What will be the launch title?

>will it be worth the wait?
if it comes with some spicy game bundle and not-ridiculous price, yes
>will it be the new leader in vr?
yes but that's no saying much since oculus and HTC left the high-end door wide open to valve

>no option for inside out tracking for people who don't want to set up lighthouses as permanent fixtures
>expansion slot for leap motion-esque device so they can further fragment their already, somewhat small, userbase

it'll definitely be 'the best' headset, but it'll also be expensive and impractical.

Let's just say you've waited half your life to play it

Attached: cute023.jpg (403x442, 26K)

You are not ready.

Attached: gabetron.gif (330x330, 3.72M)

Seems like it'll be inside out, instead of with external sensors. So it'll be easier to setup and use. I'm guessing it'll also be cheaper. No idea if it'll be better than a Vive though, I have no idea how good inside out tracking is compared to lighthouses.

To me it looks like it'll be a more accessible product, not necessarily a better one.

Yeah man, I'm getting one along with a 3D TV

>Seems like it'll be inside out, instead of with external sensors.
No it won't, what gave you that idea? It's already confirmed to use lighthouses.

>what gave you that idea?
The two cameras.
>It's already confirmed to use lighthouses.
Where?

Also, I based that on this article (Dutch) tweakers.net/nieuws/150936/valve-plaatst-teasersite-voor-vr-bril-index-met-vermoedelijk-inside-out-tracking.html
But reading the comments makes it seem that that article is just bullshit. Still, I'd like to see your confirmation.

the cameras won't work for inside-out the way they're positioned. you could potentially do basic slam stuff for MR experiences, but the camera wouldn't be able to track the controllers half the time.

>The two cameras.
The Vive and Vive Pro also have cameras.

>Where?
The store page was leaked 2 weeks ago and we already knew for over a year that the Knuckles need lighthouses, and you can see the IR sensors in the teaser pic in the OP.

don't fuck with me, gabe

Why do companies keep integrating headphones into this garbage? Most PC Gamers already own Headsets, and enthusiasts are going to own a headset that is going to sound a million times better than your cheap bolted-on garbage. Remove integrated headphones, lower the cost, and everybody is happy.

>The Vive ... also have cameras.
Well, no, it has 1 camera.

>The store page was leaked 2 weeks ago
And it doesn't actually confirm lighthouses.

>and we already knew for over a year that the Knuckles need lighthouses
Those were prototypes, it's feasible that those could change. Also, that store page doesn't mention the knuckle controllers?
I guess there's no hard confirmation, but yeah it seems highly likely.
To at least have a baseline. I don't think you can say most PC gamers have a headset, plenty will have speakers only, which would be terrible. Also consider the fact that this attracts non PC gamers to an extend. And that with integrating the headphones there are less cables, which is still a problem. And the cost of shitty integrated headphones is probably insignificant.

>And it doesn't actually confirm lighthouses.
Read the pic.

>Those were prototypes, it's feasible that those could change
No they weren't, the final devkit version was sent out by the thousands a little while ago.

>I guess there's no hard confirmation
steamdb.info/sub/354231/apps/
Valve already confirmed 2 weeks ago that the leaked page is accurate (but not complete).

>Read the pic.
I did, all I see that is close is "Base Stations, and PC required", which doesn't necessarily mean lighthouses.

>No they weren't, the final devkit version was sent out by the thousands a little while ago.
Really? I haven't seen that. Do you have a source?

>Valve already confirmed 2 weeks ago that the leaked page is accurate (but not complete).
Sure, but like I said, that page is no hard confirmation, it just makes it seem highly likely.

Bundle it with HL3 and it'll sell a million units.

>Base Stations
>which doesn't necessarily mean lighthouses
Please learn basic terminology, base stations are literally the lighthouses.

>Really? I haven't seen that. Do you have a source?
steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1593797320

>that page is no hard confirmation
Valve already confirmed the page they wrote themselves is accurate.

