DGS would be worth the wait if they didn't pull a Junko Enoshima with Asougi coming back to life[\spoiler] in DGS 2

I did not like DGS. The Runaway Room was fun because it actually made you question some assumptions, the rest of the game felt really slow and like it was building up to a payoff that never came. Apparently it does in the sequel, so I might revise my opinion on it then.

6-2 I honestly don't remember why I put it in low, probably because it felt out of place in the game. The villain was pretty great, even if he was very obvious.

How exactly is that pulling a Junko?

For the most part AA games tend to have obvious villains, the cases are pretty much always set up to be more of a howcatchum than a whodunit - I like Retinz a lot because he feels properly threatening. Remember that bit where he fucking sells the entirety of Wright & Co.?

Yeah, evil Robert Downey Jr was definitely the highlight of that case. Looking back on it, I remember being annoyed at Trucy's flanderization. I'd have to play it again to remember why I put it in low instead of mid.

The way it's handled. It's basically like Junko's return from seemingly nowhere in DR2.

It was such a cocky move to make the first game seem pointless just so they could do shitty reveals like this in the sequel. I have to imagine lots of people just gave up and never bought the sequel because the first game was so poor by itself.

He's Barnham mixed with Edgeworth. I'd say he's pretty good.

DGS2 is the worst selling game in the Ace Attorney series in Japan anyway so yeah you're right with people never buying it because the first game was trash.
It does have some good twists though, too bad they're minor and overshadowed by a seemingly dead character coming back to life with no apparent reason.

He's good fun, a real opponent, and his whole demeanor of doing the most ridiculous shit and then apologizing for it is a fun schtick. I kind of like that you don't see him outside of court, it makes him more threatening.

I don't think he's up there with Edgeworth or Blackquill, but he's good.

I think every villain is fairly memorable

That said, some of the most memorable characters were the fucking jurors to me. The Russian spy showing up there with a mouse, the telegraphist lady, the forgetful surgeon - they were great.

Plus the whole twist about who burned down the town that didn't seem to matter at all in the long run.

This is typical Layton fare though. Some giant asspull to explain everything.

Yeah, that's why I didn't mention all the huge plot holes. Those are normal. But all the strands going nowhere? Feels weird.

Same people are translating 2, supposedly it's easier now they got the hardware down and made good progress already (during touching up 1)

What's the consensus on DGS2? Is it top 3 material or near? And are the cases a lot better?

It's apparently a significant improvement, and one of the best in the series.

It's a very similar game, except shit actually gets resolved from the first game. Fairly minor spoilers:
DGS1-4 is literally the first half of DGS2-2

I've got mixed thoughts about the whole thing, not quite as terrible as some people made out but it didn't blow my mind or anything either
Ryu & Susato are the best duo in the franchise so far though, think what you want about the rest of the game but this much can't be denied

I want the DGS 2 translation now. Just DGS1, while it was comfy, definitely isn't that great. It's not like AAI, where both games could be played independently, without having to play the sequel/prequel.

DGS2 spoilers: So basically, the mastermind of DGS is Hart Vortex and he, like Quercus Alba, has some kind of immunity. In the last case of DGS2, a hologram of Iris and Sherlock Holmes suddenly appears in the courtroom (mind you, the game plays in the 1900s) and they basically say "lol the queen says your immunity is gone" and this is when Vortex has his breakdown.

why does everyone hate I1 so much? Don't get me wrong, I also thought the third case was garbage, but overall, it really was a great game. I liked the reminiscence and final case a lot (albeit the final case was a bit long)

It's more like that I am mad about how lazily written this ending and her character is. Like that user previously stated, she really feels out of place.

Quality is better than quantity for me because 2-4 is fucking amazing, just for that it's my second favorite game in the franchise
