>Play Unity for the first time after playing through Origins and Oddysey for a few hours before trading them in
HOLY FUCK this game controls and looks a million times better. What the fuck did they do to modern Asscreed?
>Play Unity for the first time after playing through Origins and Oddysey for a few hours before trading them in
HOLY FUCK this game controls and looks a million times better. What the fuck did they do to modern Asscreed?
its the underrated child of the series but at release it was far too buggy and unfinished (still is) because it was rushed out the door, but at its core concept its direction is much better than any other in the series.
You are actually playing an assassin game with multiple ways to play.
A Smash thread died for this shitty thread
and nothing of value was lost
If Unity had released just some months after, just in time to fix the bugs, it would have honestly be the best game of the serie.
and the serie wouldn't be a fucking rpg right now, like seriously, i really hope the assassin gameplay will return.
Yeah, parkour up/down in Unity and Syndicate is so much better. It felt like you'd almost always be locked into freerunning upwards when you wanted to, whereas in Origins and Odyssey sometimes I'd try to freerun up or climb up but then the character would accidentally leap to a lower object.
Modern day is nothing more than a crappy hunt for the pieces of Eden. Layla is much more annoying than Desmond. At least in Unity and Syndicate the modern day was just limited to cutscenes which didn't take up more than 10 minutes at most. Modern day story has been thread barren ever since Brotherhood when Ubisoft began to stretch out the story to fit an annual release schedule.
I fucking miss Desmond, he was a little bland but still his own character.
Finishing the Juno arc with his son killing her IN A COMIC was fucking bullshit.
Unity is STILL the best looking game in the Assassin's Creed franchise. It came out half a decade ago...
Good, fuck smash.
Why the fuck do they call the precursors "itsu"? the fuck does Itsu mean?
I hold Black Flag and Rogue in high regard but don't much care for the rest of the series.
I might have to check Unity out now.
user, Unity still is quite rece-
>game will be 5 years old this year.
>In comparison, 5 years was the time between Unity and Brotherhood.
What the fuck.
I keep hearing this and honestly it's one of my favourite periods in history. I might give it a whirl.
Is two only lower in retrospect? At the time it was a massive improvement over AC 1.
Rogue didn't deserved to be a commercial failure. the story was absolute kino, Shay actually was a good character, and the gameplay was everything good from 3 and 4.
Unity is a little different from them, and relies a lot on Stealth, it's one of the "hardest" games, but you really feel like an assassin.
The one credit I give to modern asscreed is how very seldom it pulls me out of the game to do some shitty sequence as a teenager finding some new object to scan with my magic live-the-past machine.
and when it does, none of it is forced and it even prompts you with "gonna be a long time before you see another wanna these, sure you wanna go?" My biggest beef with asscreed is the stupid fucking present-time cutaway.
Ubisoft games may often be buggy and often bland, but they are really damn good for this type of shit.
> III above II
Did all the patches improve the game in the end?
Sounds good honestly and what i'd always wished Assassins Creed was (and what it always failed to be) before it accidentally became a Pirate game.
its isu you utter retard
Nope, still a bug riddled poorly optimized mess.
It actually did.
Itsu or isu it's the same shit. the precursors was just a cooler name, Isu sound fucking retarded.
When did graphic cards start being able to run Unity perfectly or aren't we there yet?
Unity is very flawed and this revisionism is false. It for a start has troubles with it's movement systems as all AC games have. I dare anyone to play through either the final Nostradamus puzzle and/or The Tournament and say this system is perfect.
Also whatever can be said about Unity, Syndicate does better.
I pirated AC Unity on launch day and ran it on its highest settings with a 970.
Only encountered one bug in dozens of hours of gameplay, and performance never dropped below 40 fps.
Meanwhile it was being shat on in Steam reviews because everyone with a toaster cried that they couldn't run it.
Any specifics?
Unity has the best combat in the entire series but it sucks that it bombed so now we're stuck with a dark souls clone.
>clubbing people with bayonets
>not being able to fight off dozens of soldiers at a time
Good times. Fuck ubisoft for rushing this game to be a console launch title.
