fuck you
there will never be another mmorpg as good as ragna
I want a game like RO to play again. Or alternatively a good, lowrate, pre-renewal server with a high population.
>Body Relocates behind you
>"Heh..."
>Body relocates a mile away
>Summons anal beads
>Body Relocates behind you again
>"No thing personell, kid"
>Body Relocates a mile away again
>Spirit Guns you for all your health
>Body Relocates away
Why were Champions so based?
home.
>runescape bros get their golden age
>RO fans get a fucking mobile port
don't bother
I tried it many times, it's just not the same
reminder that first time you booted the game and you just wanted to get those trunks so you could become archer also
S>red potion 44z/u
gravity is legit braindead
gungho haet ragnarok online and gaijin
this servers so shit its full of dupes and the absolutely hilarious infinite sp bug
>archer
don't lie
EVERYONE went thief as their first char
How fucking hard is it to make an MMO like Ragnarok Online? ToS was just complete garbage and had everything what made modern MMO shit, like limited tradeability on items, etc.
where are the blacks, trans and furries?
Furry is already there.
Need some phat beats.
youtube.com
ywn be farming those red minotaurs in GH with your bros for weeks to level up to 99 again. I want to go back
Only edgy retards like you
The perfect music to say "get ready nigga, you going on a JOURNEY"
youtube.com
It still makes me unnerved. I dont know how to explain.
It will never be done again. Every MMO ever will always have a forced story shit with stupid cutscenes and gigatons of handholding because that's "proved to keep players engaged!" until it dies out and servers close and everyone starts calling the next big piece of shit the saviour of MMOs
An MMO like Ragnarok just wouldn't work with today's market. That's about it, in my opinion. Ragnarok and lots of other MMOs from back then were a byproduct of their time.
>How fucking hard is it to make an MMO
I'd guess the hard part is selling it to publishers who only care about normalfag WoW clones, and would probably laugh you out of the room as soon as you tell mention there's no quest markers and you want to force players to interact with each other.
fug
So when they scrapped RO2 The Gate of the World did they really scrap the brilliant Yoko Kanno soundtrack with it?
is there any other game where you class/build determined what maps you could farm solo? it was pretty cool
I just wanted to make the sakkat hat when I first started cause back then I was watching samurai anime and shit.
Superior theme coming through
youtube.com
>I totally wasn't an edgy retard when I was 14
yeah ok buddy
Why was Gravity so retarded? They somehow managed to strike gold with RO but they never made a single worthwhile thing after it. inb4 ROSE fags
Some people will claim it was due to some kind of Kim Hakkyu magic but that can't be it. I mean Granado Espada and Tree of Savior were both terrible compared to RO.

Official thread theme
>tfw the cool as fuck trans weapons DIDN'T have unique sprites AND were all shit except for Giant Axe
Why
There won't be another MMO with the same feel as RO since it already hit all the right points.
With modern design, monster card drops would be inside of loot boxes and still just as rare
If you want to see an improved 2.5d mmo, you need to be very critical of the low points in RO.
Some unbalanced/borderline useless classes, cards and card stacking, upgrades making top players borderline invincible.
The worst part imo is the weak bosses; you strictly need a specialized setup and basically max level to deal with them and they'll oneshot you otherwise.
Another thing is that money simply isn't used for much in the game (really only potions) so passively there isn't much value in the economy.
What it really nailed was the progression, with each leap in classes feeling like a massive power spike and playstyle change.
Maybe the worst part is how it's optimal to build your character strictly to farm 1 or 2 maps for an excessive time to progress.
I'm relieved I wasn't the only one bothered by this.
>tfw your PC bricks and you lose all your screenshots of your first char
I never thought I'd care this much about that shit
>8
More like 16
>killing female PCs in PVP where they were chatting and backstep spamming and cloaking to get away
>that riot of players following you afterwards
best fucking time of my life
Yeah one of the problems with RO itemization was that low level, high slotted weapons were better than pretty much everything else.
>that image itself is now 8 years old
To this day I still don't get why people used pvp as a chat room.
>always a hunter spaming detecting
damn that was fun
>mfw seeing I wasn't the only who did this
it would always create a fucking shitstorm. her orbiters would descend on you like ants.
>tfw Stalker
>Stealth
>Preserve
>Backstab
>Full Strip
>Snatch
God i fucking LOVED stalkers. They were objectively pretty shit in for MvPing and WoE, but they are so fucking annoying in PvP. It was hilarious watching people call their guildies to try and stop me.
>mfw I lost the screenshot of me getting lvl 99 in iRO with my Rogue
incels
this is why i cast safety wall on female players on pvp areas
You also casted it on your virginity lmao.
>good, lowrate, pre-renewal server with a high population
They don't exist in 2019. Ragnarok Online is actually dead now.
But a guild leader stalker with GTB was objectively the best tool you could have for WoE!
Nobody would play it. Even the people that are nostalgic for RO wouldn't play the game today. It was a thing of its time.
We can still learn from its design though. Progression, organic world building, lore, stat system, item balance, item progression. All of it came together to form a 10/10 MMORPG.
>safety wall
grimtooth gg ez are you even trying white knight?
Legend of the Second uses some of it.
Posting best song. Ninja best class.
AAAAAAAAAAAAA
it's a mix of arrogance and desperately wanting to stand out.
How would you guys make an MMO inspired by RO that could work with today's players? We know the basic formula wouldn't work and it would need a lot of workarounds, but there's a lot of room for innovation, I feel.
don't forget pvp that was fun, as janky as it was at times, particularly woe
pvp in modern mmos sucks there's rarely any stakes in it, the last time i had good fun playing pvp was in guild wars and that too was years ago
fighting to win heroes ascent against the koreans and the europeans to get into fow and uw was a blast
Honestly can't.
People who play MMOs today would never be able to handle shit like competing for MVPs. Hell I dont think even FFXIV has those sorts of monsters like FFXI did.
>boomers and millennial 2d game
Y I K E S
people play diablo clones though. And I mean in a sense RO kinda plays similar to diablo in MMO form and more chill.
I can see people playing it honestly.
>you are not the chosen one
>nothing in particular is happening in the world
>quests are always about you just being a bystander that happened to be available
>no cooldown, limit actions with SP and spamming speed by AGI/DEX
>no "quality of life" improvement that kill player interaction
>only one person keeps MvP drops, not everyone that fucking hit the thing
>broken items that are semi impossible to get, like God Items, MvP Cards, etc
>a fucking ton of hats and cosmetics
>needs to be extremely light and run on toasters, you can display dozens of people on-screen without slow downs
This for a start.
if you can display 5000 players on a screen then its a start
Fucking this
>kill girl a few times
>she calls her beta friends for help
>they aren't good enough beat me or protect her
>proceed stomp em till they leave pvp
I loved the RO pvp freedom, no forced faction or battleground/game mode bullshit.
What time period did you guys play?
>2002 to 2011
is when I played it actively. I was 12 years old when I first touched RO. I still remember the first day I logged in. I remember going to just south of Prontera and it was FILLED with people. This was my first experience with an MMO and I was blown away. It really felt like I had been transported to another world.
>you are not the chosen one
you just lost 90% of the nu MMO fanbase .
I feel that there needs to be a balance between both types of PvP. Lots of people want to fight but don't want to waste valueable resources in non-progression activities while others don't see a point unless they can benefit/other don't lose.
For instance, Tree of Savior field wars were fun although they were absolutely inconsequential(lose nothing, spend nothing) but half of the population abstained from it because there was nothing to gain either.
Everyone wants to play a linear, single player experience these days. You can see this because they always love instance content but will loathe the idea of competing for any world-wide resources like bosses or even common monsters.
I wish I could remember... It was so long ago...
that was the greatest thing about RO, the gameplay freedom. you could literally take over a busy PvP room with just 3 guildies if you knew what you were doing.
you'd NEVER see something like that nowadays. people would literally shit themselves and instantly start calling for nerfs.
do you guys still playing it? which server?
>2003 to 2015
>100% full time NEET during 2009~2010
>played it for so long I became the server admin
>made my own servers will multiple hundreds of players, twice
>played the ratemyserver.net WoE tournament in 2009(broke the first Emperium of that legendary WoE)
>total of 26000 hours
If I could go back in time, I would do it all over again.
>Map start totally black except starting citiea abd some ports.
>End game is basically mix of .hack fields and PoE maps except if someone runs the same combination you are going to be in the same instance
>MvP existd but they are hidden/conditional/quest gated across the world and maps.
