aclighthouse.com/articles/interview-kazutoki-kono-pax-south-2019 >In games and books from series' past, there are references to unseen conflicts in the 1900s of Strangereal. Some Ace Combat games featured famous World War II-era aircraft as a part of their aircraft list as well. Has there ever been talk of a making a World War II-era Ace Combat game using propeller-driven aircraft?
>Even now, Producer Shimomoto frequently proposes ideas. We definitely have staff that want to make one within the development team. However, we, Project ACES is a much smaller team than what you imagine. We have our hands full with just 7 and the season pass.
What planes do you want to see if they finally make it?
Can we leave WWII alone again? Can we not have a game where a bunch of japanese pre teens are calling Stalin an evil ancient dragon? Can we leave WWII planes alone because Gaijin already fucked them to hell and back?
I want a 1970s/80s game at the height of the Belkan Air Force where we invade our neighbors. I'm tired of games where hostile nation invades and attacks the last airbase standing with a flight of six bombers
I know. I went back to War Thunder and I forgot if you want to play with hotas or gamepad your options are Sim Battles, or getting your ass handed to you with m+kB players in Arcade and Realistic. And Sim Battles is basically >take off >fly around for half an hour looking for a target >get shot down by an enemy you didn't see because you didn't hunt the pixel hard enough I just wanna swoop around and shoot down sky bandits.
That’s not the He 178 and the jet engine the Brits used was already outdated when the Germans invented the axial flow jet engines, used in any jet today.
WW1 and 2 were great times to be a designer since people still didn't quite know what was optimal yet and people tested all sorts of crazy fucking designs because we didn't quite know how well it would work yet til it failed.
Noah Gray
>I just wanna swoop around and shoot down sky bandits. play World of Warplens then. Or Blazing Angels.
Ryan Kelly
>World of Warplens Isn't it deader than dead?
Justin Davis
Honestly I just want something like Ace Combat, with real planes but a fictional world. Kotobuki would unironically make a good game of that type but I imagine that any game they do make of it is going to be a cheap cash in, and probably not even a plane game.
Nathaniel Brooks
the best part of ace combat are the fighter jets and futuristic original planes, WW2 would ruin that
Carter Evans
WW2 had a metric fucking tons of strange ass prototypes, it's a pretty good setting for a game like Ace Combat
Well, considering how Strangereal handles planes, the Oseans might fly Bf 109s too, and Belkans might fly P-51s. Strangereal planes don't seem to be restricted by country like they are in the real world.
Ryan Long
>I want a 1970s/80s game at the height of the Belkan Air Force where we invade our neighbors. Isn't that what Zero was?
Dominic Murphy
There are already plenty of realistic plane games. AC should always be arcade. Play IL-2 if you want realism.
It's actually pretty frustrating that arcade plane games are so rare.
Yes because a game set in 1995 with 5th gen planes is totally the same as the cold war
Caleb Nelson
>Belkans fight world war with a giant wood golem that throws boulders
Caleb Collins
>Honestly I just want something like Ace Combat, with real planes but a fictional world. I'm not the guy you're quoting, but I really want that too. When I picked up AC5 on a whim all those years ago, I thought the fictional-world thing was a little weird, but once I got used to it, I found that I really, really liked it. It lets you be more creative with the story and you don't have real-world baggage to deal with. I actually wouldn't want to play something set in the real world, even if it had the same gameplay as AC.
Yeah, at first I wondered how they could do superweapons in a WWII setting, but then I remembered that the Nazis built all kinds of weird crap.
Because ACM is awesome but jets and BVR weapons have made it completely obsolete.
It’s like asking why there’s so many games with swords when guns are clearly superior. The obsolete thing is more romantic.
Juan Cox
Give me old French planes.
There's something truly unique about French jet fighters, probably related to engineering techniques or something. You can see it with the Rafale, you can see it with the various Mirage models, and even with the Concorde. So much underratedness.
GuP got a couple of actual console games, didn’t it? Although GuP is much bigger.
Easton Hernandez
GuP got two versions of the same game, and it's alright. Not great, but good enough. Could use a bit of polish. A Kotobuki game made by Aces would be the best though.
Camden Morales
It would be something different, I guess. It could be fun. I prefer jets, though. I played a lot of old WWII sims when I was a kid, so I'm sort of burned out on prop planes.
>Because ACM is awesome but jets and BVR weapons have made it completely obsolete. Maybe in the real world, but AC doesn't have to follow those rules, and it never has. It would be boring if it did.
What if you had your wingmen fly up along side you and just yell at you whenever they needed to say something?
Joseph Foster
has this kind of flying ever even happened in an actual dogfight?
