I know that the ps4pro already hits 30 but with frame pacing issues, but those issues would be ironed out by a stronger cpu and a fast ssd since the frame pacing issues comes from the continuous stream in of highly detailed geometry.

SSDs are becoming cheaper and cheaper by the minute and sony will get them for way cheaper than end users since they buy in bulk, also they'll use a combination of nvme + hdd with a solution like storeMI which works wonderfully on PC.

For a PS5, yeah. Microsoft has already developed their own ray tracing API called DXR and that's what all games with ray tracing on PC use. Microsoft have all the tools they need for this but as for Sony they're probably going to have to write their own API seeing as they can't use DirectX.

You don't know shit about it. Raytracing is very generic, for exemple raytracing in BF5 has almost nothing to do with raytracing used in CGI. A lot of work can be done in optimization/downgrade.

Remember that Microsoft achieves their backwards compatibility through emulation. They wrote an Xbox emulator for the Xbox 360. Then they wrote an Xbox 360 emulator for the Xbox One. Also remember that Microsoft is a software company, perhaps the most well-resourced company for software development in the entire world. And also remember that the Xbox One can only run a tiny handful of original (OG) Xbox games, indicating that this third emulator was a stretch too far even for them.

The point being that if Sony wanted the PS5 to support PS games all the way back to PS1, then they'd have four emulators to write. I think they would struggle to make an emulator just for PS4 games. I guess for PS1 and PS2 they could just use existing open-source emulators, which they have shown they are willing to do, since the PlayStation Classic uses an open source PS1 emulator that Sony did not make. That's a possibility I guess.

But yeah. I think it would be a big surprise if Sony did manage a PS4 emulator for the PS5, although if they are similar architectures then it's possible. But backwards compatibility all the way back to the PS1 - that's probably far too much of a stretch for them.

Have you seen the performance hits that RT takes? It’s on the order of 40-50% at 4K. Telling devs to do 4K with RT is telling them to devote a huge portion of the hardware budget to some shiny reflections and lighting. It’s dumb.

For ray trAcing to become larger on PC it needs console support. Devs will then want to implement it. And thus when implementing it on console hardware it will run better on higher end pcs

The PS5 is hardware compatible with the PS4 user. It’s the same type of CPU and a new generation of GPU. It really is like running an old game on a new PC.

Backwards compatibility on consoles in the past was always done by bolting the old hardware onto the new board, like the PS1 CPU was the PS2 IO controller, the Genesis has a Z80 for sound, etc. MS emulated the old hardware in software because they had to; the Jaguar CPU can’t process the PPC instructions which can’t process the Pentium 3. But if they could have done it in hardware they would have.

fps is not determined by the console power, but by what the developers choose to do with the game.

Xbox OG back compat is easier than 360 back compat because OG xbox is x86 just like the xbox one. The reason they have so few games is because every back compat game also has to be in the store and a lot of those old games have expired licenses because of music and stuff so they can't put it back on the store. It's only games which have got approval from the publisher like KoTOR or SW: BF2 which they can put on the store. Same goes for 360 back compat. Black ops 2 was the most requested back compat game for ages but MS said they had to make a deal with activision to have it in the store again. Some games like DmC HD collection on xbox 360 was refused back compat on xbox one because capcom wanted to release the port as a full game for current gen instead (which sucks because I bought it on xbox 360 and the current gen port is identical).