>"But user, all that shit wouod be datamined in days"
Here is the kicker
> It is the first MMO published as Games as a Service so nobody can datamine
cant remember the year but i remember there was no novice training ground when i started
played a swordsman until just a couple levels to second job got bored created a merchant to sell shit
WOE patch happens, got new shit so i got another motivation
it was a shit str dex vit build but i manage it to lvl80 before creating a new one along with friends
I remember it being early 2000 and on the first day I became friends with a guy from ukraine
I was a thief and he was a swordsman and our party didn't work at all but we had so much fun anyway.
Still talk to him once in a while after all those years, though he barely comes online since he has a kid now.
MMOs are very strong candidates for game streaming though, I'd support this even though I hate the games-as-service thing in general. The ping's already huge because everyone is connecting from around the world and it would prevent both datamining AND cheating, perhaps even botting to a certain point.
I don't know why, but the Toy Factory is really nostalgic to me. Just remind me of good times + nice christmas atmosphere.
>mfw dueling with other champs
>flash stepping around like anime to chase and dodge
>absorbing each others orbs to deny the other the asura/fingers
Everything was really tied together and it worked extremely well with duels. Like Champ vs Champ, Prof vs Prof, Ninja vs Ninja.
>tfw grinding there for hours just to sell cakes
I used the Sniper's talking trap skill, cast them under sitting characters and write stupid shit like " *sitting char's name*: im so fucking gay"
TF was fucking great. One of my favorite grinding spots for the 30~60 range.
it wasn't the most optimal, but that's the thing about RO you didn't have to do what everyone else was doing.
They dropped good items too. OBB's, pearls, cakes.
For a poorfag beginner that place was great for a decent bit of zenny farming.
for me it's comodo beach
I can still hear the fucking seals though
Probably the most baffling thing about the game in comparison to today: you actually had options of where to grind. Some places were better but riskier, others were suitable for certain classes but not others.
I like all of that and the idea of not being able to be datamined is definitely something that would work well with a Ragnarok esque MMO. Well, with any MMO for that matter. But a pretty big point would be getting rid of the delay (or at least get it to a manageable level), especially because of bigger fights and PvP.
Exactly. TF grinding wasn't as fast as others and the potential drops weren't as good (aside from cakes as someone else mentioned), but the upsides were that it was pretty damn easy and safe + laid back.
shit like that literally does not exist in modern game design.
And then renewal just threw that notion away and gave you a strict leveling path...
Fuck you you're fucking making me want to play again
My favorite place were the Payon Forest maps. The various music tracks, the atmosphere, I loved it. Also, undersea dungeon holds a lot of memories.

RIP RO
Ragnarok mobile EL is a good successor IF only the gacha/P2W is not so fucked up and the people handling it is not on some bullshit.
And that's why Kekneval was the final nail in the coffin for RO.
we don't have to talk about renewal
>auto-level button
No thanks.
Renewal had some good ideas but it was mixed up with a bunch of stuff that was pointless, inferior or straight up bad. Half of it was necessary changes.
I miss my old crew. It was the only mmo where there were days we would all log in to get to our "spot" and just hang and talk after work/school and not even play. It was so fucking comfy and relaxing.
Payon forest was the home of wolves. I mobbed these fuckers so hard I had 3 wolf cards by the time I was done leveling there.
Ragnarok has aged like a pile of dog puke, user. The gameplay is just dumb and broken and horribly unbalanced. Pretty much every MMO after it was better.
....but that doesn't stop me from having a giant nostalgia boner for the 2-3 years I played it.
it won't be the same, user.
I remember my first Knight. I was poking GGs with a shit pike as a swordsman and taking ages. For some reason a knight was going by and just gave me a halberd with a sidewinder card in it...
at it's core gameplay-wise it's shit
the community is what made it great
>For some reason a knight was going by and just gave me a halberd with a sidewinder card in it...
kek
>broken
Wizard was my favorite class. Ice wall trapping was so good for leveling. A shame it only works on official servers since eA doesn't have the bug.

Thanatos Tower? more like KINO Tower
Shit that doesn't happen today because anything worth owning is character/account bound. The reason I played so much as probably because a random guy gave me a full donation item set and then walked away.
>TFW you get a wild thara frog card drop just passing through the caves on your way to farm some seals.
shit was SO cash
RO PvP should be an EVO event, if smash bros can make it in
I was kind of obsessed with Memory of Thanatos when he first came out. I don't know why but he just seemed like such a cool boss. I looked up the meaning of his name and it made me even more interested in him
I must have walked 100+ people through this place's quest. I did it so many fucking times that I even knew all the different versions and revisions it received along the years.
Desire Sensor is a real thing.
All they need to do is this
>Modern client with better interface, option to move via WASD as well, or keep it mouse only if you prefer
>Higher resolution land textures
>Quest system that adds structure to the game instead of "kill mobs on map 1, then map 2, repeat until max"
And you'd have the best MMO ever
>THAT pic with the priestess AFK and orcs cumming all over her
>woke something inside me
>would go around towns, PMing sitting girls messages about cumming all over them
>1 in 6 would react. Even smaller fraction would be into it.
>discover erp is a thing
I want to go back.
I'll never forget the Assassin with a sakat who tanked for my really shitty archer, in the desert south of Prontera, the first time I ever played the game. Thanks, bro. I hope you're well.
>>Quest system that adds structure to the game instead of "kill mobs on map 1, then map 2, repeat until max"
yeah nah you're a cunt
Aren't they even currently doing a test phase for a Re-renewal? I remember seeing some things about it.
I agree with you but that's only cause I've played and loved RO already.
Bring a brand new player to the game and how do you think they'd react to how RO is set up now?
I wish the sakkat had a lategame version with +2 agi the thing looked kino on assassins.
>get a random Vitata card just as I was leaving ant hell
>didn't seem very useful to me so I said WTS> Vitata card 300k since that was a lot of money for me at the time
>literally seconds later someone buys it from me
>later on in the day a friend of mine tells me that card was EASILY worth 3.5 mill
This happened like 9 years ago and I still think about it to this day.
some people like grinding, look at diablo and its clones.
Who leika here?
A valuable lesson goy
Bet you scoped the prices from that day on
I agree and I love the Diablo games too. I'm just saying a lot of current players don't like games like this anymore. MMOs in general are in huge decline.
Yeah, it's strange. Some of my best memories are from playing that game. Just sitting below prontera and hanging out, talking to people.
Grinding for what seemed like an eternity in payon dungeon because for some reason I was afraid to go anywhere else.
Finally getting up to Crusader and feeling an immense satisfaction from getting through the job quest.
But, what you're saying is true. Every year or two I get the feeling to bring it up again and I just can't bear to play it more than week or two. The magic there is gone and it only lives on in the memories. My only hope now is that sometime soon a VR mmo will capture the same feeling once the tech gets there. I feel like that's the only way an experience like that can exist again.
This. The problem isn't grinding, the problem is that RO is LITERALLY a 19 year old game.
If someone remade RO with an ACTUAL budget, gave it shiny 3D graphics similar to RO Mobile, gave it a better introduction tutorial and made the game's movement/comebat smoother then people would EAT IT UP.
The problem isn't grinding, the problem is the lack of polish, quality of life features and shiny graphics that surround the grinding.
If in doubt, do not name the price. Go for negotiation first. See how many will bite your offer then ask them the price.
Never again did I sell items on a whim after that kek.
Dark Souls gameplay
>played the localization from Alpha up till shortly after Rogue was released
I miss those days so much. Just goofing off and farming Argiopes with my hunter was so fun despite it being ultra monotonous.
They needed to exploit the card system more. Non top tier card drops should have been exponentially more common. You should have had oodles of trash cards to play around with in order to make gimmick weapons.
>Quest system that adds structure to the game instead of "kill mobs on map 1, then map 2, repeat until max"
Fuck you. That'd make it worse.
Allow me to educate you guys a little about this game's code. The original source code of the game leaked near launch, which is what caused it to spawn so many private servers. The official software that runs Ragnarok is what we call Aegis.
By looking at Aegis it was clear that Hakkyu Kim and the people that made it were shit developers, it was utterly garbage as far as performance goes. People have since created many different projects to improve on the original sofware. The original pservers that appeared were made in an emulator called Freiya. By 2006 it was already outdated and quickly replaced by another project called eAthena.
