It's a good game and it's still popular. But yes, it's not as popular as Fortnite. Probably because it doesn't have the bright cartoony aesthetic that appeals to kids and tweens like Fortnite does. If they really want that market, that's what they need to integrate. And more brightly-coloured, wacky, zany costumes that can be bought for real money. IF they want that market.

Personally I definitely prefer Apex as a game to Fortnite though. I think Apex is a game most enjoyed by slightly older players.

Basically teammates and the pacing at the start. It's super frustrating to get into a game with a retard who breaks off and gets killed in a 3 way firefight that lasts 3 minutes. Also there are a ton of obvious hackers.

Lack of proper updates. They've done fucking nothing.
Hitreg is getting worse with every small patch they do somehow and people are getting bored.
Game really needs solo mode and smaller things like wallrunning etc

An inherent issue with BRs: they tried to pander to the more ''hardcore'' crowd.
This doesn't mix well with BRs. This is also why the shooting in Fortnite is absolute dogshit and just pure RNG.

game literally gets boring. its the only BR i know where literally everyone who's played it has won a fuck ton of times, between that and the fact that there's no real way to grind cosmetics after level 100 there's no real reason to keep playing other than improving and trying to impress yourself with sick plays, and even then it doesn't have the gameplay variety of Fortnite to make truly memorable moments that go beyond out-aiming a squad of 3 really terrible players. it only has one small as fuck map that everyone knows like the back of their hand so it gets too repetitive for "w-w-whatever happened to playing just for fun"

The crashes made me stop playing. It was always a gamble whether I'd be able to make it through a few rounds or if it'd freeze as soon as we jumped. They should've waited to fix it and release a good working product rather than beta version shit
