The problem is that everything has been done, so nothing is new anymore. Kind of how like all music is basically just copying The Beatles, it only took 30-40 years for the industry to stagnate, and home video games are old as fuck now.

That's why I have a bit of hope for virtual reality. I kind of think of it as the first gen of gaming right now and maybe once it gets to third gen or so it'll really start to improve. But that new technology will allow for new things to be made instead of endless ripoffs and remakes.

I think it mostly means when it's obvious the devs put a lot of care and attention into the game and were passionate about making it. A game is "soulless" when good parts of it start being cut for remakes, or when they churn out sequels for money, or when it's obvious that the game is just being made for profit and not passion.

controls are pretty fucked, although you can make them like the PS1 (and mod out the lens dirt, even lower the bloom)
I do really enjoy seeing the world without screen transitions though, it makes it a lot more real even if it does look worse technically

Lorne and the devs on discord said that the bloom and camera effects are actually a part of his plan though even for Soulstorm, although he admitted it was a bit excessive

To be fair, Kirby's Adventure is the most graphic heavy and detailed game on the NES. Better than most SNES games. But that doesn't excuse them from watering it down. It also didn't need a remake at all.

Well, yes. That's the problem. The originals had pretty solid aesthetic design, and the remakes don't recreate it. Design is actually an important thing for video game graphics, and if you neglect it, the end result will look bland as fuck even if the graphics are technically competent.
Although Mario All Stars is honestly fine. It has a different style from the original, but it doesn't look bad.