Today, there are two competing projects for Ragnarok Online private servers: rAthena and Hercules. They are both the exact same RO except with different features. Both are leagues ahead of the official server software and have their own strong points.
This is the reason why bugs in official servers are often times missing from pservers, and vice versa. See On the other hand, the client itself isn't as cracked wide open. The ragexe, that is the .exe file that actually runs the game, has never been cracked. Every change that is done to this file is done by reverse engineering it and doing hex edits directly on the official .exe file and that's about as good as it gets. The community around developing these projects is huge and they would have done massive visual improvements on the game, but they can't because we can't crack open the .exe.
If we could, we'd see the game running on any system, as a FPS game, as a VR game, or anything your heart could imagine.
The various ways you could make it broken is what made it fun. Coming up with bizarre builds was really fun
Did a lot of players ever like games like this, though? I think one of the biggest problems facing MMOs these days is that the projected audience is massively overinflated because everyone thinks they should be able to get 10mil players like WoW did, but the audience for WoW and its clones isn't the audience for traditional MMOs at all.
I love how diverse RO forests were. Payon forest was a perfect place to relax
I MISS IT BROS
>They needed to exploit the card system more. Non top tier card drops should have been exponentially more common. You should have had oodles of trash cards to play around with in order to make gimmick weapons.
Honestly RO is a game that has some of the highest potential I've seen in video gaming. That's why it's so sad how hard Gravity mismanaged the franchise.
RO was filled to the brim with brilliant ideas and design philosophies that could have been fleshed out and polished in a sequel, but it never happened.
It's time to admit RO wouldn't work these days. Our way of life is simply faster, entertainment is far easier to get and people are used to games being guided experiences. Think back to the original game: wandering about not really knowing where to go, killing stuff, suddenly jumped by a Vocal and being surprised by this rare monster. Today that wouldn't happen because you would know where to go, know what to do and more importantly, even if the game was really open ended, your experience lets you know boss monsters are a thing. You wouldn't be as surprised.
It's over. RO was a once in a lifetime.
Because WoW. Blizzard have an annoying habit of reducing games to the lowest common denominator and ruining the genre forever.
Games like RO came out when there was no precedent, so everything was experimental and crazy. That's what added to the charm. If you play any MMO today, you go into it already knowing what to expect
It got some things right that modern mmo will never get right because of the economics of it all.
>No hand holding
There was nothing telling you you need to go to X town to do your job quest so you were forced to meet people in game and ask questions. This creates community
>No limitations
Kind of combines with the first point that they didn't hold your hand even in skill and stat points. Want to spec a wizard with strength and agility and low int? Sure go ahead. If you have the right cards you might be able to make it work. They gave you a weapon and told you to fuck off and figure things out on your own. New mmo hardly let you manage your character progression in any meaningful way, everything is on rails and party finder for dungeons that are 100% instanced means nobody ever has a reason to meet people removing the "massively" part from MMO.
But people want to be spoonfed and studios want a bigger audience so we'll never have something this good ever again.
These mechanics could be applied in any mmo with better fighting mechanics but they scare casuals so it will never happen.
That's the thing, RO doesn't need a sequel or a successor, it needs people to understand what made it good and work on those features with new content. Look at what happened with Tree of Savior, it went with this whole thing of being a spiritual successor to RO and even a similar artstyle and not it's struggling to stay afloat.
youtu.be
Such and eerie theme
I played wizard and got kekd for it. Switched to priest and instantly became rich. Fuck wizard.
>Ragnork Hentai
>Just PCs getting fucked by orcs or other PCs
Fuck
Sort of this. Even if there were no quest markers or enemy hp you would still just look up a guide online to be spoon-fed.
>Spent the better part of my high school years farming zeny in niff
I want to go back
I miss this shit. I remember when I was a fresh Knight, some faggot pretending to be Sephiroth would walk towards me on his Peco-Peco (I was retarded and couldn't unlock it yet because I didn't level Endure) and he'd challenge me to a duel, casting Magnum Break near me. I remember almost shitting my pants in fear and just pretended to be AFK.
God I miss shit like this, those were simpler times
>10 years ago you could brag about being trans and nobody thought you were a fag
kek
>nobody would play it
That's just retarded. Tree of Savior was known just as a vague spiritual successor and still pulled over 50k concurrent players on launch.
You don't need hundreds of thousands of active players to be successful, the challenge is making the game development and maintenance cheap enough to match its niche market, in a way that you're not forced into bullshit gameplay-affecting microtransactions which drives away a large portion of the player base.
ro classes were just so fun, even priests were better than the vast majority of mmos since they could get 100 vit/10k hp, negate most status effects and do the same job as a tank. pvp and woe was really fun and rewarding if you were in a good guild or had friends to hop around guilds. i had a ghostring and all sorts of shit on iro chaos but i haven't touched it since before renewal so i have no idea what things are like now. if its anything like the pservers for renewal where shits level 175 max, i'll just keep my fond memories
Same. Fucking kek
Share your stories, faggots
>Monk starts casting asura strike
>Gets Acid Bombed
Nothin personell, kid
I was there, I was huge ToS fag. CBTs, kOBTs, Early Access, you name it and I was there. The whole spiritual successor thing came because Kim Hakkyu was working on it and it LOOKED LIKE an old skool MMO but then it slowly turned into modern MMO trash. Oh and it's literally the worst optimized game in the history of vidya.
Even at launch though, half of its was already at breakaway from Ragnarok Online philosophies already. 100% linear and entirely quest based.
Spamming Storm Gust, Meteor and Lord of Vermilion on Prontera to make poorfags drop their connection was cash.
The fact that there's still people that hear "remember when RO was a thing" and get time-warped back to their childhood and the mood gets all happy and joyful is one fucking beautiful feeling.
Love y'all you bastards. It was simply the best time play online, period.
Tera online style combat with ro drop and stat system. Fuck the casual audience. Bosses would be harder and beating then would be an accomplishment, not a requirement. No quest markers. Form a community and encourage talking to figure shit out. No instanced dungeons and mobs will chase you down forever, not to a set distance. Allow griefing. WoE style with black desert levels of consequence like tax on the regions controlled. Hitting level cap is hard if not impossible but not important because the game would be about fun with the community, not muh ebin raiding.
Everytime I see RO thread I want to go back and fuck you OP for creating another one.
Would you play a Yea Forums RO server?
Limited time only(maybe 2 or 3 months), around December~February.
No donations, no VIP, just vidya.
>putting warp portals under the kafra respawn points
>all those novices going to glast
i used to use warp twice when i'd go anywhere too just because there was always going to be fags who wanted a free ride to anywhere so i always sent the first one wherever the most random place i had saved was
Based wizard bro cleansing the servers
that sucks, I was starting to get somewhat interested in ToS with the shilling I see around here sometimes thinking it'd have the freedom of RO but I guess I was wrong
no
I want RO HD with hi-res sprites so I can go back to erping in it.
fuck no
The mobile one is very cute.
But still no Taekwon.
I ran a Yea Forums server 2, 3 years ago. It was great fun for a while but in the end everyone is just too busy working and just ends up spending a few hours on it during the weekends once the initial nostalgia rush is over. Then death.
>2003, in one of those places where you could pay by the hour to play games
>go there often, buddies with a bunch of people there including the owner (small place so he is the actual dude behind the counter)
>owner tells me he got a cool new game, wants to show me
>helps me create an account and everything
>I immediately walk to the field and get killed by a Creamy
>get laughed at
Great times
You are late. I won't lie, Tree of Savior was the most fun I've had since Ragnarok, it was true gold at launch. It did have some capital flaws(performance, security issues, Korean) but it was serviceable.
But then then whale-friendly updates started coming. And as the content ran out they instead fed us tons of daily chores to do instead, turning the game into a second job. And then they pussied the game by allowing guilds to become neutral(immune to being declared war upon) with literal no consequence. Up until that point it was very popular because the PKing and guild warring was brutal, until they straight patched it out. About 1/3 of the playerbase quit that week.
But it's missing what made RO good in the first place. Freedom. ToS is plenty fun but that doesn't change the fact that I'm essentially forced to follow the quest line if I want to progress.
Wish I could but I've got a real job now. Playing ro only worked when I was in middle school because I didn't have shit to do.
Kinda similar thing happened to me.
