They have a discord where a lot of them speak english, and even if you think that they "put on a facade", they truly seem genuine to me.

One of the discord's rules is to avoid talking about politics, but this doesn't prevent people from DMing them and talking about politics there.

This shit was my jam as a kid. Shit tons of levels and has a level editor.
I've mentioned it on Yea Forums a few times in the past decade, but have never one seen someone else mention it.

While it is well known in the RTS community, Homeworld is the kind of kino that needs to be experienced at least once.
Excellent gameplay if very hard at times, patrician presentation all around from the music to the artstyle and a genuinely interesting and captivating story.
It's a spectacular game, but the remake doesn't actually do it justice.

I played the ever loving shit out of Zenith when it game out.
Can't recommend it enough.

Pretty good. But you will need to accept that you'll need to hop between 3 separate emulators to really cover 95% of games.
I usually go starting from DEmul -> reicast -> nullDC, in that order and usually one of the 3 will run said game just fine.

You are irrelevant desu, even if you tried your best you couldn't change the objective fact that ttp is a quite good game.

It's my favourite game ever. It's just no one ever talks about it or mentions it.

Extreme G-3
The Red Star
Dungeons and Dragons: Heroes

It's a story-heavy game and it's very easy to be spoiled on it. It's a game where you start and you're dead. You have no clue who you are or why you were killed, just that you'll cease to exist when the sun rises the next morning. You follow a really well written plot with fantastic characters, saving people from deaths over the course of the night and learning that a lot of things that are happening over the course of the night are intertwined in ways you would never have guessed.

I can't really say any more without spoiling large swathes of it. It's not that long a game, so if you want to try an underappreciated, hidden gem, definitely give it a try.

Thief Gold/Thief 2 and System Shock 2 are both regarded as genuinely groundbreaking games, but are just cult classics that I think most people have probably never even heard of.
As far as games that I never see anyone even mention, Claw. Solid platformer that's over 20 years old but the art/graphics, sound/music, and gameplay all still hold up very well, and I keep hoping for a rerelease with controller support.

I sunk so much time into this game as a kid and remember it feeling like such a deep and massive game. Replayed it on an emulator recently and ended up beating the entire tower in one run via save state cheesing. Really put things into perspective.

despite it being a student project, they somehow managed to nail the endgame, where getting to the moon required an absolute mastery of the games systems. wish they'd do a sequel

I agree. It's my favorite from the system and I've felt the itch to go back recently. I had a moment where I was showing it to some friends and one thought the first main boss was the final boss. Can't blame him since it was the fight that hooked me.

The Longest Journey

Why would you play an inferior SNES version if there's a PS2 one available?

the only thing I ever heard about this franchise is the anime adaptation that it is one of the top 10 lowest rated anime in My Anime List

the PS2 game is an entirely different game

Monster rancher 2 did not deserve the shit sequels it got.

Monster rancher should have been the trainer king, not pokemon

Different game, same franchise. Sorta. Copyright was fuzzy when it released.

I don't think I ever died when I played it on the PS, either. The early floors were never challenging and you'd always find a wind crystal before too long. The only difference is that that overarching goal becomes kind of pointless, since you can still do all the dating sim stuff and town building after you beat the game. You can also beat it on your first run without save state cheesing, it's just a lot harder.

Shame they don't make more games like it, though. Everything is too condensed these days into a single "genre" and nobody makes these kinds of super fun hybrid games anymore.

Vagrant Story. Though it's really not for everyone.

The OVA was shit. Based off the first game in the series.

Second game (Zwei) was good, meant to compete against Starfox 64.

Azel/Saga was a really good RPG.

And Orta, the last and final game, was a good rail shooter that was the last we ever saw of the series.

you just fucking made that up. They're the devs of Serious Sam.

Seconding this. It's like a jrpg crossed with Diablo, very comfy, good atmosphere, simple yet engaging. Pretty cheap too I think.

It was only on the N-Gage for 11 years until Xseed ported it to PC. No wonder nobody ever heard of it or played it.

