No, it's been a game with a cult following for a long time now. /vr/ has had regular Build engine threads since before he made videos of Blood. Gmanlives did a review on it years ago. There's an article of it on HG101. People have known of it for a while.

It's hard. Not the way that Dark Souls is "hard", but actually fucking hard. Blood is even harder. Redneck Rampage is even harder than that.

It's got more than a tablespoon of cheap enemy placement but other than that it's not that hard once you memorized the cheap shit.

It's way harder than Duke in my experience. Everything and everyone is really lethal but also fragile, especially you, you're basically a glass cannon.

Shadow Warrior is much easier once you get the grenade launcher and rocket launcher. You get tons of ammo for them, so you should be firing grenades around every corner. You might think you're supposed to play Lo Wang like some kind of ninja, but you'll be chewed up far too quickly for that. Just keep firing grenades around blind corners until you stop hearing screams and then finish anything left alive with the rocket launcher.

Explosive radius is stupid large and the enemies are split between "toss bombs at him" or "get in his face and fuck him".

Best tip for the game is to get over how you've learned to play old school FPSes in terms of weapons. The shotgun and the uzi are actually kind of not that useful. You more powerful weapons should be used whenever you have ammo for them. The shotgun and the uzi are the emergency weapons for when you're out of ammo for the more powerful stuff.

Shotgun is not worthless, you just have to keep in mind that using its secondary fire as often as possible is the default modus operandi with it. Nuke areas filled with bullshit, keep in mind that smoke grenades make your punches hurt a lot, never stop moving around. Also, there's secrets out the ass, so use them.

sw is a bit harder generally and the explosion damage is ridiculous

If you use the shotgun as a workhorse weapon you're going to get your ass handed to you. No one said it was worthless, but you CANNOT rely on it.

It is harder than duke, the basic enemies are more asshole-y.
I think Blood is the hardest of the build engine games but it's mostly due to weird weapons and straight up troll level design and enemy placement. Shadow Warrior is the perfect midspot for me.

It's pretty tough. Fuck the reboot games.