>first time I ever got something valuable, a Creamy Card
>open up store to sell it, happily put it up for (don't remember exact value, this was like 2004) lets say 1 million
>go to bed
>wake up, notice I typed up only five zeroes instead of six
>of course it's fucking gone
I MISS ALL THE PEOPLE I MET
ALL THE FUN I HAD
THE SIMPLER TIMES
IT HAUNTS ME THE FACT THAT THESE MEMORIES ARE JUST THE PAST AND THAT I WILL NEVER EXPERIENCE A SIMILAR ADVENTURE IN MY LIFE
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
>tfw when I couldn't play I'd watch the shitty anime and dream of RO
youtube.com
>tos is plenty of fun
how?
I started a character and it's boring as fuck
you instakill everything and you can't die
also, too many quests
the only good thing is the cuteness of the game and maybe the ost
I knew about eAthena, but not about the .exe thing. Always wondered why the changes were so limited. That's sad, my dude.
It was fun to discover things before the wikis and guides. Also it wasn't always easy, the PvE used to be brutal until the lazy MMO hoppers came around and cried that it was too hard for them. Korea then made it so that monsters did 1 damage if you wore armor you found in the ground at all points in the game.
It's always this vocal minority ruining MMOs, fuck them.
I would if I hadn't become an old man with crippling bone issues and playing click-heavy games like RO physically hurts
ToS is nothing like RO.
man those times where the prime of my life
>first job after school (not that much hours of work but oaky money)
>first car
>girst gf
>playing ro every day for hours
>was yound and feeling invincible
today is so much worth beeing a boomer and hating myself, slaving my days in a company and struggles left and right.
What made RO was the community and the vague lore of the world. everyone was just another member of the society of rune midgard. there was no story telling "YOU ARE THE CHOSEN ONE".
it was: A MILLENIA OLD THREAT APPEARED GO FIGHT IT ALONG SIDE AN ENTIRE KINGDOM
What made RO, Rune Escape, Priston Tale, Flyff, Tibia, Mu and many other late 90s to mid 00s MMOs were the community driven style. Modern MMO, thanks to WoW, are online-only single player theme park bullshit
now change the 8 for 15
Someone revives/rog/ fast!
there are thousands of private servers of RO across the globe. and many people, like me,always go back playing it. hell, look at teh servers issues ToS had thanks to insane amount of players it got during the closed beta.
>thanks to WoW
More like The Burning Crusade, the original WoW was pretty much the same as what you described before and it's most likely the reason why people want it back.
>early 00s kids and teenagers
>not being edgylords
even the chads and stacies were edgy in the 00s
I played in the beta/release and the game was "harder", or at least I remember I had to put more effort to kill an enemy
now I just use one skill and everything explodes
>never again
not fair
Hell even mabinogi got some things right with the gates being locked until players were strong enough to unlock them which left your names etched on the door. That or just gathering around a campfire to play weeb music on a guitar. MMO have no soul because they developed the need for community away.
Need to run a dungeon? Just queue. Not sure where to do? Just follow the maker. Not sure how to spec your class? Don't worry, you literally can't.
not him but I started as a swordman and after becoming crusader I tried acolyte
not everyone is a faglord like you guys
wow
that's a really old asanagi pic
*hide your asura strike*
pssst.. nothing personal kid.
asanagi knows our pain too
/bangbang
/doridori
lmao that would have haunted me for a while
>Ancient Japanese Shadman
wait what
explain pls
what dupes and what bug
Fuck.........
I'll never go back to 2004-2005....
>RO III with character design by asanagi
*actually had ruwach active all along*
get rekt kid
>he thinks you can't time your hide perfectly to bypass your blue light
I see you are pleb
>grand tip bag
same happened with me with a poo poo hat, back in the day when there were no berets. But I didn't set a price so a I didn't jew myself as hard. It was one my first week of playing back in 2004, got enough zeny to buy full top tier npc gear. Back than I thought I was fucking pimping
>search up Ragnarok doujins
>4/5ths are NTR/rape
Fuck this cuck shit. The hentai scene for RO is garbage.
what was the most fun class in woe bros?
best MVP theme coming through
youtube.com
>mfw I got 1 million zeny I felt like I was the richest fucker at the block and just afk sell potions at popular levelling spots at a low cost almost for free just because I have the zeny
Fuck I miss the game so much bros.
all of them were fun in their own way but my personal favorite was Knight and later Lord Knight
>that faggot that summoned MVPs at low level entrances of the cities
Since every single one of you is a brother of mine I feel it`s my duty to point out that they finished the Ragnarok manwha sometime ago. Go read it bros.
>that faggot Priest who offered free Teleport service but actually sent people to the middle of fucking nowhere
I was that faggot
Knight or crusader i guess as long as its vit type
imagine holding up a whole guild trying to kill you on the entrance
>its actually true
holy shit thanks user
I never played this game but I always watched my big brother play it
I was like five and I was already in love with (snake or slime?) that had their teat-less breasts exposed
Best theme
it was Isis, she was more like a snake, and they censored her tits it some years ago
>Not being a machine gun holy cross crusader and mowing down people
I really loved that build.
Whaaaaaaaaaaat?
tfw i mained knight but people thought i was retarded for using spear without peco.
Don't lie about things like that my dude
Yup it was her. Thanks user
the great thing about RO was exactly that, you could play however the fuck you wanted and still get shit done
(not using Peco as a Knight IS pretty retarded but it looks badass I'll give you that)
Redpill: RO pservers only fun with 600+ real players (not autovend or multis)
Redpill: Ro pservers only fun with the naked sprite set
A bit different but it was so fun to jump into random portals.
Fuck you guys i didnt want these feels
Are there anons playing RO related games like RBO? Surprisingly good beat em up, even better if you have someone to play with.
There are no populated, good pre-re RO servers left.
So? All sites I've checked only go to the same point it stopped ten billion years ago, including mangafox from your image. Also,
>mangafox
youtube.com
>tfw sitting around outside the clocktower for hours waiting for a priest willing to work with you in magma just because you couldn't afford a raydric card
FUCK
ToS is not a bad game but is not really what RO players wanted. To be fair, the game is just Granado Espada with RO style graphics (which is good to me since I was a huge GE fag)
Tree of Savior Really only looked like RO on the surface. It didn't have the feel of being dropped in a world left to explore it at your own pace. ToS didn't open up till some like past lvl 100. I haven't touched it since launch so maybe it has changed.
I don't have time to drop in an MMO like RO like I did as a kid. I'm a 32 year boomer.
Due to getting hacked and losing most of their original data they completely switched gears towards what RO was going to be about. Everything that was in the first year or so was still technically a beta as other continents, races, abilities, and more was going to be added to the game down the road. The original karma meter was still accessible on your character menu for ages yet it was never properly enabled as they completely dropped it after the hacking incident. Same with the day/night and weather cycles.
>day/night and weather cycles
Fuck, that would have been so cool.
I always get super horny when I remember RO so fuck this thread
Lutee's constant snow was actually a test run for the weather cycle but it murdered a lot of low range computers' frame rate back then so they didn't take it any further. I remember on my old Gateway computer it was a laggy shitfest unless I disabled the falling snow. effect.
Heh yeah, same with the relic I was stuck on back then. I still had it kicking around when Einbroch came around and that was even worse. If I forgot to hit /effect before leaving the airship, I practically had to force reset the thing...
all modern mmos are all about trying to make an online actionish rpg and shoving people through the linear content as fast as possible so they can use as little server time as possible to cut down on hosting costs, this is antithetical to what mmorpgs should be which are online chatrooms where you sit around and talk, that's why they're all instance 20 player servers
they got yoko kanno to do soundtrack?
its a good game but I think most people at that time realized you don't need to pay $15 a month for a fucking online turn based rpg
why is RO one of the only few games to get a large percentage of female players?
kawaii and hats.
Most people who played RO in its prime are boomers, I too wonder if I'd have the time to play a new RO to its fullest as I did back in the day
t. 27 yo boomer
ragnarok online has the best pvp mode that im not sure why modern mmorpgs don't have it
30 year old boomer reporting in for RO
>come back from wage slaving
>miss RO thread
you fuckers
what server are you nostalgia baiting faggots looking at
> everyone remember RO
> no one ever mention Atlantica
Why? Atlantica was almost perfect early on.
Never heard of it.
never forgetti
This. I used to play high rates so most of our time was just spent chilling and shit cause it took no time to level up. twas good though warding of bands of raiding Brazilians and Filipinos, did the BRs and Flips ever invade your server?
Never again
>buffs
>metal clanging
>players everywhere
youtu.be
Hot damn I hate bots, Ragnarok was so good.