Yeah. I really loved II when I first played it around early 2010, but upon revisiting it I didn't care for it that much. It has some nice quality of life improvements over the original Assassin's Creed (air assassinations were much easier to pull off, you have the ability to swim, etc) but the assassination missions in II paled in comparison to the first game. Like the one in the carnival around sequence 9, I think? The game CONSTANTLY reminded you to assassinate the target with the hidden gun all throughout the mission. It was so annoying. And then you never really had to use the hidden gun for the rest of the game. I also didn't like the way that sequences 12 and 13 were "corrupted" as it felt like DLC pulled out of the main game, and then there was a forced collectibles hunt so you couldn't progress to sequence 14 until you gathered all of the codex pages.
Assassin's Creed II was ok for its time but I find Unity to be so much better. It takes elements that made the first two Assassin's Creed games compelling and does basically everything better, including stealth and assassination missions with unique opportunities. Unity is the closest this franchise ever got to being a historical Hitman. I even enjoyed Unity's story despite being really goofy and Arno being bootleg Ezio.
>Also whatever can be said about Unity, Syndicate does better.
Syndicate's setting ruins the game.
It's ugly, it's shit for climbing around which is why they put the grapple gun in, it's just depressing to play in that world.
I've been replaying it lately and the game is fine, it was just fucked over by Ubisoft rushing it out the door. It's the last REAL Assassin's Creed game.
If Ubisoft managed the series then like they do now Unity would be a non ironic 8/10 game and likely 2014s actual GOTY
Instead of chasing TW3 audience, Ubisoft should have taken a page out of Hitman's book and focused on stealth and making Assassinations take work.
I hope the fucking viking game isn't true, and if it is...please god be like the old ones, i don't want to play a fucking rpg, i want to play a fucking assassin, not a warrior.
Odyssey may be an alright game, but it has almost nothing to do with AC, Origin was already meh for that.
I downloaded it again recently after finally finishing Black Flag. The best parkour in the series - I stopped playing AC after but I heard Origins and Odyssey barely have any climbing.
I still play co-op on PC sometimes at night. Maybe I'll run into some anons. Also, if you want to get mega bux for the better gear grind the heist "It Belongs in a Museum," then do yourself a favor and get the stealth gear.
Unity killed asscreed. It was the perfect comeback to form ruined by being a rushed technical mess. Fuck all this rpg bullshit.
I played both Unity and Syndicate last year, and I ran into more issues with Syndicate to be honest. Syndicate hard crashed on me a few times, plus there were moments where the AI wouldn't find their way to the next objective and I had to restart checkpoints or even entire missions, enemies would get stuck on objects and made me lost my anonymity for no reason so I had to find the enemy that got stuck then kill them to proceed with the mission, etc. Syndicate was a pain. The only problem I had with Unity was a moment where I was caught in a running animation on the edge of a rooftop and I was in a high profile action, but the game fixed itself after a few seconds when the guards lost track of me and Arno finally broke out of the running animation and stood still.
>AC2 in low tier
>ACB in shit tier
ok
Unity's combat discourages you from fighting off more than 3 enemies at a time even at high levels. The Templar bosses for instance have a three attack move which is awkward when having to deal with other enemies and they love to spam these flash bombs which are a real nuisance. Finishers also are somewhat OK but not to the same brutal level as Syndicate. More times than not you'll have this lame break neck animation.
Unity's combat is better. Syndicate was just mashing attacks and setting up multi finishes was stupid.
I really liked what it did with the social stealth, but like the rest of the AC games after 2 it doesn't use it enough. Having a massive amount of actors on screen and having a "ring" is way better than designated groups of the previous titles. I find myself weaving around to have at least 2 people around me at all times, which is much more natural than following a trio on a pre-designed path.
I just want a mission where the target is in a crowd, can't be found in eagle vision, and must be identified by their hat or something. I miss being an assassin, being a soldier is boring.
It kinda make sense when you think about it, Arno had no proper training in combats and so had to use more his parkour skills.
This game is unironically better then any nintendie shit
the zipline is perfect though. Instead of having to awkwardly hide behind the roof and circle around with snipers you can now aim above their heads, zipline over and air assassinate them.
Brotherhood was a bloated mess of a game. It would've been better if it were only three or so sequences long and focused around the Vatican area. Should've just been an expansion/DLC for Assassin's Creed II.
DAMN
Nostalgia
I feel really sorry for the people that designed the world of Unity, they put so much work in and got fucked over by everyone else.
On consoles the game is severely flawed. Even with the latest patch, physics do not always work the way they should. Not to mention the whole being ganged up on and killed thing.
