It just wouldn't appeal to mass audience if it had turn based combat

it just wouldn't appeal to mass audience if it had turn based combat,

admit it, it's a thing of the past, we are not limited by the hardware anymore to use this outdated gameplay style

Attached: Final-Fantasy-7-Remake-development-status.jpg (1280x720, 482K)

how is KH combat any better?

yeah because people really seem to positively receive XV for it's modern combat

Attached: 1552623499659.png (1920x1080, 1.41M)

cuz it's fun, nobody except boomers want to wait to attack, why not go and play board games instead?

lotta zoomers love Persona 5 though

It was just badly designed, kh has way better combat even though it's very similar

Turn-based games are still popular and get made on the regular. See for example XCOM, Endless Space, Civilization, Fire Emblem, Super Robot Wars, Disgaea etc.

Classic JRPG type battle systems are absolute dogshit though (especially the ATB ones that weren't proper turn-based) and are 100% a product of design limitations, which is why that battle system has disappeared from HD JRPGs. No one likes that garbage. No one likes fixed camera angles either, and thankfully the remake does away with that cancer too so you can look around properly in Midgar.

Yea man enix is really fucking up. It’s obvious people don’t give a shit about turn-based combat. Just look at P5 and DQ11. P5 especially since it did so damn well in the states. If Enix made FF 16 turn based combat with a spin, and throw in all their expert visuals, it would sell like fuggin hotcakes

Eh who gives a shit it's never coming out and FFVII is quite literally the most overrated game to ever exist so fuck everyone involved

Turn based RPGs aren't like that because of hardware limitations.
Turn based RPGs and action RPGs were born at the same time, and they have been growing at the same time, what Square did with FF is change the gender of their franchise, Persona 5 is still more fun to play than FFXV.

>No one likes fixed camera angles either
There are tons of people that like that.

>P5
it only did well in the states cuz of muuuh waifus and ironic weeb culture

FF13 was turn based and it was fun, way more fun than 15.

What happened to cause people to hate turn based combat? I never understood this. I always enjoyed Turn Based Combat when it is done well. I don't know why people would take horrible combat like FF15 over tactical turn based stuff. Hell, even classic games like Baulder's Gate, Icewind Dale, and Arcana (yes, I know it has a pseduo turn based mode) would be FAR SUPERIOR with turn based combat instead of fucking god awful real time with pause. New RPGs that are being made like Pillars of Eternity, Tyranny, and others would ALSO be better with turn based combat. Real Time with Pause is honestly the worst combat system in RPGs. It is fucking atrocious.

>game gets open world 20 hours in
>fun

>im a big fan of ff7
>what? no i hate turn based video games

>still clinging to the open world meme
I thought we were past this shit already

100% agree. I haven’t played P5, but I’ve been playing dq 11 so same shit really, but I beat FFXV a month ago, and i’m having wayyyyyy more fun with dq11. FFXV is such a fucking mess. I’m very worried about the ff7 remake (if it even comes out)

>create mass appeal with turn based combat
>change it for no reason
>it wouldn't have mass appeal with turn based combat

i hate jrpg devs

Wrong. Turn based is actually way more appealing to the masses because it has a lower barrier to entry. You don't have to twitch just right to win, you can just grind and look up a strategy.

Dragon Quest 11 uses classic JRPG combat and it is far superior to ANY recent Final Fantasy game. So, really, you're just wrong. The only thing that should have been changed in an FF7 remaster was the camera, which was terrible (but as you said, was due to engine limitations). Aside from that FF7's combat system is totally fine. Maybe you can throw in some sort of way to speed up battles versus the small mooks, but versus tougher enemies and bosses it is way better than FF15's hold attack button to win nonsense.

turn based combat requires patience to start enjoying it, action combat gives you an instant gratification

Lol yea dude, no one buys game for gameplay

it wouldn't have 'casual faggot who plays nothing but sports games and FPS' appeal

I agree. And I say that as someone who owns the entire Compilation, and maybe reads too much FF7 fanfiction.

Dat strawman. Peoples complaints about XV are many, and it still sold better/faster than any FF in recent memory. If it had actually bombed you might have a leg to stand on with that argument.

FFXV-kun is here

>Nobody except boomers want to wait to attack
That's literally every KH2FM superboss on critical

Turn based isn't the problem. It's that FF was always kinda shit at it. They were nice for the atmosphere but mechanically I'd rather play something like Etrian Odyssey any day

that is true for Persona series, the combat is tedious and a pain in the ass to go through, everyone plays it only for novel parts

they should have just remade it on psp/vita/3ds with the crisis core engine.
this is too expensive of a project for nu-sqeenix

>Sales = Quality
Get out newfag

What the fuck no, the combat is one of the best parts of the game. Have you ever even talked with someone who liked it because it doesn't seem like you have

>remake on a little tiny screen
fuck off and kill yourself

>it's never coming out
This guy gets it

tell me, what is so fucking hard about making the same game again but with update graphics? the niggers don't even have to worry about voice acting since the original game had none

Attached: 1545791611872.jpg (960x1280, 283K)

>playing long rpgs on console/pc
some of us have lives faggot

They like it for the porn not the gameplay

>same game again but with update graphics
no point in remaking then, look at RE2, the game is way better than the original cuz they modernized the gameplay

>limited by the hardware meme
>too young to remember Crystalis or Rygar
fuck off dumb baby

tell me when FF13 got you enamored with its environments and setting

It would be so fucking perfect to have the exact same game but with better graphics, no changes in combat, added voice acting or anything, just make the same game, add better graphics and make new CGI cutscenes. We would have played the game already and it would have been awesome, instead we're stuck waiting forever for something that will most likely be shit.

