go free. fuck britain you people are alredy paying the heavy cost. the fines have been levied and you will eat shit in due time. for now just watch ur friends n family go to hell, your turn is soon.
Depends on what you do with it and what you look like.
"weeb" is in front of "incel" in terms of most meaningless insults
Why would you want to own an actual katana? I'd be fucking terrified to own such a thing.

he didn't. it's mentioned in the German wiki article but apparently not in the English.

Real shit will run you about $1,200 to start
However if you want something more durable than the real shit and don't mind that it's made by gaijin Kriscutlery makes a good quality sword. Best you can get under $300. Great sword with plain fittings.
kriscutlery.com
Paul chen is prettier but the blade is way crappier. It's serviceable though
Cold steel is a very good quality blade with beautiful fittings as well, but they start at $500. You are paying for the fittings
that's a product i could do without knowing.
thnsanon.
Kris Cutlery's "katana 27" is literally the exact same shit as the Hanwei Practical, but more expensive - and with no tameshigiri-geometry option. They're both 60% carbon. Hanwei Practical hamon is clay-formed, dunno what that Kris shit uses but it's not clay (probably slack hardening.)
Uhh, sorry, I mean .60% carbon.
every time i read damascus steel it makes me ree
it's pattern welded steel, not damascus. Damascus steel comes from Damascus in Syria
>Damascus steel comes from Damascus in Syria
Actually it comes from India. "Damascus Steel" is a pattern welded steel, but its a distinct steel that no one knows how to accurately reproduce. Nowadays most people use the term damascus to describe any pattern welded piece.
I don't know where you got your information about "European" swords but stating such generalizations is disingenuous.
European swordsmithing techniques were extremely advanced at the time of the Katana, and utilized folding and twisting techniques to attain very light, flexible blades with hardened edges and soft cores.
You can't trust the accounts of one person who most likely was issued Fisher Price mass produced single forged hardened blades to inform you about the state of smithing in an entire part of the world.
Japanese katanas were fucking good because they were all crafted with care. They were exclusively status symbols because of the arduous process to create them from Japanese shit iron or the sheer cost of using extremely expensive Chinese ore.
Every motherfucker in Europe could own a sword due to widespread access to cheap iron, but that doesn't mean all European swords were the same. It's a huge area with many cultures and techniques employed over thousands of years.
That's a fucking lie. Japanese armor was made from both iron and leather including chainmail during the middle ages and forward.
You're not going to bring a sword to defeat armor, in war the katana was used as a sidearm for dueling and close combat. A cheap spear was both better and cheaper for the purpose.
The katana wouldn't have faced armored opponents off the battlefield, and even during combat against armored opponents you wouldn't be swinging for the protected parts. That being said, both European and Japanese swords are equally capable of slicing through inadequate protection, leather scales and even chainmail can be defeated even if the links are undamaged.
so you bought a $20 katana
> and utilized folding and twisting techniques to attain very light, flexible blades with hardened edges and soft cores.
This is just a lie, sorry. European swords absolutely were not differentially hardened.
>and even chainmail can be defeated even if the links are undamaged.

So are you saying that all European swords are exactly the same and there's absolutely so chance that even a single Smith in the entire region over several thousands of years thought "man these swords are fucking terrible"? Sword smithing isn't magic my dude.
Yes, enough force will break your bones and cut your skin. Even if it's dampened by layers of chain and gambeson. Watch the video dingus.
Police exist to generate revenue and if they see and offense that'll do that they will be on your ass
Am I psychic to know that there was no European smith in history who ever did differential clay hardening? No, I just know that there are zero cases of european swords like that, while virtually every katana was done that way.
That's crazy. In Texas a law was passed to allow any sized blade. I could walk around with dragon Slayer and no one could tell me shit

You are overblowing the average intelligence of an officer of the law.
How to make true Damascus steel was lost to time. What a waste

I suggest you do the same.

A two handed machete?
not OP, I bought a straight sword and it's the best buy I have ever done. I swing that sword everyday and I got fit
why the fuck are katanas so expensive? You can get a very good straight sword for 300$
Time and effort to make something look good.
The process of sharpening the blade alone is consider art, it take years to do it, of course it not cheap user

I'm a straight follower of the most Holy and Righteous Allah though.

You can get a very good "full tang" (as he puts it, like this is an indicator of quality lmao) katana for $230. Don't listen to any retard who tries to sound like an expert. "ful
how much does a bow + various equipment cost?
i tried it for a week and i had fun.
none of that carbon triple bowstring bullshit obviously, just a wooden bow with a thingy that helped with keeping the arrow in the correct position
That really depends. "a bow" of dubious quality can cost next to nothing. What you're thinking about is probably some high-end sports bow which can cost you like 100$+, maybe 150$+ with aditional equipment.
Splatoon inspired me to try squid. It's fucking rubber.
Resident evil 2 remake convinced me to buy one of these, so yes.