It really sucks because it was a mixture of poor marketing on a console that didn't sell well and critics being generally shit at games that panned it because they couldn't figure out basic mechanics.

This wonderful game got unjustly shafted.

I had this too. Was this the one where you had drones and shit?

I actually played a phone port of this game on a 2006 flip phone. Shit was cash, they basically had similar graphics cause it wasnt that great even on the ds, but for a flip phone game it was amazing. Only big difference is you moved on a grid and was turn based. There was also a port of doom in that vein turning the game into a grid based, turn based rpg on a flip phone, also quality.

based as fuck thats one of my favorite games of the past few years, and possibly of all time. havnt had a game grip me that hard since i was a kid, and i never felt frusturated during the whole time

That's a good list, but idk I feel like a lot of 90s gamers have played sonic CD. If were counting old games that were popular back in the day but aren't now as the systems have passed, that's a lot of old games to include then.

Klonoa

All the Yokai Watch games that have been localized are really good

It's pretty sad that pokemonfags singlehandledy killed the franchise outside of Japan by autistically labelling it as a pokemon ripoff or clone, when the games are vastly different (actually I'd even argue that YW is better than the current pokemon games, and judging from the gameplay and graphics of the upcoming 4th game when compared to Sword and Shield isn't really helping that opinion much)

Netstorm.

Damn dude, posted same game but reading through thread find you already mentioned it. Funny I used kino as well to describe it, it's really one of those few games out there I'd genuinely think deserve that praise, and its criminally underplayed so I appreciate someone else giving the reference. This game really needs to be played.

Ghost in the shell is such a gem, every ones seen the movie but nobody's played this game

Tyrian 2000

Pre World Monster Hunter (ie. the good Monster Hunter games)

Yeah. I don't remember much about the lore for how they got there though something about humanity getting displaced by dinosaurs to counter pollution?

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

Half Life 2 is fun but has some parts that are a bit of a slog, I have put more playthroughs into Half Life Ep 1 & 2 than I would be comfortable to admit. I love the underground subway section and the hospital in 1, and the entirety of Ep 2 other than the turret defense sequence. Really pissed there is no new content for Half Life ever again.

shill

MARLOW BRIGGS AND THE MASK OF DEATH

imagine a god of war (ps3) clone that was extremely over the top b action movie fun. didn't take itself seriously at all.

Me and my grand aunt play hide the teacup in the sheets, I wouldn't recommend it though :(

I posted earlier battalion wars, but honestly it was a coin flip between that and this. Custom robo was so damn comfy, I think I've 100% it 2 or 3 times over the years, and plenty of split screen with friends back when devs actually bothered making good split screen games.

Any favorite guns or bodies?

Maybe it was just my childhood then. Had 2 cousins with one and several classmates as well, so while I never even had a genesis it seemed like a popular add on to me.

What are some games that you enjoyed but thought was painfully average?
Doesn't do anything new or risky, is overall solid but isn't anything memorable.
There's probably a million indie platformers that are passable and are mechanically solid, but isn't really interesting.

Is that Molly Ringwald?

Sonic CD is one of the best platformers. Easily the best sonic game but I'm sure then you'd just say sonic franchise is trash anyway. Still, I feel like your baiting or your tastes are just terrible for tossing this classic aside so easily.

Holy shit based.

Theres a robotech game for the gamecube/ps2 that is rather enjoyable but it doesnt do anything special at all other than pander to robotech fans.

Sequence/Before the Echo
>what if we mixed stepmania with an RPG
It's been years since I played but I think they did a pretty good job since I had a great time playing. You got three lanes to work with. One is to build up a mana pool and where the "main" rhythm sections are, one's to defend attacks, and the other's to cast attacks.

MechAssault

To be fair, that's essentially betting on how many OG Xbox boomers are on here and If they're the majority, I'm probably wrong.

fallout 76

everyone just jump in to the hate bandwagon without even playing it.

