Has any other company made a better videogame run than Rare during the N64 era?
Has any other company made a better videogame run than Rare during the N64 era?
Vavle from 2006 - 2013. It was kino after kino, Half Half, Portal, Team Fortress, Left 4 Dead, Dota, Counter Strike were all classics. I miss that era as much as rare on N64
No.
You can count the late snes era too with DKC and Killer Instinct
20xx's Obsidian?
This and Clover Studios/PlatinumGames from 2006 to 2014
Bioware from 1998 to 2007. Fuck EA
>makes a game from a genre they aren’t used to
>it’s amazing
>do this several times
how’d they do it? besides a genuine passion for their work.
definite midas touch for a while
Capcom
Konami
Square
Nintendo
pretty much every big Japanese company shined bright at that time and produced a lot of classics
valve was the most overrated as fuck company possible
like 1/3 of the shit on that list are just other people's mods, the other 1/3 is just Valve adding their own graphics to other people's mods, and the rest of the 1/3 are the most overrated mediocre games possible like L4D or HL
Capcom and Konami used to be pretty good.
>Turok series
>Shadowman
>Forsaken
>Revolt
>Extreme G1 and 2
>Iggy's Reckin Balls
And then they started shitting the bed during the GC/PS2/Xbox era.
I still find it hard to believe something like DKC was churned out by a team of 10, or something people in only a matter of 18 months
They went bankrupt, didn't they?
Yeah.
Rockstar with GTA III to RDR2
Because there were no set standards. People pretend that Yooka Laylee didn't live up to Banjo, but honestly if Banjo came out today people would fucking hate it.
LucasArts (1990 - 2004)
>we will never get the timeline where Nintendo bought out rare and they continued making games for the Gamecube, Wii, and Switch
Square in the SNES-PS1 era.
Especially their PS1 era stuff. How many games did they put out between 1997-2000 that are still considered some of the best games ever made? It's unreal.
Everyone good had already left by the time Microsoft bought them. Their last Nintendo game was one of their worst (Star Fox Adventures)
Konami during the NES to the Game Boy and SNES era.
I’ll probably get on shit on for this, but FromSoftware produced 5 great games in the short span of 8 years, that’s pretty impressive considering that most sequels take like 5-7 years to be made
Acclaim was a publisher, no a developer. Plus LJN was more or less the same brand.
Retro Studios has been doing a great job since Metroid Prime.
Nobody ruined star fox adventures but whatever chuckle fuck decided to make it into a star fox game in the first place
Squaresoft had an arguably similar golden era during that time too...along with a similar downfall around the same time of the PS3/360/Wii era.
Absolutely Square Soft basically from the early 1990s all the way up to around 2000.
Wasn't that Miyamoto?
>Shadowman
Game has a great atmosphere.
>Capcom
>Konami
i think they were some good, some bad
It's a real shame thar God Hand's sales essentially shut down Clover and we'll probably never get a God Hand 2 directed by Mikami.