Because blindly putting on a pair of headphones every time you want to play is fucking annoying

>portal 3
>half life 3
>left for dead 3
>team fortress 3
OUT OF FUCKING NOWHERE

Attached: 1551897535889.gif (500x282, 1.16M)

>Please learn basic terminology, base stations are literally the lighthouses.
Okay yeah, they literally call them base stations on the Vive store page. I thought they always called them lighthouses.

>steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1593797320
Thanks.

>Valve already confirmed the page they wrote themselves is accurate.
I never said it was inaccurate.

>yfw instead of hl3, valve just announces the new campo santo game as their lead launch title

Attached: WCCFinthevalleyofgods-740x429.jpg (740x429, 59K)

Because it's a dangerous thing to assume anything when you're trying to sell a product. It's better to have it and not need it than the other way around.

Nice I like Campo Santo. Those guys are already, also Firewatch is the best recent walking sim.

>best
>walking sim
That's an oxymoron.

My highest hopes are Left 4 Dead 3
>actually thinking nu-Valve will release multiple games simultaneously

It's been confirmed that the development on ItVotG has been on hold for their other VR games
Worth the Weight TM

Why is this pic all black?
Is this Campo's interpretation of Black Square from Malevich?

That's a moron

Does valve even remember how to make games

Putting on/taking off/constantly untangling headphones is annoying and so is having the cord whipping around your face all the time; sounds like you've never used vr.

>yet another multiplayer-only vr shooter that'll die off in three months
please no

>I put nu on things that are different from my nostalgia-goggle-world-view

this thread again?

Valve operates differently today than it did pre-2010, hence the 'nu'
They've changed user, for the worse

Irrelevant when there are no true games worth playing, when controls aren't optinally used (when/if leg tracking is supported) and when the effect of VR lasts only a few days before you get used to it.
VR will never succeed because of the last point anyway. You get used to VR pretty fast, and when it no longer impresses you, it adds nothing unless the game itself really supports VR exclusive parts (controls, mostly).

I would love to see more games use leg tracking but let's be real here, people are stupid as hell and are already punching walls and shit while playing VR due to lack of space. Do you really want them kicking shit too?

DELET

I sure hope to god it's not some 1600x1800 bullshit like the other two are doing. Fuck zuckbook and 'the real chinese'.

Also any hopes of getting a preorder in are pretty much 0. It will be sold out before you even have a chance to read the specs.

Yes I will upgrade my vive to this thing + knuckles. I'll keep my lighthouses and sell the old headset and controllers.

I trust Valve to make something that's legitimately "gen 2" VR and not another clone.

>1600x1800
Where did you come up with this resolution? No one is doing this. Index is expected to be 1440x1600 per eye, same as the vive pro.

Journas already playing it.
steamdb.info/app/250820/depots/?branch=index_press

What about oculus quest?

mobile meme

>unless the game itself really supports VR exclusive parts (controls, mostly).
I will agree that this is the main reason to play VR, but I also think there are enough games that take advantage of it. VR controls work really well and are the obvious best way to play a few types of games. Even in this early stage, the hardware has proven that it has a lot to offer. For me, it is well worth it to be able to have something unique in video games for the first time in a really long time. I also don't think you get the purely visual aspect of VR enough credit. Even after a year, moving through the environment in VR feels much more satisfying and being able to better gauge your velocity not just superficial.

>Also any hopes of getting a preorder in are pretty much 0. It will be sold out before you even have a chance to read the specs
They will announce this on 1st of May and it will be launch in June. That's enough time to mass produce.

How so?

it runs on mobile hardware

no one wants VR until they just put out a headset without any fucking peripheral devices needed for positioning and all that bullshit

also fuck waggle controls

literal retard

Then why didn't you buy a WMR?

It's something low that I pulled out of my ass. God damnit, here I was hoping they would go all out to make the technology viable for long range shooters.

1 and a half months is not a lot of time. Those chinks at pimax are still shipping their preorders. I was prepared to fight for preorder on launch, but after that awful resolution ^ I might wait and see.

If pimax gets their shit together and the 5k+ works properly with knuckles then I'm in.

>also fuck waggle controls

Confirmed for never having tried VR or even bothered to look into it since 2016.