Bemusingly enough katanas build in the traditional manner hammon and folded patten steel etc are actually no better functionally than $100 cheap modern katanas. Modern spring steel renders the old techniques largely obsolete.
fucking fatass mutt
>150 bucks or so
honestly not too bad, i expected worse
what i used looked pretty much like pic related for reference
for around 200 dollars you can get a decent real sword, any less and its probably fake
and if you are willing to spend around 2 grand you can get a sword thats been folded 1000 times to make it stronger (you'd want one of these direct from japan)
That's chea-ass tier actually, you should be able to find one of those for less than 100$
What's the draw weight? I find most modern bows are rather week spot bows compared to historical examples.
Ask yourself this: How many knights in plate armour do you really need to take down with it these days?
thats totally a metal bat. you even hear some yell he has a bat
been a while but i recall 66.
consider that i'm a weak ass wimp and were shooting not too far targets, since the course also had kids
I maintain that *unsheathes katana* is the pinnacle of esoteric humour
It's not the same you are not getting the real deal nor getting the feel for how it really behaved. You might as well have a plastic toy bow.
60s a good starter bow point from what I'm told.
Metal Gear and New Vegas inspired me to buy a big iron
Spears are the most important weapon in human history, prove me wrong.
yeah because melee fights are just about swinging swords and not wrestling the enemy to the ground or kicking him until you can stab him a few times and leave him to die
Bows.
All neolithic and early bronze age warfare are dipicted being fought with bows.
Buy a good chef's knife instead. You'll actually use it if you're a decent adult, this will prompt you to maintain and take care of it because you'll actually feel when it needs some love.
Based and backstabbed.
Have sex
Do you think that battles devolved into everyone rolling on the ground when horses and multiple people were involved?
Most katanas/longswords are under 3 lbs. Even the largest greatswords are really only about 6 or 7 lbs.
>102 kills, 0 losses
Is the F-15 the finest weapon ever made?
no, they were small skirmishes where people rolled on the ground and tried to overpower the enemy, if not possible they would retreat to catch their breath and support other groups.
Battles would last for days and were not fencing if that is what you are implying. When you are trying to kill other people you don't think what's the correct move to counter his sword position and stab him to the correct artery, you do what you can and must to kill the other, wait for openings and try to hold him with a buddy or knock him to the ground and stab him and then do the same to others no matter what but you just kill that guy and if someone is trying to do the same to you, you do whatever you can to stop him and that is trying to hold his weapon arm to not give him the chance to stab you and wrestle him to the ground etc.
Cars. I bought a Protege5 5door hatch as I became incredibly found of'em from rally racing way back in Gran Turismo 2. no regrets I would even go as far as saying its influenced my way of driving
lol, that's a flea market sword.
Is the Hanwei Lowlander the only good greatsword under 500$? Dark Souls really made me appreciate these beauties. No way I can afford an Albion.
buy a tanto and commit seppuku
I have a solution for you
God speed you magnificent bastard
Yeah it's alright looks the part and comes sharp. The problem is its screwed pommel and very floppy. It works but it will come lose over time forcing you to tighten it. Mine has a slight gap between handle and pommel so it moves a little. Not a lot but enough to put you off.plus it can be disassembled meaning I'm not willing to fix the gap to lose that option.
For 300 doller you can't complain but be aware it's not as battle ready as it seems and always a chance its gonna give out with the handle construction. But if you want a big sword it's a good starter always worth mentioning is the windlass claymore is pretty good from what I'm told.
If you're going to actually go and buy a katana of all things might as well have it be authentic. It's not like you'll actually use it.
Define authentic?
you mean one made in Japan by a traditional Smith that will cost well over 2000 dollers?
who doesn't
Tamahagane katana cost $10,000+.
>It's not like you'll actually use it.
Speak for yourself, fatass.
>real nice katana
What does that even mean? Nice for actual combat? Nice for cutting water bottles? Nice as in pretty to look at?
>they were a good weapon for thier purpose in japanese warfare
You don't need much to cut down peasants.
Do you think European swords were used for some other purpose? Lol.
If i had money to burn i'd totally buy a nice Katana. They are just so pretty.
wow
Should of been a centre grip shield table. Then you could keep the home invader away at arms length rather than elbows.
Of course, they were excellent for throwing the pommel at people.
