Depends on the language
They're alright characters who speaks like normal people in japanese but in english they're cringy walking puns dictionary who most of the time reacts to events around them like machines

meh but they are bros

I thought so. I miss them and enjoyed the game just because of them

They're well conceptualized but poorly written. They'd be great in a game with an actual plot.

Yes. They are the best thing about XV

In the story they're kinda bipolar

Do you understand Japanese fluently or were you reading the subtitles?

This. Holy fuck the quips were never ending just shut the fuck up

I fucking hate retarded weebs

Never played it, but I've played FF6 through FFX, and on that assumption alone, I'd say no.
On a side note, very little characters in Japanese vidya seem very well written to me. Not that it's too bad for vidya, it's for entertainment anyhows(anime tier writing, is, let's facee it, just not very good, but I guess it isn't meant to be). Suikoden 2 springs to mind as being particularly good though.
But most of the time it's too cringey, too overly complex, and in 80%+, it simply too plain stupid.

not really

They were the only good thing about FFXV, but they still sounded like a walking sitcom.People don't speak to one another like Noctis' crew do.

>the cool one
>the tough one
>the smart one
>the silly one
They were walking tropes for sure

You're retarded an probably don't know Japanese.
youtu.be/oJ4NpOfr2wE?t=855

I understand it enough to know that the german and french dubs were based on the japanese one instead of english, and french i understand better. In those dubs there is nothing close to the "i sea it too" "it certainly nose how to find us" "take care of the car and it will take care of us" shit that's going on in english. Noctis actually reacts excited for the shit he sees for the first time since he's been closed up in the royal city for all his life, while in english all he does is spill some cooked up phrase

I dunno if I’d say well written but they carried me through the game. I enjoyed their presence and felt sad when they get angry at each other or left at some point. Hell I even felt more sadness at the car being destroyed then Luna’s death.

Gladio was all 4 of those

I hated them in the beginning but they kinda grew on me to more I played. Really wish the game wasn't such a fucking trash fire abortion bucket.

puns are objectively and undeniably reddit

absolutely not

Are you calling noctis the cool one?
He is a fucking nerd that likes fishing a little bit too much

none of their dialogue felt natural. I was very aware that they were characters. Didn’t feel human to me

itt Yea Forums doesnt know what well written means

itr, user doesn't know what subjectivity is

>he is a fucking nerd
nah

you can like them but that doesn't mean they're even remotely good

Never forget

What the fuck does this even mean?

youtube.com/watch?v=y_Jd4y7JO2I

It felt okay. I think Yea Forums only feels it’s weird because they don’t actually have any friends in real life to go on road trips and bant with.

Banting is one thing but they couldn’t go 2 lines of dialogue without making a “witty” quip

>zero self awareness
The irony. This is the exact type of game that friendless people would enjoy and like, user.

I think they failed at what they set out to do because the game kept TELLING me that these 4 were best friends but I never once FELT it

This. XIV did a better job conveying Noctis' feelings for his friends and they weren't even fucking there.

I think it depends on what you consider well written written, and what you value in characters
Some people would say that being well written means that the character is believable and that they interact with other characters in a consistent manner and that we know a lot about their hobbies, like, dislikes, etc.
These are the kind of people who would refer to the XV cast as "well written".
Some people however would define a character as a character with clearly defined ideals, ambitions, and morals that are consistent with their actions within the story.
These kinds of people would say that the XV cast is poorly written.
It's about what you value. They're interactions are good if you're into that but everything else leads a lot to be desired.

They are ok at best, AFTER the DLC and extra content. The base-gamed itself they're easily the worst FF cast, including the one-dimensional characters from the 1-3 era.

Ignis sure as hell is. If he wasn't a ride or die, I don't know who is

>MUH PRINCE
>well-written
You people have some very low standards.

>le new recipe man
Nah he sucked

Need a game like FFXV but its only droving around the world fishing/ hunting with the boys. No homo of course

>hottopic boyband
no

>Noctis shirt actually has little skulls on it
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Their characters and dynamic are better than their quest and the game's story, but I don't know how much of my judgement is because of how subpar XV is.

>character is believable and that they interact with other characters in a consistent manner and that we know a lot about their hobbies, like, dislikes
>character with clearly defined ideals, ambitions, and morals that are consistent with their actions within the story.
Why can't we have both?

Plus, the presence of the latter will naturally lead into the former, so I think XV failed on both fronts.

Bro, I quip with my friends all the time. I don’t think we ever hang out where we don’t crack jokes with each other. Seriously, do you guys have any male friends you hang out with consistently?

you’re posts are written as believably as the characters of this shit game.
you don’t have friends, you never leave the house.

There’s banter and joking with friends and then there’s unnatural, made in a factory, quip by the numbers, manufactured dialogue

No. The only thing they had going for them was the banter that got old after a few hours.
Barely any of them get actual development in the main game. Their dlc episodes don't really improve the characters all that much, but it's something I guess

localization was a mistake

Nobody is saying that it's bad that they crack jokes, user, it's that the jokes are forced, awkward, and funny. They're like lizards trying to replicate human interaction instead of people who have been properly socialized since birth and know how to properly maintain the flow of conversation.

I mean for fuck's sake
These characters are literally plebbit personified.

No.

>funny
unfunny* obv fuck you

I love ALL my boys. As a group they’re all well written and joke around as real friends would, because that’s what they are. Anyone who thinks their dialogue/quips/whatever are cringey probably don’t have friends they hang out with often.

Gladio > the rest

doubling down i see

Doubling down on your bussy, boi

I prefer English voices because English voice actors make things believable, Asian voice acting is always overdone and you'll never hear a Japanese person actually speaking like an anime character with all their insane tone swings that go up and down and up and down like can you calm the fuck down with your voice

The Jap cast for XV is pretty tame actually, minus Prompto. Prompto is obnoxious irregardless of language.

Bruh. Reddit is super normie tier. Seriously, you guys need to hang out with college age people a bit more. Especially African American males. Clowning and saying stood shit is on par for the course. You guys just aren’t normie enough.
Seriously, give me some examples of unnatural dialogue.

>Why can't we have both?
You can, I never said they were mutually exclusive, just that generally people tend to prefer one or the other which leads to discrepancies in opinions in what is or isn't good writing.

Reminder, these things are demanded from up top because Square is run by fucking retards. Their localization/translation teams are actually some of the best in the entire industry, but they make stupid demands like "give everyone accents in Dragon Quest" and "add more memes."

Some of it is on the localizers, but the vast majority is corporate interference. Same reason 13's translation is so extremely literal.

t. friendless virgin

Name ONE black man that would say half the shit that spews out of Prompto's mouth

Attached: OH.EM.GEE.png (1249x643, 1.11M)

Projecting are we?

You've never met a black weeaboo, huh?

Man, stop reminding me of FFX. The way Tidus was written, just, why. Very good concept, good world, but fucked up due to writing.

Hell yeah they were. Reminded me of my crew in high school. They probably non homosexually jerked each other off and tag teamed gladios sister while he watched
