When you can just do moogle and namazu everyday and deliveries every week it's not that bad. Only 5 levels of bsm left and I'm done with crafters, started in December though.

Kind of, if people feel like doing NMs and not prepping one of three endgame NMs there which don't give you good exp until you're almost done being there. In the meantime you have an extremely clausterphobic experience trying to getting around monsters but being pressed for time as NMs are stretched all across the map to areas you won't be able to teleport to at first.

If you can make it to elemental level 41 you're set. The mount from FFXV might make it more tolerable as everyone will now have access to pillon.

The highest savage raid I can do is Alphascape 1.0 and most stuff I find on the pf is for 4.0 which I cant even do. I've wanted to grind for genesis but having to do something only weekly sounds unappealing

You could probably bump your item level up within a single week due to the cap increase of tomestones. Give it a try. Also get some gear from the ivalice raid.

I'm new to the game, and all I know about BLU is that it's a limited class. Why would it have been considered difficult to make it a full job? What's the point of the "limited" status of it?

This Noctis event was so incredibly half baked in every aspect.
The fate is cool until you go to grind it for the event exclusive resource and have to wait for a random spawn.
The first instanced battle is cool until you realise it's the same shit for ten whole minutes with one enemy to hit and two attack patterns to dodge.
The second instance is cool until Noctis dies after five minutes and you have to start again, meanwhile ping is STILL AN ISSUE in single player content. Tanks and healers can literally ignore all mechanics here and come out fine, and can put out more damage if they do so, meaning it's quicker and better to do so.
Having the car available is cool until it's 200,000 MGP which you can only get by wasting your time in an online casino. Literally designed to waste your time. They know their audience because everyone's willing to consider whether it's worth hanging out in a virtual casino just to get a reused asset. We're all paying for this, and what they're telling us we want is complete bullshit.

200,000mgp is incredibly easy to get, quit your whining, and having to do all of three fates to get every orchestrion scroll is something you'll be done with in 20 minutes, if you even care about having those, both instances are piss easy.

The point isn't they're easy, the point is they're time consuming while being entirely incompetently assembled. You're paying for time when you play this, so the more they waste your time the more they waste your money.

According to the devs, it would be difficult to retain its job identity if you had to go out and learn skills because you would not be welcome in parties if your kit was lacking.

Not sure why you'd want to go back now. The new content isn't any good. The playerbase is dead. And soon after launch all the crafting options made people OP as fuck, messing with any sense of balance in the game.

Good points, the specific design is obviously different but there's a lot to be compared in general design.
The grind is not the core per se, rather the need to consume time is. Grind is the common means to that end because the alternate solutions are probably either random content, or a humongous amount of effort to design more unique content. Gatcha and FFXIV share the grind as the simple time consumer.
The seasonals are not the core of either but coax you into coming back for it. It's a bit more of a hit with a monthly sub based system but the idea is the same; bring the player back and try and retain them into another paying customer.
The plot is drawing too, but the real draw here is the simple skinner box. Simply being skinner boxed is what most people playing will feel the most return from. Everyone who isn't doing MSQ is probably feeding into the skinner box and square knows it, otherwise we wouldn't be seeing the likes of eureka around, or the deep dungeons. The plot takes a back seat to this, often being broken in favor of myriad "walk to x location" missions where other final fantasy feels comfortable to transition location in cutscene.
The semantics of the FFXIV compared to gatcha say they're different, but on a fundamental level they employ the same methods to make the most money off of players. The random loot might not come from a cash shop, but every second you play is sub time worth money to square, and so every random drop chance is equivalent to a micro loot box. Paired with the skinner box, time doling method, it shares a startling appeal to something we generally shit all over for doing the same things.

Hell no. The game its extremely half baked, maybe even quarter baked. There is no real impetus in the plot and you just do things for seemingly no good reason. It begins with you hunting down Royal Arms to build strength, then out of nowhere tells you to summon Astrals, then out of nowhere again you go on a literal train ride of cut content. The entire second half of the game is insultingly bad. At one point, you arrive at a train station with a goal to reach an island. If you look to the horizon you can see hills and a bustling town. If you open your map you can even see the town layout. But if you try to leave the train station you are teleported instantly to the dungeon you were going to. Its beyond fucking terrible.

Nevermind the bad combat system which literally plays itself, or the fact that the game has a damage limit that you can reach within the first few hours of the game, a poorly thought out spellcrafting system, party members who aren't playable until beating their DLC, which spoils the story so you can't even do it from the start, and all sorts of fucking nonsense like hunt progress not carrying over to the end game.