Runs on mobile hardware, games have to be lower quality to compromise for lack of power, locked to Oculus store with probably no chance of being able to run anything outside of it.
It'll be good for the people who don't have a $800-$1000 PC but it's gonna be pretty limited.

yeah, how about we add GOOD to the list of requirements

It's still a good step in resolution over vive. The screen door and overall picture is going to be a lot better than vive pro on account of the switch from pentile OLED to low persistance LCD, and the amount of patents they've filed seems to suggest they've done a lot of research into improving the lenses.

There are higher res headsets already out of course, but none of them seem practical for video games and most seem to lack any kind of real technological advance in the optics.

Holy fuck I just realised it's 12 years since EP2 which has actually been half of my life.

VRchat.

Screen door effect and blurry text are deal breakers for me. The knuckles controllers look cool though .

>VR
>having a game
LOL

no, fuck vr, even if it was hl3 it'll still fucking suck, stop shilling this shit. let me clap this out for you:

It. Fucking. Sucks.

you stink of reddit and twitter
let me slap this out for you
*SLAP SLAP SLAP SLAP SLAP*
NOW GET OUT

cause "VR" is a joke anyway, might as well

No. They'll abandon it after 6 months like everything else.

fuck off nigger

you can't post here if you are underage
go back

>a headset without any fucking peripheral devices needed for positioning and all that bullshit
But that's what this is as well as the Oculus Quest. They have inside-out tracking.

By fans and not VR native ports.
Valve dont make games anymore user. Probably an Artifact vr version too.

Attached: NOGAEMS_OCULUSPSVR.jpg (4732x3862, 3.38M)

How many of those are actually good games though? My guess is maybe 3-4 of them in each pile.

so more good games than the ps4? cool

VR is a meme gimmick fad that is already over.

Half Life 3

You can keep posting this but that doesn't make it true.

Not an argument lad

Two words: Three D TEE VEE, QED. Whatever that means.

Nobody gives a fuck unless it's launching with Half-Life 3.

It depends on what you like. Especially Oculus has been publishing some good high production values games:

The VR Believers severely overestimate the influence of Valve corp.

No one gives a shit about a Valve zombie shooter, or a Valve puzzle game, or Half Life. Do you people seriously think there are millions of consumers sitting on the edge of their chairs in breathless anticipation of...a Source engine shooter? Will such a game also come with the Turok-levels of draw distance fog that Valve's newest shooter, CSGO Danger Zone, has? Give me a fucking break lol, you guys think people are going to spend several hundred dollars for that?

Valve will release their headset and their free tech dem..I mean "games" and the 99.2% of PC gamers who don't care about VR will emit a collective "Meh" and then go back to playing LoL and Fortnite.

No one gives a fuck about Half Life and no one gives a fuck about Valve.

You sure seem to be trying hard to convince other people that they don't care about something, isn't that a bit oxymoronic?

Well that's some cool shit, thanks for posting user. Glad to see VR is growing.

Oculus Quest preorder page went up in the UK... £499 = $650 LMAO for mobile VR ahahahaha

Most likely not. Who knows...
Until I hear good things about it there's no way to tell.

>will it be worth the wait?
No, because it's VR
>will it be the new leader in vr?
who actually gives a shit

it's up

youtube.com/watch?v=m9jz_CWOzVY

Isn't it $400 in the US? Why the increase?

Also, is there an alternative for a wireless standalone?

Just post the fucking link instead of this rambling faggot
steamdb.info/app/250820/depots/?branch=index_press

>Holy fuck I just realised it's 12 years since EP2
Which was also the last single-player game Valve shipped that did not have microtransactions.

I want to say that again: Valve has not shipped a single-player game without microtransactions in TWELVE YEARS. Consider that, the fact that every other hardware adventure Valve embarked on have been complete failures with glaring quality control issues, and one wonders why exactly the VR Cultists think this company is going to set the world on fire.

Valve Drones are the eternal embodiment of early 2010's Apple Fanboys. Delusion fills their minds and nothing will ever sway them from swallowing the nonsensical prophecies of the billionaire CEO they deify.

boneworks it looks like so far

There's two versions of the quest, one with 64GB storage and one with 128GB Storage. I'm assuming the high price is the latter.

