Expansions have been around for a long time, but they used to add a notable amount and weren't meant to "complete" the game. an example of expansions done right in the modern is XCOM:Enemy Within imo.

Basically, consumers keep crying on pretty much every old game "This needs a remaster!!!" and consistently this is the popular opinion.

I echo this sentiment. Also I seem to enjoy games the most where there is a clear story, some player choice, and the main challenge comes from mastery of the game system. I had the most fun with a game in 5 years in Nosferatu.