>that tier list
nah
>after all this year Unity is still used to benchmark GPUs
quite impressive actually
the only game we got in between were Syndicate (meh), Origin (Alright but introduced the shitty rpg system) and Odyssey (alright but this isn't a fucking AC.), not counting the 2D spin off titles.
>brotherhood
>shit tier
more like shit list
Weird to think that this game is now probably the only way anyone can explore Notre Dame as it used to be.
Assassin's Creed: Rogue and Black Flag? Those came out last week. Clinton is still president, right?
Why do you think 3 is any better than 2 I'm interested.
The finishers and combat are more satisfying. Unity's combat is clunky and unsatisfying. In Syndicate you can fight off more enemies than Unity which is a constant game of defense past 3 enemies.
the crowd tech is still top tier too
>Unity's combat discourages you from fighting off more than 3 enemies at a time even at high levels.
(And that's a good thing). Combat should be a last resort in this series. Stealth should be priority.
>Tfw Rogue will also be 5 years old
>BF will be 6.
until you notice that it's the same 4-5 people over and over with slightly different clothes.
Didn't RPG mechanics begin to bleed into the franchise with the release of Assassin's Creed Unity? I remember Unity had those sync points or whatever they were called, and you had to spend those points on perks/skills in an upgrade tree. You had to spend a sync point or two just to sit and blend on a bench. I like Unity a lot, but the sync points were so moronic. And a lot of those sync points were hidden in the co-op missions, so you had to play those if you wanted to unlock more skills. More sync points should've been made available just by playing the main story, or better yet, give Arno social stealth abilities right from the get go....
Unity is the best AC game. I don’t know who complained about it but they’re the reason we got shitty Origins/Odyssey.
It was mostly minor and wasn't really RPG, not to the point of Origin and Unity.
I think you can actually finish Unity with the base gear if you are good and a madman.
Yes but it's a penalty that punishes the player for daring to try something that's not to the script and gameplay like that should always be discouraged. The stealth is also flawed. Take the disguise mechanic - you can't use it crouched which is the exact time you'd want to use it. It's timer is enough of a restriction as it is but Ubi typically seek to punish and frustrate the player, not reward them.
blame Unity being a buggy mess at launch for why we got Origins/Odyssey
Unity is quite shitty. Parkour is broken, most of the missions shit and story sucks ass. Same ol' Assassin bullshit, only even more annoying this time. Game could have been so much better if Ubisoft toned down the violence and remove most of the Assassins/Templar shit. I am serious, those wacky adventures of Arno and Elisa are the best part of the entire game. If only the rest of it was as fun and lighthearted as that mission with a flying balloon.
All of Unity's bugs were hilarious though. None of them broke the game, they just broke up the more tedious bits where you'd be running around and see a guy dancing alone and a woman stood beside him like a statue with her arms held up as if she was dancing too.
haven't played one of these dumb ass games since 2. Ubisoft should try being less shit, making whole games rather than making 10% of a game and then coping and pasting until they can pass it off
>i really hope the assassin gameplay will return
Unless there's a change in Ubisoft's board of directors i don't see it happening. Yves whatever his last name is has fully embraced mediocrity and rehashing the same ideas in multiple games. The so called "ubisoft formula" basically spawn dozen or so similar soulless product with borrowing mechanics from other games
>make asscreed openworld
>add craft from farcry 3
>add openworld to watch dogs and make drones mechanic
>port the drone mecanic to asscreed
>put rpg numbers and other shit into asscreed
>port it to far cry spin-off
and the list goes on. It's just endless circlejerk at this point which is sad because Unity had a potential to be the greatest game about the ASSASSINS since Asscreed 1 but ubishit fucked it up by themselves and then decided people didn't like the game, not the game being unfinished, unpolished, microtransactions ridden rubbish
Because connor has an actually interesting and original story and he dosent go from "my parents are dead NOOOOOOOO!" To Italian playboy in a matter of seconds. I also cant remember any of the antaganist's from 2 but I could immediately remember Charles Lee or Haytham Kenway
There should've been a larger free-roam Belle Epoque level.
I still think Haytam deserve his own game.
>times pass
>shit game is suddenly good
No, Unity could have been great but it's a mess, it's all over the place, the gameplay is clunky, the story tries to be complicated but is just bland and riddled with uninteresting characters (some of the secondary ones were alright, like Vidocq for example, the whole detective thing was pretty gimmicky though).
