Just started SC. It’s been 4 years since I beat FC and I forget a ton of shit but man I forgot how charming these games are.
Unfortunately I picked hard difficulty and it’s kind of ruining it for me. I can do the random fights but I’ll get to a boss and just get slaughtered. Sometimes I’ll have to protect an npc and when the fight starts, before I can move, they aoe spam and he dies. So I have that setting that makes fights easier on retry and I usually have to die twice for it to be doable.

Beginning of sc is balls to the walls hard, even on normal. Should get easier the further you're in

Prologue is the hard mode casual filter, after that it evens out and ramps back up later on

I dropped hard because that prologue was bullshit. I had unfortunately used the proxy puppets before that final prologue boss. I just restarted on normal since I didn't want to deal with that crap again. But the rest of the game felt too damn easy.

You don't even need proxy puppets nor attack food to beat it. all you need is either La tear+decent luck or spread around+decent luck of him running around wasting turns. Obviously if you have either of the above it helps and that they're practically mandatory on nightmare. Decent luck in my case meant 1-2 hours of trying.
That being said the game is a snoozefest on normal if you take even 5 minutes of your life to check your orbment setup every chapter and have over 90 IQ

I believe there is some retard defence method both in TitSFC and SC, where if you wipe too many times during the same bossfight, it would scale it down a bit. Oftentimes, if I was stuck the game would just make AI shit its' pants and give me those rng bonuses out of the ass.

I actually thought I had figured him out once and you could aggro him to make him switch targets or something. But in all likelihood it was just luck and nothing more.

if i knew it was gonna be such a pain i would've saved the puppets, but i went through the first game without using them at all, so i figured itd be fine if i just equipped them since youve barely anything when you start. But the mobs ended up hitting a lot harder then i had anticipated. Still, because i didnt use em at all, i figured it wouldnt matter once i got past the prologue. So much for that

yeah i had gotten close to beating him without the puppets a couple of times, but i mustve been on him for 5 hours and said fuck it.

I hope you at least went in the 3rd on hard, it's the first game to be actually balanced on higher difficulties without insane early game spikes
It Basically drops enemy stats every time you gameover, eventually making it easy mode tier after couple of tries.