I'm getting angry just thinking about how shit the game is.

The best you may be able to say about it objectively is that it gets a lot of ideas right but then doesn't sustain them long enough through the game for the experience to feel in anyway remarkable. It really does feel like wasted potential, because you can see it there. The game desperately needed another year in development, but given all the problems Versus XIII went through over the years, the fact FFXV came out the way it did, I think, was pretty remarkable.

Mediocre doesn't mean bad. It means average with a negative connotation. FFXV has too many objectively shit things in it to be considered mediocre. To call FFXV mediocre is to shy away from calling it what it really is, a bad, rushed, poorly thought out game that was released 3 years too early. The fact that the DLC episodes exists, or even that god awful trainride, shows that the game had potential that was squandered by production problems. This event doesn't feel nearly as well-made as I expected. In fact I'd almost say it feels downright low effort, though I'm not quite at the Garuda fight yet. Was the Lightning/XIII event like this? With dramatic music and the characters standing around with unfitting poses and animations for the scene, and weirdly stiff dialog? Because one day I'm hoping they work the old events (sans rewards of course) into the NQ+ menu/system once its in place, and considering I've been hoping for it to come back for a year now (since I started playing) I have this sinking feeling it was just as shitty.

It's got about the best online co-op I can find. Killing Floor used to be my go to for this, but it just doesn't pull the player base. Having a social side integrated into the game with that just lets it do that better than any other game at this point. After SB came out I've just been unhappy with how the content has come and what has come. I'm not bothered for the rest if the part I really enjoy is doing good enough, but it feels like that balance isn't doing so good of late.

I'd say there are a few alternatives to plain wasting time. Arcade games made to have quick rounds to waste quarters maybe. Furi was really good for not wasting too much time, 90% of my first playthrough was playing new content.

FFXV's problems have little to do with the world building but the actual gameplay. Like the 9999 damage limit being reachable by spells early game, but also making spells poor in the late game. Or how you can just hold O and the game will play itself for the most part. Or how about how incredibly tedious and pointless the quest design is and how unfulfilling the rewards for completing side content is? The game has some good elements. Hunts are somewhat enjoyable. The dungeons are worth going through, the soundtrack is great, the world is pretty, and playing as Ignis and Prompto is actually pretty fun. But for all the good things the game has, there are 3 bad things to go with it and overall, the experience is dragged down by it.

There's a bunch of Noctis exposition, backstory and subtlty in XV and its media. The personality and depth is there.
Problem is almost all of XV's characterization is about his extreme, crippling depression. Everything else is about how he feels about and reacts to other characters or how he develops as a hero when exposed to narrative stimuli. There are plenty of other aspects to his character, like his absurd aloofness, the fact that he basically lives in a dreamlike haze, that he's passionate, that he has strong convictions. The problem is that they are only established rather than expressed and elaborated upon. These serve only to further convey his depression. We get to see how he's mostly disinterested until something he's passionate about presents itself, but only in a context that allows this to see how messed up he is rather than the depth of his enthusiasm and dedication to his hobbies. It's the difference between "Oh I love fishing holy shit *everyone is taken aback*" and "I'm stuck in an alternate dimension...Im gonna fish. *catches 12 red snapper in half an hour*"

It's like if FF7 only focused on how Cloud is mentally insane. That one chunk of Noctis is characterized, but the rest is left as factoids rather than a meaningful, expressed part of the whole. XIV managed to actually express these traits because it allowed Noctis to act and react outside of simple banter and serious plot progression. It gave him a structural foundation on which to actually show what he's like instead of implying it.

64bit version of FFXIV is a fork of FFXV's engine. It's not based on more than a decade old software anymore, that was 1.0 and the PS3 version.

If you're talking blue mage, they're well balanced in both. I'd say it leans more toward the cool side anyway. Silly spells such as 4T weight, sardine, and bad breath are there sure. But you also have stuff like Ram's/Dragon's Voice, Glower, The Look, Mighty Guard, White Wind, Blazing Agnon, Flame Thrower, and primal powers and even more.

it blows my mind that a lot of skills that BLU has could easily be an oGCD but are a hardcast for some reason. Loom, Off-Guard, Moon Flute, Bomb Toss, etc. It's stupid.

BLU has a lot of problems, like practically everything having cast times, the learn rates are shit, the job isn't nearly powerful enough to justify any of its limitations or tedium, etc. etc.

Loom is the big one for me since it'd be super handy as an instant-cast. I have to Swiftcast it to actually use it how I want to.