>mass audience
Pokemon begs to differ

The japanese are the 'mass audience' in question here and they wont mind turnbased combat at all

you need to be 18 years or older to post here

Then why did Bravely Default and Octopath do so well?

>if the next Final Fantasy is turn based I won't buy it
SAID NO ONE EVER

Reminder the vast majority of the modern group of people who claim to "love FFVII" have never actually played the game and have just absorbed the gist of it through cultural osmosis and those awful Compilation pieces

just play the original game if you want turn based combat you retards, the point of a remake is to give it a new life and make it better for a new audience, what is the point of making the same game again???

You're right and have a very solid argument. I'm glad you're their spokesman.

You know it's just gonna be a reskinned 15, don't lie to yourself.

>what's the point of a remaster which is the same game but better resolution/textures/etc

I've probably been here longer than you, to my shame and eternal sorrow. But yeah, sadly, as far the suits are concerned, thats the deal. Future FFs will take notes from XV's 'success'.

This will be Nomura Fantasy 7.
It does not have the fundamental style of the original: anime like the art and models suggested.
And it does not have the gameplay.

The problem is that its combat will have more mass market appeal.
Its visuals will have more mass market appeal.
Just like the Fabula Nova Crystallis series, calling it "Final Fantasy" carries with it the name recognition that will increase sales.

I'm pretty hyped to see how pozzed it is for modern western audiences

The part with
>STEEEEP INTO THE RAAAINBOOWWW
was nice, that's about it, didn't get too far but that was a pretty area, besto theme too

This. Turn based fags will just say muh pokemon, muh Persona. Despite the fact that the appeal of both games are not the combat system. Heck P5 has hardly any combat in it. Just mindlessly reading dialogues after dialogues and waifus dating. Pokemon in the other hand is the monster collecting. Believe me, if both series suddenly went action combat, it will sell crazy numbers. If the combat's done properly and balanced. Unlike XV's hold one button shit. Thanks Tabata. tfw "one hand" Tabata literally is making a new game about the disabled. top kek. The memes are just writing itself.

I've been a really big FF fan for most if my life and I'm really conflicted with what the combat should be like going foward. I definitely think that turn based/atb is not a good idea for the series without some sort of major overhaul. On the other hand full action combat just wouldn't be FF anymore. Kh combat is a good middle ground and is fine for VIIR but I'd like to see them do something new and innovative for XVI or whatever the next AAA FF is. I unironically that XIII was a step in the right direction, and if I were them I'd build off of that but try to give the player more of an incentive to not use auto, and giving the player more control on the rest of their party.

Almost no one ever discussed about gameplay in any Persona thread. It's either how cool the character and menu design, music is. The story or the school life element. No one is praising it for the combat.

The problem with modern Final Fantasy is that it's trying to conform to what's popular instead of just being what's popular

>says gameplay
>backtracks to combat
Keep moving it, retard

See pic related
Almost all of my friends play persona and I've never heard a single one of them discuss the gameplay.

Attached: 38043101335_db8d53849b_o.0.jpg (1200x675, 62K)

That doesn't mean people who like it don't exist.

>it just wouldn't appeal to mass audience
couldn't care less

He obviously ment the turn-based combat as in the gameplay as in the same shit you were discussing you neanderthal

I'm sorry, but your friends are retarded. Beat them up for me.

>Turn based RPGs and action RPGs were born at the same time

That's quite the statement, my dude. What action RPGs were there when Ultima released?

What other gameplay does the game have? Reading dialogue isn't gameplay.

The reason why I stopped playing turn-based JRPGs in the last few years is because NONE have static cameras anymore, I just fucking absolutely hate "dynamic" combat camera shifting all the time making it annoying and much less comfy

Obviously not because I wasn't that user you shit flinging nigger.

Temple of Asphai

>outdated gameplay style

I am not saying you are wrong but yeah, you are wrong. Turn based RPGs are still the best kind of RPGs. Ni no Kuni was the best JRPG of last gen while DQ XI is the best JRPG of this gen. Heck, the best WRPG this gen is a fucking TRPG, namely Divinity original sin 2.
If you think about the PS1 and PS2 eras, which are without a doubt the golden age of JRPGs, there where tons of variants to the turn battle system. Vagrant Story doesn´t play anything like Valkyrie profile or Shadow Hearts or Legend of Dragoon or any of the FF games.

ARPGs are not bad but there are less variables and tactical control as a lot depends on the AIs and the gameplay is somewhat simplified. These are not bad but by no means their existence implyies turn based games are obsolete.

>Fags STILL crying to Square Enix for their Unreal Engine Demo

holy fucking SHIT kill Y O U R S E L F

While I would still call it a (albeit timed) turn based RPG, you might have a point. I also didn't know of the game, so I guess you win.

>it just wouldn't appeal to mass audience if it had turn based combat

Pokemon has turn based combat and it has the most mass appeal of anything ever.

based

>AAH THE COMBAT, IT'S VERY SIMPLE BUT WHEN IT WORKS, IT FEELS VERY WEIGHTY AND BADASS KEEP SAYIN IT

Attached: dunk.jpg (225x225, 11K)

You know that's not an argument right

>look at RE2, the game is way better than the original cuz they modernized the gameplay

That´s some quality bait you´ve got there boy. [you] did good.