Blood.

tbqh I have no idea if this game was popular or not I don't even remember if it was good but I do remember it was full of soul

I also remember it being scary but I was a total bitch little kid

Attached: Chibi_Robo.jpg (214x300, 28K)

You should try Race the Sun. It's really fun.

Makes me sad you couldn't see the good game through the flaws in Too Human. The camera sucks. And they realized they made it too difficult to humanly beat so they had to create the valkyrie system. If you can get past those things the sci fi meets norse mythology stuff is really good.

I remember the DS version used to lag my console pretty hard, good times

Does anyone have a link to the kstv2 episode sam released yesterday? not going give him shekels, so please spoonfeed me Yea Forumsros.

Unironic 10/10. Amazing game in my honest opinion.

I remember playing and liking this but I never got as into it as I wanted to. Only think I ever had one run that actually got deep enough to even be worth mentioning. Should probably dig out my PS3 (and figure out what the fuck happened to my DS3 while I'm at it) and give it another whirl.

Yeah but Rance isn't on steam

HYPERNOVA: Escape From Hadea. It's an awesome openworld tower-defense/rts hybrid with just 1 huge map.

This retard has somehow gotten all of his fan communities banned and I'm not using some shithole honeypot site like Gab to go looking for them.
Not making the mistake of paying him ever again after I bought the first print of the book because he claimed it would be the only print.

On a side note, Charls and Andy's new short is really good. Charls has been killing it on Twitch, too.

Shut the fuck up you dumb bitch. You'll get over that in 2 levels. Play that shit. There was more innovation in first person game movement than the entire industry has had in the past decade. Imagine a first person shooter where moving actually took skill, and you could wall run over unskilled plebs, shoot them in the head as you pass, land, roll to keep your momentum, and fuck off before their buddy even sees you.

>mfw nobody has the intellect to generate a mainstream market to play games like this anymore

This game is a classic. Nobody claims about the camera

Was looking for this, great and brutal stealth game, for the time, dunno if it holds up though. Second one was also great but I don’t remember it as well.

Nights: Journey of Dreams

Legitimately the best game of the generation and was absolutely worth getting a Wii U for, even if I didn’t get a Wii U for that game. They need to stop teasing me with twitter pics and actually release something.

never played this one but played SLAI.
really liked it

Thanks to my desktop shitting the bed, I had to play games on a laptop for most of the summer of 2017. I played System Shock 2 for the first time, and I loved every minute. The level design, atmosphere, art, and writing are all excellent. The proto-immersive-sim gameplay only takes an hour or two to get used to if you're used to more modern FPS.

Also played through Unreal for the first time. It's a classic on the level of DOOM that doesn't get nearly as much appreciation for what it did, and it still plays great.

I can't get enough of that late 90's early 3D atmosphere when games really lean into it with surreal, alien looking worlds.

>the ridiculous fucking bots
mechanically f-zero is ace but I couldn't keep playing it
call me a casual if you want, I just hope i'm not the only one who feels this way

Avernum series. Pretty decent CRPGs imo. Kings Field, fun if you can get past the tank controls. Kenka Bancho etc.

Good game, but needs better maps, with actual puzzles. Switch hunting isn't that fun. It's p good coop though

Given the state of Yea Forums today, that literally worships Halo and spends most of it's time freaking out about politics of female representation in videogames, I'd say: All of them.

But here are few:
>Pathologic
>Homeworld
>Cryostasis
>Original War
>Vietcong
>Kohan: Immortal Sovereign / Ahriman's Gift

Does LISA the Painful count, or have most people played that here? It's hard to gauge with how LISA threads are

OK can anyone back this up? Have I been coming off as an idiot hipster for talking up ME like it was some kind of cult hit for years? Or does it have a small of a following as I think?

Really fun racing game, arcade version is 10/10, console version is 8.5. Sad they don't make games like this anymore.

Attached: rush2049.jpg (465x640, 408K)

>tfw this is better than that 'free-running' faux JSR game that came out recently
shame that it'll never get the love it deserves. Got my whole friendgroup into this.

