Aside from her history and general marketability, I just really want Shantae above all other indies (and many other regular characters) cause her movepool is fucking RIDICULOUS for smash.
Especially if they focus on her animal transformations. Doing shit like giving her specials or smash attack where she temporarily turns into one of her forms (like, for the duration of the attack) and straight up changes her hitbox could lead to all sorts of cool shit.
And on top of that you still got pirate tools and magic to pull from.
Also, Nega Shantae would fit in perfectly with all the other Dark Character skins.

I think we'll get one more JRPG character. Either Byleth, Erdrick, Luminary, Lloyd Irving, Yuri Lowell, or some other protagonist figure.
Aside from that, we may get a Nintendo 1st party character or two. Octoling, with a unique moveset, might happen. A third AC character seems unlikely despite the new game coming out this year. Maybe another Zelda character? It would help promote Link's Awakening remake, at least.
Interestingly, all the Mii fighters are SEGA characters. Maybe future packs will have a similar focus? Like a new Capcom character would mean all Capcom mii costumes. That could mean something mega-hit like Monster Hunter, or Darkstalkers for a classic whimsical bent. More Mega Man fighters seem unlikely but not impossible.
Lastly, one western character. Steve, Dovahkin, Doomguy, Shantae, whatever. I think we're getting one.

KoF 95 was the game that gave Sakurai his current game designing philosophy, so I'm sure that KoF still lives in Sakurai's thoughts. Also, Joker was a Sakurai-biased addition, so we know that he still has influence on who gets in or not. Finally, SNK isn't as death as it was years ago. In fact, their characters are starting to crossover with other franchises as said.

DLC Fighter 2: Most likely announced at E3 so going to be something either completely unexpected from a high-selling franchise, or something absolutely desired by hardcore fans
from the ballot. E3 is going to have plenty of developers drowning out the others with trying to blow out fans and consumers. This is going to be a BIG reveal for it to stick at E3.
DLC Fighter 3: Most likely announced during autumn Nintendo Direct, so will likely be tied to or related to a game announced during that direct. Smash brings in its own audience, but for a Nintendo Direct to serve its purpose in getting consumers to branch out to different franchises, DLC 3 needs to be a character to tie into a game for that direct.
DLC Fighter 4: Announced during November or December. Probably something from a game that will sell for the Switch holiday season. Pokemon Sword and Shield is the big holiday title for Switch this season. More likely to be a new Pokemon than DLC Fighter 3.
DLC Fighter 5: Announced in early 2020. Most likely a DLC character from a recently released game for 2019 holiday season. Either a new Pokemon (as all of the Pokemon from Gen 8 will be announced at this point), or something completely off the rails since this will be the last DLC fighter.

Worst game in the series by far. Does nothing new, and nothing as well as the previous entries. Single player content is terrible. I'd prefer the total lack of content that Smash 4 had over world of souls or whatever that shite is called. And the controls are terrible. Inputs constantly get eaten, new airdodge mechanics are a shitty mid way between Melee and 4, loads of advanced movement removed, no wavedash, no item slides, no DACUS, no perfect pivot. Online even with the Switch docked and using the ethernet adapter is laggy as fuck and the online options for match making are retarded and a huge step back from Smash 4.
its the worst Smash game by a long way. I can't understand why anyone would think otherwise.

Wasn't generic 17 years ago, she seems generic now because her design was popular while being semi-original that character designers in the vidya/vn/anime industry started taking notes and copying aspects from her.