Even without all the bugs and bad optimization, it's just a tiring game to play. I'll admit that it's beautiful but that's about it.
Syndicate doubled down on the "hitting enemies with a wet towel" combat and tedious climbing and everyone agrees it's a terrible game, Unity isn't really different and doesn't really deserve to be defended.
And finally, the fact that Origins and Odyssey are almost completely different games and kinda killed what AC was supposed to be doesn't make the last games before that suddenly good.
Also III had more of a stealth focus than II. At least III added stalking bushes, rope darts, whistling to distract guards, etc. I also liked how the recruits were implemented in III (you could use them as bodyguards, creating riots, ambushes, covert escorts, and so on). Shame that the game never really took full advantage of recruit abilities. Assassin's Creed III wasn't a great game, but I admire it for its ambition.
You don't remember fighting the fucking POPE?
Have I been played? Is Unity actually good? I stopped at Black Flag.
Does anyone actually like the RPG mechanics from Origins/Odyssey or is it purely Ubisoft so they can drag run times out and charge micro transactions easier?
Don't fall for it, it's just the usual revisionism from bored contrarians, bad games get called good and good games get called bad after a while, happens all the time
The thing that made me appreciate Unity's combat was a moment in Black Flag. There's a scene at some point in the campaign where you sneak around some plantation but are eventually caught and have to gtfo. I remember playing that scene and deciding to stay and fight instead of running just to see what would happen and I ended up killing dozens of redcoats without really having to leave. That sort of thing doesn't happen in Unity which I thought was awesome. Plus the systems of blocking and counterattacking being separate controls instead of it all being one animation was a breath of fresh air.
Nah bro, no one cares about the fucking Borgia.
I mean, if the thing was univerasally hated it would've created a backlash when it first leaked on Yea Forums years ago and then later after official announcement/release. But there's silence so the target audience seems content. Fuck them tbqh.
BASED UBISOFT
Fuck this guy
Unity had a lot of good shit going for it. In particular, the stealth and combat mechanics were pretty good. I was in love with the combat because it was a fresh take on the older systems that didn't throw it all away completely like Origins/Odyssey did that was fun and challenging. I remember nothing about the story and I also remember the side missions being pretty boring. Unity post-glitches isn't some hidden masterpiece GOTY material. It's a game with solid mechanics that should have stuck with the series but a rushed development schedule to make it a XBone/PS4 launch title botched the launch, souring its reputation forever and putting the series on the path that it's on now, for better or worse. Like I said, it's not some hidden work of art, but now that it's playable, credit should be given to the developers where it's due.
4 = ACB > 2 = ACR = ACOdy > ACU > ACOri > ACR > ACS
>he doesn't remember the most kino antagonist of the series The Borgias
M8 i think Ezio trilogy is overrated as fuck but even i have to admit they were fucking great
why even bother doing that if you're just putting in that many equals signs? stop being an on the fence pussy
>mais non, le drole
I live in Paris, the cityscape in Unity is very well modeled and the best videogame representation of inner Paris i have ever seen. The character is named Arno, what the fuck! They got worried americans wouldn't understand how to pronounce Arnaud, stupid burgers. Arno is not a name.
Ass creed unity is the only game in the franchise where i found myself simply walking at street level. The cohesion of it all is absolutly beautiful but i wish the story was better written, it's shlock i say it. It's shlock like in every crédo du cul.
I'm really liking Odyssey but it doesn't feel like an AC title at all. I guess I'll go and play Unity afterwards to get more assassination stuff. I played it a bit on release but it ran badly and the parkouring felt like I'd lost control over the Brotherhood version, but maybe they've fixed that. At least I have a better PC now.
I wish the series had gone more towards the social stealth angle than the parkour stealth angle but they'd directly compete with Hitman I guess.
bro try enabling webfont smoothing on your browser
In that case
ACB > 4 > 2 > ACRogue > ACOdyssey > ACU > ACOrigins > ACRevelations > ACS
Origins and Oddysey's stories are irredeemable trash.
I thought it was usual AC fare until I went back to the older games and realised the RPG ones were just REALLY bad. Like AC was never War & Peace but they had ok stories until the RPG games came along.
Assassin's Creed as anything other then a name is over. The modern day plot (Juno) ended in a fucking comic book and Ubisoft wants nice long grindy RPG's. That and some faggot in a previous thread claims the historical accuracy is falling apart in newer entries.