It will never come back user, we're fucked.
It makes me wanna cry sometimes as well.
>Guard of Deaf
Oh you thought they were really female irl...bless you child.

* distant howling *
Someone posted OriginsRO, 5x/5x/5x pre-renewal. Kind of curious desu...
Anyone remember FaithRO?
I've met seven (7) girls IRL by meeting them in RO. That's way more than through any MMO I've played.
For the recored: 1 in ToS, 1 in TERA, 3 in AION, 2 in WoW
>posts RO:Mobile map
>ctrl + f “ROBF”
>zero matches
The paddy field is dry.
You get the picture.
A good amount were i knew a shit ton of them that ended up IRL dating and getting married to each other IRL. I remember too a friend of mine got catfished by a RO girl from the Philippines, he flew there and everything turns out she was paying her neighbour to video chat with him. when they met in person the Jig was up because the girl wouldnt go through with it. The ugly catfish genuinely loved my friend but he said she was way too uggo to even try and dismiss
Damn, that sounds like a lot of work. Did you get lucky and have them live near(ish) you or something?
Fucking christ that's a really sad story actually. Poor catfish girl :(
I just happened to be buddies with a real rich dude that often hosted guild meetups, nothing special.
>Been reading all day about how to setup my own server bc iro is so bloody broken with p2w.
>Start to undertand it but realize I am way too brainlet to make custom npcs or sprites or maps where people could buy all the items for zeny.
Are there any high rate private servers out there that arent based around how much you donate?
That's not true, Hydras spawned a lot of tentacle art
The class balance was one of my biggest issues with the game.
There were a lot of classes that people only took for one or two abilities.
A lot of people on private servers just multi-box those classes and it's a shame.
I'd play but honestly most of the fun of RO requires a big diverse community
I just know that I quit as soon as the added the F2P server and shortly after they added the cash shop. I knew that was the beginning of the end.
The time ToS died was in the 2nd beta when they decided to cut the monster spawns by like 66% because of their shitty servers and coding.
impossible to do that without a vit tank holding the enemy. many emeperium wars ended quickly because faggots believed they didn't needed a tank.
or their tank squad got fucked by the debuffers+melee dps squad with the Wickebine Tres Card
Yeah we were all good friends ingame too, i dont think i ever saw her ingame after that. Ro was the last game I played socially. I have played a shit ton of MMOs after it and i have never been able to make friends or be friendly with anyone. I solo play now anytime an mmo peeks my interest.
>be me in 2007
>met IRL girl thanks to RO
>was 16 and she was 22
>she was kind of chubby
>had sex with her at some point
>keep playing with her till she joined the military
>FF to 2015
>she contacted me and wanted to meet me again
>meet her in a starbuck
>she was not chubby anymore and was married
>bomb exploded next to her when she was serving in the army and now she has a horrible scar on her face and has Lieutenant Dan's left leg.
>keep takling and have a fun time remembering how i was his heal slut (played as a female HP and she was a male LK back inthe days)
>husband comes to pick her
>say goodbye
>haven't seen her since then
I honestly believe ToS could be saved if private servers for it existed. No one except the really dedicated wants to play that shit and grind only for it to not be worth anything in the end.
They have a shit ton of classes but the grind makes them so unaccessible
Press F to pay respects
Good of place as any to ask: Is Ragnarok Odyssey worth playing?
>when you jump into some random teleport just to see where it takes you
ADVENTURE
That shit was still going? I honestly lost track because there were like three different Ragnarok Online 2's.
was it any good though. I was always saying I was gonna get around to play it and never actually did.
They changed class system in last big patch. Classes now not restricted by your rank. so you can pick any class any time. But now you can pick only 3 classes, so your final build is base class+3 new classes.
Don't let us hanging user, I need this in order to go on with my life.
I was a knight because it was the closest to being a samurai. Should of went for the Assasssin, but I was a katana fag.
I was terrible at this game.
>2005
>this fucking guy is leveling on ant hell
>ant mobs are know for looting dropped items from other mobs
>guy kills an andre
>drops a vitata card
>confused as fuck
>10 years later he's still called "vitata boy"
Fuck man I miss being a kid.
short answer: No
It was shit. It played like every other chink F2P WoW clone, it just had a vaguely RO theme painted on it.
>just started playing
>level 30 or so
>hop into a random portal hoping for ADVENTURE
>it was the Geffen WoE map
>pretty confused, go around killing a few creamies and asking the dudes what the hell was going on
>drop slotted Silk Robe
>they buy it from me on the spot
>feel like a millionaire
>ADVENTURE achieved
always had that one mother fucker that had a warp to abyss lake that led under Detales ass
S>Warps to Juno/Lighthalzen/Aldebaran
Oh i think i'll check it out to see if its still shit.
You can't save warp inside Abyss Lake
it's okay if you like hack and slash. i myself never finished it because i got bored of it half way through it.
>be Aussie
>get urge to play Ragnarok Online
>sick of playing TalonRO like I have been (on and off) for the last 5 years
>try to find an Aussie RO server
>they're all dead
>try to find a med/high rate server with lv99 or 120 cap
>they're all Filipino servers
feels bad bros
figured. ToS was supposed to unnoficial ro1 successor and just faceplanted on launch
>mfw i belonged to Valk guild in Valk server
>had almost all of the god items on my character
>bought an Asprika
>Renewal came and it became shit
probably just my shit private server
Why are Filipinos and BRs the worst thing to happen to online gaming?
Ragnarok Online 2 is alright.
Not winning any awards, but it is free to play, and you can get to level 50-60 in a weekend.
pvp anywhere servers were the most fun
the massive fights that would start from some newbie getting ganked at Seals and calling their friends
then the ganker gets killed and calls his guild
then suddenly 50 people all killing each other on Seals beach.
ToS was good until they enabled neutrality in guild wars. We just waged wars on every guild that we can and enjoyed openworld pvp.
Holy shite i remember the sense of pride i had getting them all only for them to go to shit
Every time I play on a private server I feel like I'm the only non-BR and non-pinoy that actually still cares about RO. Where the fuck did everyone else go?
2004~2006, started playing when legit retail RO was still in beta and free to play (in Australia) then after 6 months they started charging money
I was like "$6 for 3 months? PFFF fuck that" and found some private servers and played with RL friends there.
Still play occasionally, get the urge every 6-12 months to just sink a week of my life into the game but it's just not the same without the large player base and RL friends playing.
You know the game's dead when the only leveling zone with other people is fucking Payon dungeon.
I was a cute girl mage as my first character even though I'm the hairiest guy I know
I even had an ingame boyfriend who didn't know I was a guy
I got his dickpic but chickened out and never talked to him again and blocked him ingame
Marcus, if you read this, I never forgot you and jerked off to that dickpic many times.
>see thread
>say fuckit and login to ro after years and years just to look at my shit.
>hear a msg ding
>"helo"
>"you gib me zeny"
Never change
Wow i remember this happening on my private server awhile back. Almost everyone was there. Started out as bunch of people Harrasing the Filipinos at seals beach, shit played out as you said then the BRs showed up to fuck shit up then the GMs came and spawned a bunch of bosses just to ruin everyones fun.
On slav private servers.
I'm 35 and employed full-time and can still fit in 6-8h of vidya a night after work.
git gud faggot
Just looking back at these old pics of me and the lads got me teary eyed. Especially knowing 2 of them died. feelsbadman.jpg
Cease this faggotry
>people used to just sit around Prontera/Geffen/Payon/Morroc or wherever their hangout was and just talk n shoot the shit for hours every day
>now due to RL adult bullshit it takes days/weeks of planning for the lads to make enough time to just hang out for an hour or two
Hell no, it's lucrative to play a female character. I got thirsty incels up my ass in FFXIV who'll buy me anything for literally nothing in return other than a little bit of attention and a cute message here and then :3 x''3
I don't know if monthly subscription MMOs like ragnarok online can exist anymore, at least not at $15 a month
what the hell am I getting for $15 a month? a chatroom?
