I've seen some opinions in Sh threads that 2 isnt scary why is that? I'm replaying it now and it's terrifying. I know this game is praised and shilled, but imo it's so good that anyone who is into games, should try it period. Its underrated. I also love 1, 3 and 4 by the way, but this one is great. SH thread anyway
I just dont get where does the shitty meme that SH2 isnt scarey come from. Is this to appear tough online on a chinese chatroom or something?
It was never scary. I played every mainline game when it was current and was not scared outside of SH1, and some of SH4. I found Darkwood to be a much scarier game than any SH game.
Brandon Morales
It's not a "meme". SH2 is simply the LEAST scary of the original games. It's way more subtle, whispering in tone, rather than outright terrorizing and terrifying. That's not to say that its disturbing atmosphere could not get under your skin, but compared to even SH1, it's a cake walk in terms of spooks.
Austin Morgan
redpilled I'd add some parts of SH3
Elijah Cox
People are desensitized to horror in media

Leans more on the dread and anticipation part, plus toys around with a unique family theme - kids, mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters...there's a certain love for them, a bloodbound one. But wife, well shit, you have to put your life in the hands of a complete stranger. SH2 explores this. It had its scary as shit moments ofc but not as many as the other entries. imo sanpai, SH4 gave me white hair. Scared straight from the trailer. Plus SH4 OST (including enviromental tracks) was the best by a huge margin out of the entire series.
Nicholas Sullivan
what are some of the best SH4 ost songs? I know room of angel, waiting for you and your rain, which are all great btw. I liked that game a lot but couldnt finish it, I got stuck on some puzzle or some combat scenario, can't remember. The story and world was great, but gameplay clunky
Jaxson Watson
Along the ones you mentioned, The last mariachi, lament of dissonance, crucifixion, pulsation ambiance, hauntings 1 and 2, ashfield. i could name dozens more, it's pure genius. i've heard that yamaoka used for the songs and environment themes real life sounds that strike some primal fear in us like metal scraping, dentist tools, muscle tissue stretching suddenly, screams from when people have nightmares etc etc. brilliant work
William Lewis
sounds good. I wish those soundtracks werent so scarce on the pirate sites though
Benjamin Perez
Scariest things about SH2 is the awkward gameplay and terrible voice acting.
Michael Gomez
go on you tube and search for the complete 100% ost. here's for sh 4. i think this guy has a video for each sh game not sure though. download them and have fun youtube.com/watch?v=y6jde1zuAhg also search for the unreleased best off sh compilation torrent. it was a 3-4 disk unreleased compilation of all the best songs with lyrics from the series from the first one up until 2010. unfortunately konami did not release it but its on torrent. it's around 500-600 mb if i'm not mistaking.
Ryan Miller
It's really scary your first playthrough and significantly less so later. The atmosphere of the apartments for example is incredibly eerie, so much so that I had to stop playing and go back to it across several days, but once you know when Pyramid Head is going to show up and that nothing bad even happens really in places like the apartments or the jail, it loses a lot of intensity. This is why most fans of the game talk more about it now for the music, plot, voice acting, lore, and characters now than the direct spooks, because there's just no good way to create something that's scary every time.
Brandon Lopez
bumpity bump up you go, sh thread always welcome.
Leo Cruz
SH2 has more of a depressing atmosphere rather than an outright scary one. Almost all the enemies are weak.
Jacob Stewart
I dunno, it scared me when I played it a few years ago. Especially the prison and the labyrinth
Playing for the first time right now. Arrived on the prison. the game is really good, pretty creepy overall, but the scariest moment was on the apartments, when some fucking whisper come from nowhere, i almost shitted myself
SH2 is the least scary. SH3 is the one that gets me panicking the fuck out, a lot of times over nothing. youtube.com/watch?v=w5J7apoX9U8
Gavin Kelly
sh2 got lot of mist and chill beats, its very comfy half of the time, but can be absolutely terrifying sometimes,
i think sh3 made me feel most uneasey, then half of the sh4 very uneasy after your safe space room is ivaded by ghosts and you get stuck with half paralyzed woman.