Smash sóytendies are fucking cancer, off yourself manchild.
>Arno is not a name.
Mais, c'est le nom d'un département du Premier Empire! Joking aside yeah, he should've been called Arnaud
Historical accuracy was basically nonexistent after AC1. I never gave a single fuck about the modern day / lol ancient aliens plotlines, I wish they never even existed because they interrupt the actually interesting main storylines horribly. If they wanted to have something in addition to the historical stuff to spice it up I would've been fine with mythological shit like a minotaur somewhere or rumors about crazy alchemists or whatever the fuck. At least that's better than "dude it's a golden [object] and there's text floating in the air around it".
You don't like how my fonts look?
The most annoying part wasn't the name of MC, it was the fact that everyone for some reason was speaking with an english accent.
That's fine on Yea Forums, but on twitter it looks horrible. And that captcha, Jesus.
Doesn't the Ezio Trilogy have accurate data files? IE in game you see Rodrigo get poisoned by his son but the data files just say he was poisoned and history has no idea who?
That sort of stuff was fairly accurate until the RPG titles but characters have been teleporting around into completely ahistorical locations since AC2
Yeah but the assassins were medieval islamist radical group so why would they suddenly become 15th century italians all of a sudden?
I played it in french obviously.
Arno looks suspiciously algerian by the way, hm Ubisoft? Ubisoft what are you doing there buddy.
Here's an example youtube.com
Did Napoleon had a different accent in french btw? Or did he spoke with a standard french accent?
ac went capeshit with 2. it was clearly marketed as assassins creed but now you have a gun pls buy our game codplayers
No accent from the isle for Napoleon i'm afraid.
>Arno is not a name
not a French name maybe.
LMAO i'm french and i'm named Arnaud and used to know a guy that was actually named Arno, stfu Larper
It is, it's just that the spelling of "Arno" in French is usually "Arnaud", "aud" make an O sound in French, they probably named him this way to not confuse non French speakers
this.they are basically ISIS in medieval times
Cute templar.
PS4 pro with boost mode runs it stable
Arno was based for leaving them for his templar waifu.
Best girl.
Why is syndicate always rated so low?
Unity is actually fucking free on uplay right now so take your game before it's too late.
>Rouge high tier
>II low tier
>Brotherhood and Revelations shit tier
Disgusting.
Rogue really change your view of playing the old games, beside maybe Ezio, you see all the assassins as cunts.
>faggot is based for leaving redpilled society which follows a strict set of creed for jewess
neck your self.
Quick reminder the game is actually free this week, grab and it's yours forever
register.ubisoft.com
Fuck you Achilles
Isn't Arno the pronounciation of Arnaud or is my french shit?
Name a more based antagonist Can't fucking believe AC3 will already be 7 years old.
Basically like real life
Well shit.
user that's a protagonist and a good guy.
Haytam solo game fucking when
4 > Brotherhood > 2 > Rogue > Revelations >>> shit >>> everything else from this abhorrent franchise
A Haytham DLC in Rogue leading up to AC3 beginning was the easiest shit they could've done. The plot is already written in the novels. Too bad they just had to release two games at once so Rogue had no support after release.
Rogue being a commercial failure also didn't help.
Fuck
>low tier
>ac2
are you fucking insane, kys nigger
Casualized the fuck out of it, made the game even more specialized for controllers and worse for MKB (aiming bows on PC feels like you can only aim in whole degrees rather than smoothly) and removed most of the stealth and assassination ie core gameplay mechanics.
Unity bombed at the time because of the horrible performance but playing it now it's the last great AC game, despite some flaws.
I wish nu-AC had retained the stealth stuff, like assassinating targets because they're not magically immune to a blade to the neck/head, or that dropping down from a height makes noises that can be heard by guards, as does simple movement unless you crouchwalk, both of which can be mitigated by better gear which muffles sounds. Also crowd blending. Makes zero sense that they removed it for Origins and Odyssey, hardly felt like AC games at all.
they are progressively getting better at their open world games, i was surprised when i played far cry 5, i expected the same go there fetch that quests, but they are more diverse, even the treasure hunts (former known as chests in far cry 4 ) have a backstory to them,
Because Arno/Arnold is the original Germanic form of the French name Arnaud. The character is French and it takes place in France so it should be Arnaud.