All modern mmos are free to play and make money off of microtransactions, but that doesn't work for a game like ragnarok online because it'd become pay to win
they also can't just let you buy the game once and play on the servers forever because at some point their revenue would turn negative from the server costs
I think if they dropped the subscription to like $5 a month and then just sold a $50 yearly subscription so it felt like you bought a game for a year and then also sold expansions ala guild wars 2 style where you just have to buy the latest one to get all the currently released content so the play base doesn't split it could work
>Marcus, if you read this, I never forgot you and jerked off to that dickpic many times.
lmao
yet everyone keeps asking for these old school types of games and WOW keeps losing subscribers
new MMOs cant get away with charging money.
only old MMOs who are already well established can get away with charging a subscription, and even then a lot of them have adopted the Eve Online-style "can pay the sub with in-game currency" method or have some sort of F2P model.
Just a relic of a bygone era
Blizzard is the starbucks model, reduce game to the lowest common denominator, flood the market, and keep selling dumber and dumber shit until customers lose interest and want something better
how do you make player interaction intuitive? would giving people a list of places to go to for each level range be too much?
or maybe do something like DOTA 2 where there are a bunch of different player guides to follow or something
game wikis killed a lot of the mystery of MMOs, I agree.
pic related.
some games like Eve Online have managed to get away with still not having a wiki but now any game that gets released instantly gets .dat mined to shit and everything posted onto a wiki within a day of release.
Play RO2. Is easy.
Specifically like RO? Or an MMO in general?
I feel like it's been proven people are willing to pay a subscription to avoid P2W and freemium bullshit.
There's a reason I stopped playing F2P MMO years ago and stopped playing RO when it went F2P.
>I’m not gay! It’s just a scam!
>Marcus, if you read this, I never forgot you and jerked off to that dickpic many times.
>to avoid P2W and freemium bullshit.
the hardest part of finding a decent RO private server to be honest.
Easy to find one with the rates you want.
Not too hard to find one with a decent player base.
But trying to find one that isn't straight up "Buy COINS to get LEET GEARS!" is the hardest part.
True for most online games now really, not even MMOs
I never said I'm not gay you dumb faggot
old RO didn't have freedom for shit. Every class had a set of optimal maps to grind every 10 levels so all you did was keep killing mobs to get 0,05% of a level up per mob
Which is why I said “Cease this faggotry”
Learn how to read nigger.
I prefer open world pvp games, even if it sucks getting ganked the whole thrill of having players act as drama in the game gives it a whole nother level
I think they should institute a eve online system where the noob zones are safe or maybe safe and it takes longer for guards to come out and save players the further out they adventure
>originsro.org
>811 players online
>687 of them are afk vending
RO's worst aspect by far. Fucking hardly anyone actually PLAYS the game
>when you played this game so long ago that you still remember the intro
youtu.be
>>Players flock to maps with the most exp
Shocker
most new MMos hand hold too much there is no mystery because the game is telling you what to do even when you are halfway in your leveling.crafting and shit holds no weight anymore.
eh it's not like you were railroaded.
there were a handful of alternate camps for each level range, just some were more popular than others and some were well kept secrets, especially camps that gave less exp but had good drops/farm/cards. killing two birds with one stone
I don't want Ragnarok back, I just want an MMO to hook me in again in the same way, with that level of community.
No they don't. Everyone says "HURR I WANT THAT" but then when it actually happens no one plays. People don't want shitty old mmos, they want to re-live memories that are impossible to bring back.
It's pure rose-tinted nostalgia.
of course people should go for optimal exp, I'm just saying there wasn't real freedom at all
>Champion vs Champion
anime tier flash steps and one hit kills
>Lord Knight vs Lord Knight
Bystanders will die before the LKs
>High Wizard/Professor/Creator vs Self
Fastest caster wins
>Mastersmith vs Mastersmith
Ever wanted to see 1mil z be spent on nothing?
>Assassin Cross vs Assassin Cross
First to uncloak loses
>Paladin vs Paladin
Matyr's Reckoning wrecks other builds
>Sniper vs Sniper
Ends in a draw as both die at the same time from DS spam
unfortunately MMOs are these days.
no-one wants to play with other people.
everyone wants to do everything solo while watching netflix on another screen.
a lot of the target audience for MMOs dont have the time to sink into grinding for shit anymore so they want shit to be easier, and the younger generations (current teenagers and people in their early 20s) never experienced old MMOs so they want instant gratification or else they think it's "too grindy/hard/boring".
I miss Asanagi RO content.
I have so many good memories of killing milioins of these fuckers. In retrospect I realize it was an awful mindless grind but damn I had a blast. Also the music on that map was lit
strayaposting hoping some cunt hosts a server
fuck the filos
2005 to whatever year the renewal was released
*water balls your path*
There was i used to go off the beaten path to level and ended up doing it faster because everyone would for example be at seals beacking with 6 niggas fighting over 1 seal, while i was in the jungle north of that with my brother killing mobs and getting shit done faster than everyone that swarmed those maps
2004 to 2009
Copying WB10 and lv10 blast traps was such a fun, and different way to play Stalker
this guy knows whats up.
i never understood the retards that went to anthell and would grind that shit for hours to get to lvl 20 or 30, instead of just doing the two maps south of Payon instead, or something
I always wanted to camp around in whichever GD it was that had heaps of water with one of those builds but never got around to it...
wrecking the shit out of people with my champion buddy as scholar/professor is the best memory i have from RO
it was pretty expensive to keep up with the yellow gems, webs and blue pots but it was worth it
What are some the best/highest populated unofficial servers?
I didn't play much beyond heritage, people say renewal as awful, is that true? All I know is the class sprites looked cool
Aldebaran GD had a lot of water in the center, good leveling until you get swarmed. I leveled my Knight there, and I still find female knights irresistible.
While you can say its broken, its one of the best mmos ever made, the stat system and dmg math is simple and so robust. The skill system was interesting, and when rogues and stalker could steal class specific skill it really made things interesting. The fact that you could make an auto bolter a high agi caster who cast on chance on attack in insane. RO is truly a sandbox of skills and stats. Ragnarok pvp was balanced around guild vs guild, not 1v1, and here is the interesting thing because the game was so open this meant that players changed the meta and balanced the game.
Here is another thing RO did that no mmo has managed to do. Keep low-level content relevant. Having mvps spawn on low level maps that drop interesting cards and having some good cards on low-level enemies kept high-level players coming to low maps to farm, this kept the interaction with high-level players interesting.
Ro may seem broken, but when you learn the game and the mechanics and interesting game design you will see that RO was a masterpiece.
Its a simple game by today's standards, but it has one of the best castle siege mechanics ever concieved in a mmo.
dankro on vg?
mid-week at a weird timezone right now (EUs are asleep, Filipinos are at work etc), most of the busiest private servers seem to be sitting at around 800-900 players.
>Having mvps spawn on low level maps that drop interesting cards and having some good cards on low-level enemies kept high-level players coming to low maps to farm
Yeah this was a big thing.
Being a noob and finding a Creamy Card, Thara Frog Card, Hydra Card or something and finding out it was worth a few million. Massive rush of excitement.
I remember when I was brand new to the game I thought LUK increased drop rates so I had a lv30 Merchant with nothing but luck points. I used to spend all day killing black mushrooms because the spores sold for 30z each and the occasional blue gem or whatever sold for 500.
>play assassin
>geared as fuck
>friends marrying in-game, ask me to escort them because they have an idea
>go into PvP while in the 1 hour just-married state where you're slow as fuck and can't attack or use skills
>people jump on them full tunnel-vision
>I come out of hiding and obliterate them
>works on dozens of people
Ah the good old days
I always felt it was dumb af how most unique weapons were worse than trash weapons with 4 cards
>asuring without casting pneuma first with ruwach on
fucking private server faggots.
user out first character all had luk our first builds were so stupid.
first hentai i jerk off to was RO nightmare rape
With the blacksmith getting pounded, clawing at the ground. I know that pic.
how old was marcus?
Having optimal maps isn't the same as "you literally can't enter this zone because the story says so.
You could jump to high level maps at like level 15 if you could grape juice spam and kite properly.
you can time the hide to only get out of it due to the ruwach when the asura was already cast
>That Champion that uses Asura Strike from Cloak
>tfw you had enough gear to make a new character and go straight to Hill Winds at like level 20
>killing them faster than niggas at lvl 80
Nothing like going to mi gaos as a fresh mage...
ITT: private server faggots
>Matyr's Reckoning wrecks other builds
Nope. If built right Shield Chain was the top tier PvP build and it wasn't even close. The reason 99% of Paladins went Sacrifice is because it was EASY as fuck to both play and build.
learning the firewall walk was a fun experience then going to alarms and clocks.
it's not fair bros, i missed out. i wanted to play this when i was like 8 but my parents wouldn't pay for a subscription fee. i never got to play it until private servers much after its prime.
you are all faggot zoomers pretending to like this game to fit in with the og crew
I played officials and I played privates, I am going to be real, private servers were better in literally every aspect when ro was at its prime. The simple rule of keeping vends out of the street kept moving around towns so much easier.
