I played in an online lobby today for the first time.

Got bodied but definitely enjoyed playing with human players nonetheless.

Also decided to try and learn May and Chipp from the getgo but it seems both are slightly technical so my bearings are gonna be rough to sharpen I believe.

Are there any Guilty Gear primers like the UNIST ones?

Guilty Gear Xrd Rev2 is fun, so is BlazBlue Central Fiction. I play both.

May isn't too bad, her basic stuff is pretty simple and you can get really far relying on her more easy confirms and command grab stuff. The hard technical stuff is mostly optimization and expanding the number of situations you can run your shit in rather than really requirements to use the character. She's also nice in that she can use meter to prop up whatever part of her gameplan she's lacking the most. If you're having trouble with damage but not neutral, RRC lets her confirm weird hits into decent damage pretty easily. If you're having trouble with neutral but not damage, beachball YRC and dolphin YRC will bravely go and play neutral for you while you aim to get hits you can convert off of.
Do try to avoid falling into the turbo-May trap though. Spamming random dolphin rides and f.S IAD j.S and similar things works pretty well at low levels, but it's definitely a bad habit and you'll hit a wall when you fight players that know how to shut it down. Try to learn from what the pros like Kedako do in neutral instead of just throwing out high committal options like that. May's a bit weird in terms of what parts of the screen she can cover and how she wants things to line up to get the big damage hits, but once you get it figured out she blows people the fuck up.

I don't know much about Chipp, but he's supposed to be pretty technical and unforgiving. He's definitely good though, if you hate blocking with a passion he's your guy.

Join the discord for the characters you want info for. You don't have to talk in them, although they're mostly pretty okay as far as non-anonymous discussion goes, just check the pins for writeups and guides. I know May has a good one written by one of the best japs and well translated.
Unfortunately dustloop is pretty barren and outdated, it's worth a look but there's a lot of empty spaces and sometimes stuff like combos and move data that they just copied from the Rev 1 wiki that isn't true any more.