Jesus what the fuck is THAT?!?!
How does it even work?

I understand wireless but why would you ever want standalone crap?

it's a conventional VR (Virtual Reality) HMD (Head-Mounted Display)

Attached: 7w1oywvjwhq21.jpg (3440x1440, 177K)

My backyard is the most open space I have.

Same reason people buy consoles over gaming PCs, lower price and more convenience. I'm not defending the quest but I can see why people would go for it over a more standard headset.

Oh, okay, that makes sense, but why is it being held like a controller?
Also AR > VR, you can see where you’re going and actually go outside on an adventure

To show the IPD (Interpupillary distance) slider below it and dab on Oculus (Facebook).

I think the Knuckles over the headset/hardware itself will be the bigger seller. I wouldn't be surprised if people just ripped off the Knuckles

Does it have Morrowind and Oblivion?

>AR > VR
Why the fuck would you want shit overlaid on reality instead of a fully virtual world? The videogame possibilities of AR are extremely narrow and gimmicky.

Because then you can walk through the woods fighting zombies n shit

Morrowind has a VR mod but it seems kinda dead and I don't know how good it is, Skyrim has an official VR release.

It would make LARPing better by adding experience points and spells that look real

Can you ackshually swing you sword in Skyrim?

it will be something like a new IP but set in the same universe of Half Life and Portal, good mix of shooting action and puzzle, it will have psychic powers stuff and weird guns that make things liquid, weird shit like that, with few RPG elements too

Attached: hana.gif (500x282, 555K)

Or you could just play in an actual RPG virtual world and not be limited by the shitty park down the street, the fun of LARPing is physically doing shit but that's what VR is for.

These were also recently announced:
youtube.com/watch?v=kLwJaTwoeUY
youtube.com/watch?v=xj5xD3EOqxE
youtube.com/watch?v=xjwqnsOhKnI

It's a pretty lazy port but yeah you use waggle to do stuff, there are some mods to improve it that add stuff like belt slots to store items and drawing glyphs to cast magic for example.

Why would you want to walk through the woods in AR and shoot at overlay things when you can actually go to Mars or underwater or fly a spaceship or something in VR though?

You still are physically doing shit, wtf?
That’s the point, you’re playing a video game and gettin exercise

I can't. I can see standalone headsets with sub-cutting edge graphics being a thing of the future but what we have now is already so dire it's retarded to backslide and try to open up a budget market for standalones.

Yes, but it's as half-assed as you'd expect from a bethesda product and they just map sword swings over a certain level of speed to button presses. There's no collision or physics involved like in real vr melee games.

Exercise, keeping your sword arm strong and running out of breath fighting skellies or running from zombies

>You still are physically doing shit, wtf?
Exactly, the only difference between VR and AR is that AR has the real world in the background being annoying, why not replace that with an actually fleshed out virtual world?

>New Valve VR blows comp out the water spec-price wise
>Launch Title is L4D3 releasing surprise ON LAUNCH.
>TF 3 and Portal 3 announced alongside.

It'll never happen... but post yfw it does.

Why would you not be able to do that in VR? It's the whole point.

Attached: 1554501479053.webm (1280x720, 2.92M)

>the real world
>annoying
Because trees and mountains are better in real life and staying in shape while having a good time is my perogative. I’d much rather dodge an attack from a dragon myself than see a character do it on screen

I want to run outside without tripping over shit
I like fresh air and sunshine

Guy using actual kendo techniques in VR

Attached: Kendo.webm (1920x1080, 2.98M)

You're not getting it. You can do these things with VR.

I don't think you get what VR is, it tracks your head and hands and you have to physically move around to dodge shit for example, literally the only difference in AR is that it "augments" the real world rather than replacing it.

>I like fresh air and sunshine
nigga just open a window

There's better games for sword swinging like Blade & Sorcery, Hellsplit Arena, Asgard's Wrath, Undead Citadel or GORN (although that's more comical)

i would unironically be angry if their new game was a VR tech demo

Yes, but it's a shitty half assed port by a 3rd party. The real shit is when you cast spells with voice and your hands can shoot magic in different directions.