>tfw you never played RO when it was in its prime and now you'll never know what you missed out on
Rapid Smiting is a joke especially against another Paladin, just throw up your Defender's Aura and the damage is basically a tickle, or put on your own status weapon and shield boom them so you can catch them. Then they can't do shit.
Going to glast hiem prison as an aco and heal bombing all the way to a high level priest brings back memories. Still hear the zombies dragging their chains across the floor.
remember me?
Fuck this thread makes me realize how old I am. 25 years old and I want to kill myself.
Are you breaking bragging about paying gravity for an inferior experience? Private servers at low rate (5/5/5) was the perfect balance.
Nigga hush. I'll be 30 in a few months. It's not even that bad.
you missed out your first ro love, you missed out making friends for life, you missed out drama regarding what other guilds said and speculation on what gear another player had. You missed on out fucking up you first character you spent months on then learning the game then remaking and feeling so much more powerful. You missed out on one of the best mmo experiences you could have in the early 2000s.
95% of RO's player base were on private server.
iRO was only popular from 2003 to 2004. After that Private servers completely took over.
>Pretty much every MMO after it was better.
nah, you just have shit taste
>Lord Knight vs Lord Knight
>Bystanders will die before the LKs
Someone take me back, pls
I remember the anime! Wasn't that something!
SNOT FARE
she should have paid the price and took that package to izlude.
I want to protect her smile and let her eat good foods ;___;
Spear LKs have so much defense and health, but near zero offense even with Spiral Pierce. Bowling Bash builds could almost kill someone. You must watch two LKs Frenzy out and fight with their lightsabers.
Still female Knights, and Lord Knights so cute.
I played official because my country had a great server and I didn't have to get cucked by iRO's bullshit
i'm aroused
>asanagi was right
/vg/ is a shithole fuck off racoon or whatever the fuck you were called
Spear LK was one of my favorite classes. Going Hos and brandish spearing them then doing it again but with BB to level as trans.
isn't he always
All of this
>Grinding forever on a character not making progress
>Party up with some people
>Get invited to the guild
>Get convinced to pick a new class and follow their advice
>Eventually hit max level trans (job was a a summer worth of grinding)
>Win WoE in aldabaran Castle (still have the picture we all took there)
>These people become my friends from all over the world
>We all eventually stop playing as often when we go off to college
>Fast forward to today
>Still in contact
>Some got married to people they met in the guild
>One is pregnant and married
>Another from Venezuela recently had to move to Argentina
RO will always have a special place in my heart. No other game can come close until we get an SAO level of immersion with all of the freedom and community that RO had.
Is the RO M Love good?
no
My first Knight was a SVD Knight build, didn't get it around to transing due to focusing equips on Creator, and Sniper. Second was just a straight STR BB build that I transed in a week.
The graphics are great and every time I look at it it hurts to see what could be possible if someone invested in an RO remake.
No.
Visually it got it right. It's still pay to win auto run bullshit.
The guild leader from my euphro guild back in 2008 is now my roommate and one of my best friends. The 20 or so core members have kept in contact since.
So Yea Forums you can just take one to Jawaii with you, Knight girl, or Crusader girl?
Knight girl. She's a slut unlike crusader that is a woman of God.
You will retract those words
I was so disappointed when they changed rune knights into something barely different from lord knights. I can't tell the difference without looking at both side by side
Looks good and has some neat things (like being able to hand-hold other players), but it has all the bullshit you can expect from phone games
>playing renewal non-ironically
what was wrong with it?
>2 char slots
Fuuuuuuuuuck
Play Ragnarok Eternal Love™
Just buy more goyim
Who else played RebirthRO?
I did. I vaguely recall it was the best server for a while but it seemed like any other server.
This I was a GM of a private server awhile back and i remember this annoying kid used to play and he would pay off the server owner and get awesome gear and all other shit. Everytime I thought i had something to ban him on the server owner would overturn it until one day we caught him in a huge botting sting with some Brazileans i remember the day i got to permanently ban him. It felt like when Light finally found out L's name. Shit felt good man. tfw still have the pics in my photobucket
Has the most active players, back in the days. Tens of thousands of active players.
Check the server now. Makes me cry to only see 500 players
That doesn't make sense cause you were the good guy but light was the villain
>play on a private server where Doppleganger cards give +22% aspd and other mvp cards give larger health bonuses and such
>sinx duels are suddenly the most mind-gamey shit in existence
4 different armor sets, ice pick, DDPTg MGs everywhere, had to keep my keyboard sideways on my lap to hit all my hotkeys.
There will never be a better time of my life. Never. No matter what I do, I will never have as much fun as I did on AnimaRO and TalonRO.
Did you play back during the AnimaRO and TalonRO split? What guild?
2017-2018
Played for my first time on Leika, was enjoyable.
just describing the feeling my brudda. I was trying to bring down this faggot for months. Looking back it was a little cringe but yeah felt good.
literally just play originsro if you miss it so much
>b-but the game sucks :(
nah, you suck. get good knight shitters
>expecting wow classic population for a game as obscure as RO
retard
this type of gameplay is what made me gravitate to League of Legends after i left RO. Nothing in the world beats high rate PVP. I used to wreck people with my whitesmith. Destroying their equipment while destroying their souls. name a more broken class than these fags
AnimaRO hit 5k+ players during its heyday.
I used to love league until Riot killed the chatrooms. No more Yea Forumsmades made me lose all interest.
It's dead. Development was officially halted last year.
Yeah utility was a very real thing before modern RO.
I knew 1 or 2 very tryhard players that would self-endow+buff back in the day, but now it's almost like standard.
Those classes weren't even useless, they just can't compete with fullscreen aoe. The niche buffs definitely made up for it in a group setting.
Worst classes were like sage, alchemist, bard/dancer, and even the melee single target classes weren't that great.
Basic game theory though, ranged classes have an innate advantage and priests were so overpowered that you didn't really need a true tank class.
>during its heyday
>2007
yeah no shit, that was because RO had a sub fee and most kids couldn't afford it. i'm talking about 2019 numbers
TalonRO or whatever the fuck was the best server. Super high rates, thousands of players online at one time, PVP in all maps.
Creator
WS was really good (IF you were rich), but only at 1x1 and it was UTTERLY shut down by Professor
t. WS main
Was I the only one who actually played on official servers before they went to shit?
Seems like most people's memories are from the early private server days.
Or were the official servers always shit and I just didn't realized it because I never participated in all of the botting?
>All sinx but the stoutest VIT builds kill themselves on my Paladin shield reflect with Tao Gunka armor
Fuck I still have my talonro account. It's not the same. Logged in a month ago. Guild still exists but everyone is gone.
This. Demo wrecking everyone's shit was beautiful chemical warfare.
It felt like everyone multi-boxed Sage and Bard. Those were the only two jobs I really liked but most parties already had the slot filled.
Some people seemed to appreciate having someone actually play the class, but very rarely were they going to make room for me if they already had someone multi-boxing.
5 is considered high?
and then you run into a creator
>Never any room for Dancer/Gypsy
For being an important WoE class, they were pretty useless in PvE parties
TalonRO is blatantly P2W, you can literally buy cards and items. The fact that it's still tied for the best private server is a fucking joke.
>euphro
jesus that name takes me back
Light did nothing wrong.
The times before second classes were introduced were maximum comfy the likes of which no games have managed to replicate.
I saw people bring them for the SP song or EXP song, but they'd almost always be someone's alt just AFK and dancing in place.
>>being anything other than a rich WS.
I remember creators had a long ass cool down on that acid demo. If you prepared properly a WS could easily chomp their faces
yeah I did, was in a guild with friends there
Never knew there was a split
No guild, the last 5 or 6 years it's just been me and a mate casually playing there once in a while (like a night a month or so).
We just drink beer, level something or farm, try out meme builds etc.
