Why is there still no game based on the Iliad?
Why is there still no game based on the Iliad?
Because the only books that gamedevs read are Tom Clancy novels and Star Wars tie-ins
>no Iliad Smash Bros
I would main Nestor.
I would be a chad Achilles main
Not Illiad related, but I wanted to make a Castlevania-esque platformer called The Seven Wonders where each stage is one of the seven wonders of the Ancient world and you battle related mythical beasts. Your character would be a Hoplite and completing each stage would give you a magical item. You could pick the order of stages ala Mega Man.
Great Pyramid of Giza (Boss: Sphinx)
Hanging Gardens of Babylon (Boss: Bull of Heaven)
Temple of Artemis at Ephesus (Boss: Gorgon)
Statue of Zeus at Olympia (Boss: Typhon)
Mausoleum at Halicarnassus (Boss: Cerebus)
Colossus of Rhodes (Boss: Hydra)
Lighthouse of Alexandria (Boss: Avatar of Thoth)
They wouldn't be able to do it justice.
Fuck that. Give a classoc literature Smash Bros. Count Dracula and Alice Liddell here
because half the game would be sailing on a boat with your mates and the other half would be chilling outside the city walls having a beach party with your mates
the illiad is really boring if you actually read it
HEECTOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOR
the illiad is not the odyssey dumb zoomer
There are boring parts, like the chapter painstakingly listing every ship crew and which island they come from for like 20 pages, but some parts are like an action movie complete with descriptions of swordfights and even stealth archery
Stop demeaning the Divine.
so it's just like Tolkien
do it then faggot
GET THE FUCK OUTTA MY SUNLIGHT
More or less, but without all the singing.
Because nobody has the patience to learn all of the Greek mythology and history required to even start to read and understand the Illiad.
>stealth archery
>like Tolkien
you misspelled Skyrim
But there actually is stealth archery in LotR
Give me development money on scamstarter or plebeian
The Illiad's theme's are incompatible with a video game no one would like it. burgers would hate that you hardly kill anyone, japs would hate the lack of cute girls, europoors would hate the lack or any diverity in any of the characters with everyone being an olive skinned man, and chinese would hate it because you wouldn't be able to shove micro-transactions into it. Its about Achilles rage and his journey to forgive his spends half of it being emo and the other have being pissed about his butt-buddy being dead not many people can relate to it.
What would the final stage/boss be?
>not appealing to the fujo market
ok, nerd
Wrong book dumbass
unironically the only way it could be done with any justice
We only have the ending chunks
Retarded g*rman barbarians destroyed Greek and Roman civilization so we don't have the complete story of the Iliad
Mt Olympus, Heracles
Secret endboss is Jupiter
That's the question I've been dealing with. I would like to introduce a "secret" eighth wonder of the ancient world. Or maybe just have the hero scale Mount Olympus and/or venture into the underworld.
Here are some of my ideas for basic gameplay elements
Controls Jump Executable
A: Attack Yes
B: Jump --
C: Cross Menu Yes
R: Parry Yes
L: Offhand Yes
Up: --
Down: Crouch
Right: Move
Left: Move
A + Up/Down: Overhead Atk, Crouch Atk
R + Left/Right: Dash, Backdash
(hold) C + Up/Down/Left/Right: Quick Swap slots
(jump) Up/Down + A: Overhead Atk, Plunge Atk
(double tap and hold) Left/Right: Run
Cross Menu
Hold C to bring up 4 options accessed via Up, Down, Left, Right. Press direction and release C to choose a specific slot. Each slot will contain a Wield Item.
The Iliad takes place on a small beach and the land in front of a city over maybe a week of time. In a huge chunk of it the “main character” is sulking in a docked boat. I’m not sure how you turn this into a vidya. Most of the stuff people associate with the Iliad is not actually in the Iliad.
wut, I thought the only stuff we were missing was other parts of the Trojan war story that weren't even written by Homer
Parry System
Tap R button to initiate a Parry
--> Negate incoming attack
--> Counter Attack (A or A + Up/Down)
--> Dash (Left/Right)
--> Dash Counter Attack (A or A + Up/Down)
Shield System
Use Shield to Guard or Parry.
(tap) L: Parry
--> Bash (R)
--> Dash (Right or Left)
--> Dash Bash (R)
(hold) L: Guard
--> Bash (R)
--> Dash (Right or Left)
--> Dash Bash (R)
(jump)(tap) L: Parry
--> Bash (R)
--> Dash (Right or Left)
--> Dash Bash (R)
(jump)(hold) L: Guard
--> Bash (R)
--> Dash (Right or Left)
--> Dash Bash (R)
You would also be able to choose/equip different weapons and shields.
Age of Mythology
We have the Iliad user. What we don’t have is the full Epic Cycle. But even in antiquity those other works were thought to be of lesser quality.
just start making the game you stupid faggot. visit /agdg/ for help
>without all the singing
>the whole thing is written in dactylic hexameter
I mean, it's not the same as actually singing, but the whole thing is, in fact, a poem.
The mechanics seem pretty solid, honestly it seems like you've got the gameplay worked out. Get into coding and stuff, visit /agdg/ if you're not sure where to start.
You'll have all sorts of mythological weapons and stuff, right?
>dagger
>more range than axe
>more range than spear
The obvious choice for a secret eight wonder would be Atlantis.
A throwing dagger?
Range is throwing, dolt. Reach is, you know, REACH.
That's actually a 10/10 idea.
I think range is for throwing and reach is for regular attacks. Still silly for it to outrange spears, but it's a game so who cares.
This
I'm not the guy, but the idea I'm getting is essentially Castlevania style ranged attacks for each. Axe gets the overhead toss, knife goes straight ahead, and spear gets an arcing javelin throw.
what if the secret eighth wonder is the human soul
Nice. It kinda feels more like ghosts and goblins than castlevania, the way you describe it. Too bad we will never see anything like it or any decent mythology based game anytime soon.
Yeah, that's actually what I was going for. Not original, but it's great for 2D gameplay.
What talents do you have ? Can you code well or draw well ?
Will the main character do the Belmont Strut?
I'm a graphic designer by trade, but that doesn't make me a pixel artist even though I can do rudimentary stuff. I've got a concise concept for gameplay mechanics, but that's about it. I'm no coder, either. I never moved ahead with this project because I would need a coder and an animator. To teach myself how to do these things would take more time than I can monetarily afford to waste.
Sounds cool, but it's sort of bullshit that it's limited to the Old World by virtue of the concept.
Maybe that's the base game and there's an expansion or postgame content with like Macchu Picchu, Chichen Itza, Huaca De La Luna, Tenochtitlan, Cahokia, and Chaco valley? That would fill yout "8th wonder" thing