Jaxson Gomez
Alternate history WW1 with radios. Solved. I mean, Ace Combat somehow manages to have shared voice comms among not only yours and the enemy aircraft but also ground forces, news radio, and spacecraft transmissions.
Jordan Bailey
>not having then roll up and yell at you or use flags at a distance
Aiden Garcia
Two-way air-to-ground voice communication was invented 1915 or so, it just didn't see widespread use in the war.
Brandon Butler
For me, it’s the peashooter
Christopher Wilson
I loved reading about the German’s autistic designs as a kid. Unironically wished I had been born in the 20’s so I could be a Luftwaffe pilot
Joseph Edwards
No, but an accurate depiction of dogfight is boring as fuck
Camden Sanders
After I started watching this anime I started working on the Japanese tree in WT. Is the Raiden actually any good in game or am I wasting my time for nothing?
Colton Bennett
They're going to have to make shooting down planes with an MG not a pain in the ass first.
Easton Bailey
Their first idea was to make the propellers bullet proof, and let the bullets bounce off
Carter Ramirez
Solid plane, but the cannons could be a lot better. It’s not much of a turn fighter, tho
Adrian Gomez
Seems like too much chance of the bullets bouncing into the pilot or the plane itself, or just being distracting as hell to the pilot. Did they not try putting the guns in the wings like WWII fighters did?
Jackson Collins
Yeah, this is what I foresee being the issue. Especially as a console game, playing WT with a controller makes hitting shit with your guns fucking tricky. It's pretty difficult in AC7 as well, although I did notice going straight from 7 to 5 that AC5's flight model makes strafing stuff much easier, for some reason. Less twitchy. It'll probably come down to making adjusting your trajectory when aiming more smooth. That, or give guns more of a cone of fire and let it be a bit more forgiving registering hits.
Robert Mitchell
That seems like what it was in the show, funnily enough. I'm still really shit at maneuvering though so I'll probably struggle with it anyway.
Zachary Wood
That would still mean no wingman chatter. Alternate history with radios would probably be the way to go. Strangereal tech doesn't always match up 1:1 with ours anyway.
Evan Rogers
The first Raiden(J2M2) is pretty good, the rest are kind of overtiered
Julian Thomas
>add post stall maneuvers >make the next game not have them
Nolan Walker
That's one of the reasons I prefer fictional settings - you can take more liberties with things like that and not have it seem too contrived.
Colton Walker
Why not just have it anyway? I wouldn't care if it's unrealistic, drifting warplanes would be cool.
David Martin
I wonder, has anyone ever tried to mod any of the sims on PC to make them more AC-like?
There's some PC games that try to replicate the AC feel, like project wingman or similar. I think half the deal with Ace Combat though is the story and music, all the stuff around the gameplay, that would be hard to mod into a sim.
Parker Watson
>We have our hands full with just 7 and the season pass.
I figured it was a long shot, but I figured I might as well ask. I don't know what kind of tools or editors those sims usually have, so yeah, I don't know how much story or music you could add. You could do that kind of thing with Freespace 2's editor, but it obviously doesn't have atmospheric flight mechanics.
Modding capability was why I was really hoping Vector Thrust would do better than it did. There aren't a lot of jet games with AC's kind of gameplay, but if people could use VT to make their own campaigns, that would have helped fill the void. Guess I'll have to just hope that Project Wingman eventually gets an editor or FS2 gets a fighter jet mod.
Grayson Bennett
fuck ww2, most overused setting ever.
gimme a electrosphere sequel where you fly through space
Jose Flores
>chase dude >dude levels out and flies straight like an idiot >have him dead to rights >just sit with the him in your crosshair for several seconds >only shoot when he moves out of it Everything I see about this anime looks terrible.
Luke Lopez
>chase dude These 3 are on the same side, user.
Jace Hall
>posting the Based Lerche My man. As soon as I get my new laptop I'm sticking 1946 on it so I can fly that crazy plane.
To be fair that's how I normally fly, except instead of not shooting I'd be spraying bullets in the general direction of the guy and missing every shot.
Liam Cruz
thats a really nice picture user. are those me110 or something else?
Ok then, the Gloster Meteor still isn’t the first jet fighter, that’s the He 180/280
Oliver Sullivan
I'm not sure you grasp the point of ace combat user
Andrew Price
He was probably referring more to the real world, where BVR and stealth are the name of the game. Modern doctrine says that if you're in a dogfight at all, you've already fucked up.
Michael Davis
boring. just make an ace combat meets star wars with x-wings and shit. we're already half way there with the TLS and PSLS and EMC loadouts.
Luis Gonzalez
>just make an ace combat meets star wars with x-wings and shit.
