I am probably the greatest rogue ever of all time in classic, here is my guide to playing rogue.
1) World PVP - If you see any PC in the game that is at least 5 levels below you, alone and questing; you gotta gank. You are a rogue, this is a roleplaying game, being a dick is your character.
2) Leveling - Find a Warrior or Priest to team up wit. As soon as you have got ur items/ finished ur quest, leave them. The warrior will be fine on their own and the priest shouldn't have chosen such a stupid class. No honor among thieves.
3) Loot - Roll for everything, steal whatever you can then bam! throw dat powder in their face and disappear, block chat, back to Ironforge and throw that shit on the Auction House. We in it for the gold, not the friends.
4) PVP - Find the weakest clothy who clearly doesn't know what they are doing and gank them, repeatedly until they quit. You are a rogue, easy kills are the only kills and warfare is psychological.
5) Duelling - NEVER duel another rogue. 1: it takes forever to find each other like birdcage and 2: If they beat you and people see, then you won't be able to make the claim that you are the best rogue on the server... Its like Schroedingers rogue, every rogue is the best rogue on the server, until it is observed and the wave function collapses.
6) DPS - It is NOT your fault if you are not topping the DPS charts in a raid, its Blizzards, the lack of gear for top lvl rogues, the tanks, the healers, OP fucking pain in the ass gnome mages, never yours.

7) Sneaking - If you sneak off in a raid to poke around or pickpocket and you pull elite mobs, don't take it on the chin. Hit the sprint button and get back to the party so it's now everybody's problem. They're your group, they have sworn to protecc, they should do their damn jobs. Spend the fight healing.
8) Endgame Gear - No matter what gear you've got in the bank, your main hand is Barman Shanker. It looks cool and fuck anyone who says this game is about winning. It's not, its about having the coolest looking gear. Repeatedly bug your guild to farm the drop.
9) Raiding - If the boss does not drop anything you need or want then you are AFK for this fight. Don't misuse this downtime; browse wowhead for drops you might need in this instance and pressure the party to go kill that boss instead because its "easier than wiping on the current one".
10) IRL Drama - It is NOT enough to roleplay being a dick. You must cause real life drama by spreading rumors about other guildies, talk shit in the whispers, create friction and drama wherever you go. If you have not caused at least a guild a week to disband, you are not doing your job properly.

The fun if you could call it that is the asymmetry of classes. You had to seek out friends who could be on call to get rid of gankers for you since your class might be shit at 1v1. You also couldn't 'shard' out and avoid these dedicated gankers, so you had to be social to solve your problems.

Unlike the paladin,Warrior has 2 gap closers on a relatively short cooldown (that also stun) and many defensive CDs that dont hinder their damage, and ALSO a slow on a short cooldown that can be kept 100% unlike the paladin which only has divine shield which pretty much forbids him to unzip another CD.

As a prot warrior in classic, I would only ever lose to shadow priests whose shields would prevent me from gaining any rage before they mindcontrol me off a cliff, and the occasional mage that could freeze/blink/nuke.
I killed absolutely everything else. Theoretically, warlocks and hunters with enough room to kite me forever and aspect of cheetah on could kill me, but it never came up in practice.
That was as a prot warrior.

Druid is great and will be in short supply because of the "druid is bad" meme so getting tier and raid spots is very easy

In a group of similarly geared and skilled players this is wrong because of how weapons work for feral. If you don't want to heal as a druid you should learn how to tank as bear is actually pretty okay in some fights.

Hunter is the fastest and easiest 1-60 class in the game, priest is more desired at lvl 60 since hunters will be everywhere and their dmg is very average ontop of them being gear competition for every melee dps
The issue with priest is while the lvling is fairly safe it is very boring, you dot then auto attack with a wand most of the time

They're both equally comfy to level. Hunters just serpent sting and autoshot things to death while keeping their pets alive. Priests just Shadow Word: Pain and wand things to death while keeping themselves alive. The only difference is it takes a hunter 200 hours to hit 60 and a priest 300 hours to hit 60.

The Paladin has at least 2 piece Rank 14, various AQ pieces, Rank 14 sword and probably MC epics elsewhere. I got Rank11 back in the day and was a Gladiator in TBC/Wrath.

Classic PvP is just mind numbing boring and unbalanced.
There are legit 3 Classes that have decent kits Warrior,Rogue,Mage perhaps Hunters in PvP.Every other Class has problems either they are a Healslut,or their talent trees and playstyle is clunky and not finished.
Shamans are total Rng or a 3minute Spec,Paladins are 2 buttom spec relying on getting critted.Warlocks have no affliction talent,only Destruction is good gameplay,SL is also boring as fuck.In general Warlocks are very strong but need a lot of gear,to not get shit on by any Rogue or Warrior without a Succubus.Shadow priest also only consist as a PvP spec(maybe you have 1 in raid) that is godly in 1v1s but gets cucked just as hard by any dispells.Druids are also horrible in all specs but they actually are decent in PvP.
Classic is absolutely bullshit PvP-Wise,chucking a billion Consums and abusing Engineering to counter the horrible class design isnt fun.
I rather play Tbc with:
1.S1-4 Warriors especially with Herald
2.S1-4 SL Lock with Shadows in S1/2
3.S3-4 Druids Resto dreamstate
4.S3-4 Rogues after Sub Buff

Or any Castercleave in Woltk gcding you,or TSG training you to death.The only time that is worse than Classic PvP is S5.