HYPER LIGHT DRIFTER

>I keep hearing about this, can you red pill me on it?
Not him, but it's sort of a 2D survival metroidvania something where you play as an adorable cat-slug trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic world periodically flooded by killer rains. It has a very strange pixel-heavy art direction, some of them most beautiful art direction and animation you'll ever see in an indie game, fairly complex gameplay, but it is rendered unplayable for vast majority of people by being INSANELY difficult, to a point where it tends to suck out any enjoyment out of it.
I have to admire the game, and would love to love it, but my god I am just too old for this shit.

if white genocide involves killing more people like you then yass queen

>They literally said on Twitter that white genocide is a good thing.
You mean the slav guys? The ones that made Serious Sam? Yeah, sure. I'd love to see the fucking evidence for that?

Still have the manual to this game. The remake is fine, playing the og doesnt look right on modern systems anyway and the sequel wasnt bad either.

one of the best gamecube demo games i played in blockbuster

I've yet to talk to anybody who remembers -let alone played- this (apparently) hidden gem.

most of these aren't even obscure

>Still have the manual to this game.
The manual was basically a work of art on it's own. It did more and better world-building on 50 pages than most games manage through out their entire fucking lenght. Damn Homeworld was such a fucking gem through and through.

>VERMINTIDE 2
has micro-transactions, so miss me with that gay shit

some people just enjoy punishment user, I played it so much I could eventually hold my own against the bots, but none of my friends wanted to play it with me. I'd give my left testicle (the big one) for a new F-Zero game with online, it was one of a few games I managed to get genuinely good at

I think he is literally so fucking idiotic he thinks Talos's is an Elder Scrolls thing.

>it simply states that everything that lives is doomed to die
No, Talos presents a problem of impossibility to distinguish soul from evidence of having one, or the issue of substantialism vs preformativism of concsiousness theory.

This game is so overrated on this site. It's a mediocre TPS. Nothing more. It's worse than even shit like Gears of War and yet Yea Forums shills the fuck out of it because it's Japanese, has waifus and bombed in the mainstream.

Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together

I know a lot of us nerds here have played it, but a majority of the gaming population hasn't. It is an absolutely amazing game.

Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem

I played ff tactics instead cause i'm not a fag.
Is tactics ogre also set in ivalice? I love that world, especially in ff tactics, vagrant story and ff xii.
How's the story? FF tactics probably has the best ff story ever.

ISLANDERS

It isn't set in any final fantasy world.

it is basically just a gritty war story with lots of political intrigue and stuff.

>gritty war story with lots of political intrigue and stuff.
That sounds like ff tactics a lot or vagrant story, which are both set in the same universe.

Actually it reminded me more of Kirby Air Ride, and in a bad way.

I just wanna say there are a few games I've been playing on steam lately that are pretty great some from my childhood but I feel they still hold up great.

Gunpoint, a really great 2d puzzle stealth game with a good story and moody atmosphere

Insaniquarium Deluxe, yeah it's an aquarium simulator but you get to kill aliens and have an overall good time.

The entire Ty the Tasmanian Tiger series got remastered and put on steam. And it's one of My favorite series of all time.

Icons: Combat Arena is a fun little Smash Clone. Still young so not amazing but still good.

And also regardless of what any of these losers say Hover is a good game, only fags keep their heads stuffed up their own asses eating their own shitty nostalgia instead of enjoying something for what it is.

I always wondered how those dudes on the leaderboards lived for like 999 years when the map eventually gets flooded with super durable cavemen who will kill your ass dead

Icons sucks ass, get Slap City or Rivals of Aether instead

dota 2
normies out

>Aether
DLC nickel and diming bullshit diminishes what is otherwise a good game

God Eater 3. It's getting a switch port soon. No one even cared enough to shitpost about it.

Imperialism II. It's a great old grand strategy game which I'll continue to shill as long as Paradox keeps making their DLC ridden garbage.

Admit it. None of you played it. You lack the confidence to form your own opinion. You can’t even ATB refresh.