Unless they're running in Magic Strings I can probably get to them before they down me, 42k health with Thara and Devilring reduce a lot of AD damage
Creator really was the most overpowered shit ever but damn it felt good to weed out the braindead retards that only knew how to spam acid demo and nothing else by using 0 VIT builds
>playing Gunslinger, the 2nd worst fucking class
>Creator thinks you're easy picking
>tries to bomb your ass
>miss miss miss miss miss miss miss miss miss miss miss miss
>KEEPS SPAMMING IT, wasting hundreds of thousands of zeny
>tiny Creator brain can't comprehend what is happening
>probably doesn't even have other skills bound to his keys
>can't even remember he has an homunculus
>slowly kill him while spamming /meh
>niggas keeps spamming the skill the entire time
TalonRO used to be consistently 2k players even only a year or two ago.
I remember some servers like VanRO used to have 4k players or more back in 2006.
Yeah bro, I got married got news of my ro wife, then shared them with friends when she cheated on me. not one of my proudest moments.
I used to play XileRO pvp was fun as heck and made me stay longer than i needed to. I tried and stop Talon on multiple occasions it was a P2W. BlackoutRo was also good.
it's because you get the p2w coins by voting for the server.
if you vote daily for a month you get enough to buy the Kaho Horns.
I stopped playing when they nerfed the shit out of Bard/Clown.
I don't remember if it was Talon, might have been another server. Like I said it had PVP everywhere and rates in the thousands.
>tfw created a guild and meet some really nice people during my ro years
>tfw pushed them all away because of autism and edgyness
Of all of them, Pammy is probably lurking here. I'm sorry Pam... I'm sorry guys...
yeah so many shitty Creators and Alchemists.
My favourite builds were using plants and "Auto-cast on attack" gear to shower people with Firebolt, Jupitel Thunder, Icebolt, Frost Diver etc.
Fair enough, but that's still almost as bad in my mind.
They're not lurking here user. They went on to lead normal lives while you're stuck here in the past with the rest of us.
After maining HW, and Sniper in WoE I found my calling maining Gypsy. So easy but fun, spam Dazzler, SP song the casters, Tarot spam anyone that doesn't stun, and Slow Grace if anyone makes it to the Emperium.
I remember only me and like 2 other clowns on the server actually played the job and took it seriously.
When it first came out everyone thought it was a meme job that didn't do anything.
Frost Joke-ing an entire PVP arena and one-shotting them all one by one with Vulcan Arrow was hilarious, until the Elemental armor card meta started.
>that dancer friend that would always dance when you were hanging out for no reason other than knowing it turned you on
Bless you, old friends.
Must have been nice to play on a server where nobody had basic freeze resistance.
Reminder that Rogues are GOAT.
>when your class could instacast Storm Gust faster than the Wizards
>when your class could outmeme the Grand Cross Crusaders
>when everybody pissed themselves when you stripped them of shit
>AnimaRO
It's funny how even back in like 2005 AnimaRO was rife with controversies. I remember one of the ~girl~ GMs had made off with some donation money or something.
I remember playing the western beta it always felt like a MMO final fantasy tactics to me as a kid (due to it being isometric animated sprites) I was a shitter thief in the desert.
Didn't really stick with it long but I was the coolest kid at school for being in the beta for some reason.
7 he thought I was a 19 yo girl
it wasnt something people thought of until like 2005.
Then water/freeze immune armors became popular.
Then people started playing with the body armor cards that inflicted status effects on taking damage, especially the Curse or Confuse ones were really popular.
Then people started countering that with Undead/Bathory armors and Vit builds.
Before all that shit 9 times out of 10 people would put PecoPeco cards or Pupa cards in their body armor.
This was in the days where the hands-down best headgear for nearly all jobs was the Apple of Archer.
Simple times.
> euRO
> admins hold event in Izlude
> if you answer right on their question they summon MvP of your choice
> come to event as Wanderer
> some guy summon Belz
> cant do anything anyway so i just spam tarot card at belz
> suddenly he dissapears
> no one understood what happened (except me)
> they though it was a bug or belz just didnt drop anything
> 10 minutes later someone found belz on the other side of the Izlude where i teleported him with The Lovers
What is the best homunculus and why is it Lif?
br and flips have good taste in mmo
>when everybody pissed themselves when you stripped them of shit
i still fucking get upset thinking about it. i loved doing it but it was annoying as fuck when it happened to me
Man, the meta on your server was real fucked up
Eleonor>Sera>Lif
Also why i cant find any arts with Eleonor and Sera? Dont tell me no one draw that.
never play vidya with Yea Forums
I loved watching my RL friend troll an entire WoE guild in the Emperium room because they couldn't reveal his Stalker hide.
>never play vidya with Yea Forums
There's one exception to that rule.
This i hated getting mutated Lif or any of the other mutated rejects jesus christ. If i didnt get a Lif i'd settle with an Amistr but raising homuns was annoying and slow as fuck
Another good thing about rogue is that kids hated it because it wasn't an DPS class
so rogues/stalkers were pretty rare on almost every server.
Snatching people, stripping them and then raping them with backstabs while their friends couldn't do jack shit to help them made my dick diamonds
Literally who?
>numunculus
Oh.
The amount of stupid shit RO let you get away with was so fucking good.
The card system was absolute genius as well despite the silly grinding involved. It encouraged noobs to interact with tthe larger playerbase if they ever got a card drop and vice versa.
it wasn't an edgy DPS class*
i liked how flexible they were, like Bow Stalkers and Mage builds.
They could also prevent monster agro if two of them sat next to each other
Yeah the card system was amazing.
You know you were doing well on a server when you could make a lvl 1 Novice and go straight to Payon Dungeon. Lv 20's and 30's next to you confused as fuck.
Backstab dancing was pretty fun.
>RoR
>TERA beta
>Terraria
"Never" is a strong word. It's just that playing with Yea Forums is either a great time or absolutely fucking awful. There's no middle ground whatsoever, so you just gotta know when to jump ship.
I only played with Yea Forums in their old private servers where we would style on the flip guilds. Didn't Yea Forums have one back then as well? Back in the early 10s.
You're probably right, my brother. And you know what's funny? It was RO that introduced me to this shithole.
>circa 2005
>chatting with people from my guild
>saying that I'm a loner at school, no gf
>they ask if I know what Yea Forums is, I say no
>"you still have hope then, haha"
>go to this Yea Forums place, leave because dicks and because I didn't knew how to speak english at the time
>ffw to 2012
>trying to fit in with the normans
>some girl mentions a shooter from a "chan"
>"you probably heard of that place, user"
>remember of the fabled Yea Forums
>been here ever since
Wizardhood is afoot, and these silly little things from the past only serve as a reminder of what I should've been, of what I became.
What is it about the Prontera music that makes it so good? It's not even nostalgia. My one roommate who only ever played WoW or Runescape but never heard of RO felt sentimental as fuck when he heard it.
>*fingers (You)*
youtube.com
fellow pedros will remember
RO's soundtrack in general was fucking awesome.
One of the few games I actually keep the in-game music on.
Are you kidding? Ive been stuck here for fucking 10 years
The job quests in Ragnarok were some of the most hilarious shit I ever experienced. They were actually FUN quests to do.
>gather these materials
>what the fuck i don't know where they drop from
>well tough shit kid good luck
>the invisible maze for assassins
>the hide and seek rogue quest and password shit
>the mage battle gauntlet
>everything about the merchant
>all the fucking trivia quizes
Amazing. Absolutely amazing.
Why don't we get quests as this fun anymore?
Good music is good
>12 years old video
what happened to time
I just found a video I made back when Thanatos' Tower had just come out and my guild and I all teamed up to climb it for the first time.
Those feels man.
And I like how Super Novice's quest was like "Well you're lv45 now, awesome, get me 10 jellopy and you get the job"
All the quests were amazing.
Some were easy. Some were fucking bullshit.
yeah i dunno what ever happened to that.
NO QUEST MARKERS
NO OBJECTIVE LIST
TALK WITH OTHER PEOPLE
FINAL DESTINATION
soundTeMP is just that good.
The game had like 10 quests for years, user. It's no wonder they were fairly involved.
>decide to be a Merchant my first job
>have to take a box from Izlude to Prontera
>takes me all afternoon and I get lost/die like 20 times
> warlock quest
> warlock quest as baby wizard
Tough shit.
I mean who needs more quests when WoE is a complete clusterfuck of subterfuge and stupidity?
>that one guy who popped 500 DBs outside the south gate
Shitting on Renewal aside, at least it kept the cool class change quests. Fuck the Mechanic quest though
>hey kid
>go into this lv 120 area with your weak ass lvl 99 body
>talk with machinery all over this map crawling with ranged mobs that two-shot you
>good luck bye
