A friend of mine fell for the paid online because of Splatoon 2 and Smash, and he regrets it. I think he hasn't even played online in over 2 months.
I've also seen other people online regretting getting it.

if you are able to play online then yeah sure, the singleplayer mode is fun but not really as great as brawl's

i bought it for splatoon alone and i dont regret it.

It'll take you a good while to to World of Light, unlock all the spirits, and do all achievements, but the game is most fun when playing with others. If you want to play online, make sure your connection is good at least.

I have a friend to play smash and minecraft with a few times a week so it was worth it. Compared to the competition its very worth it. Even though were already paying for our internet connections, which shouldn't be worth it ever.

He doesn't regret getting the Switch or the games. He just hoped that the online would be better than it actually is. Good on you for not feeling like it was a waste of money, and no I'm not being sarcastic.