Must say that silent hill one is aged like a vine that has been in some old ship shipwreck, really valuable and looks scary as hell.
Noah Richardson
What's the scariest part of Silent Hill for everyone?
For me the most scary part was B appearing in the elevator in the Hospital in 1. I was playing it with a friend and we both went nuts and didn't want to press it.
In 2 it was the hangman area in the Prison. There are footsteps the appear to run around the edge of the courtyard but the fog is so thick you can never see if anything is actually there or not. Was also playing with a friend and we closed our eyes and legged it out of the area.
To me that's proper fear in games. Not jump scares but the game making you want to stop playing.
Chase Wood
Fever chill They are easy to find in high quality with a simple google search
Lucas Jones
By the time you jump down like the 5th scary dark hole in the prison the game stopped being scary
Still pretty good though
Easton Murphy
in silent hill 3 brookhaven when you go up the ladder and see valtiel turning up the gas, and next time you go out the door into hospital and see how all have been gone into literal hell mode. that gots me every time
The Historical Society up until the Eddie fight is one of the scariest stretches in gaming, maybe even the scariest
Brandon Rogers
SH3 funnily enough stops being scary once you get to Silent Hill, at least for the most part anyway. The Otherworld sections are still pretty horrifying.
A lot of anons pretend not to be scarred of anything. And honestly SH2 isnt traditionally scary, like in your face. Its unsettling and haunting, it shows you enough to creep you out but lets your mind do the rest of the work. The prison barely has straight up scares but is easily the creepiest place to me.
Essentially its like living in a nightmare. It gets in your head and makes you question whats real.
Brayden Martinez
SH2 comes across still to this day to me as the most saddest and depressioncore video game ever made. This might have a lot to do with it. A ton of its music gives a depressing feel to it as well. I think it works well with the game and horror games in general but I can see why many wouldn't think its scary and this is one of the reasons.
John Edwards
Just checked the credits, it was 3 fucking people. 4 if you count the recording engineer.
Anyway Alien Isolation is the gold star in sound design for modern games in general. Even if it never gets under your skin like the old SH games did.
Mount the ISOs of 2 & 3, and then run their installers like always. DON'T use W10's own virtual disc app! Don't install under C:\Program Files\ ! The SH1 is a PS1 rip that you gotta emulate.
Follow the SH2 widescreen fix site's instructions to the teeth, and you should be fine. For 3 & 4, check the Guide.
>Protips: Play the games in release order, and don't play on Easy mode. Multiple playthroughs per game is very recommended. Lower the in-game Brightness, crank up volume. Turning OFF flashlight helps a ton!
I've always said that SH wouldn't be half as good as it is without Akira Yamaoka's score
Jose Nelson
silent hill 3 has pretty multilayered story in the end it is teen girls nightmare to give birth to godlike entity while being tormented by this wetnurse that is prepairing you for that, but if heather really is tainted vessel of god and only exists to split her soul for eternity doesent that make a order stupid for trying to give birth to god because that will never happen, maby its some japanese thing for saying cultist and religions are based on wrong things believes. order still aknowledges the godess that most likely is heather/alessa/cheryll and who knows how many people before them.
Hudson Harris
The music alone makes this opening scene one of the most gripping scenes in vidya, and it's just a guy monologuing while look over a town.
Josiah Morales
silent hill and hotline miami are examples how much good sound/music design can do to your game, it can ramp up the atmosphere and overall feel so much.
Bentley Campbell
Thanks a lot pal, I needed that one to save.
I know it's a SH thread but gonna post old RE DL links for anyone who somehow hasn't played em or want it on pc.
I've always said that audio-work is perhaps THE most important game design aspect that may benefit the title the most, but which gets overlooked way too often.
