Why didn't they get in

Isaac, Crystal, Samurai Goroh, and Geno haven't had games in over a decade and weren't even that big when their games came out.
Rex and Springman probably could have made it in if their games had come out a little while earlier, and could definitely be contenders for the next Smash.
Bomberman would make an excellent 3rd party character and I hope he gets in next time.
Ashley is already 100% represented by the two variations of her theme song, the only real thing her character has, and thus doesn't need to be in Smash.

Because they're all shit choices for new characters. Even though I wanted Bomberman, I realized that he'd end up gimmickier than even Olimar or Rosalina, and thus not be that fun to play as or against. I'm still glad he's an assist trophy.

I realized why there wasn't much XCX representation in Smash. Sony owns the right to XCX's soundtrack because of Sawano. XCX music keeps getting DMCA'd off of Youtube by Sony Music Group.

Going by sales, Xenoblade, Mario Spinoffs, and ARMS all sold more than Fire Emblem, or a large chunk of it. Hell, Super Mario Odyssey has sold more than the entire Fire Emblem franchise, dating back 30 years, in a measly 2 years. That's 1 game vs 17.

Speaking as someone who's not a smash fan, why do smash fans complain that characters "didn't get in" when they got in? Most of the characters in OP's pic are in smash. Smash is just crossover bait anyway; all that matters is that the characters show up, but you're going to complain that they didn't show up in the hyper-specific way you expected? It just seems like the "fans" of smash are just whiny, ungrateful, petulant, and will never be happy with the game they claim to enjoy. Smash comes off as more of a talking point than a game, where people pretend to get hype for it knowing full well that they'll be bitching and moaning about it in no time.

I love seeing assist trophies. Honestly, I wish that we could have more. I'd love to see Geno, Mallow, Paper Mario, Lip, or even Banjo. Getting to see them run around on stage is the next best thing to having them be playable.

The only downside assist trophies have is their spawn rate. Even with items on low there are too many.
