The first 4 seconds uses no gauge, has no start-up and you can exit the mode, which means no gauge is ever used.

So it just occurred to me a while back.
Sparda made all three of his Devil Arms, meaning they were all originally part of him. Now remember what those swords are.
A sword that cuts dimensions and probably even concepts. Man from Demon and all that, space, etcetera
A sword that apparently gets stronger by absorbing things, probably other demons it kills and even Devil Arms.
And then, of course, his own personal Devil Arm which was just a huge Fuck You stick.
Sparda forged these, and probably had to do so using his own soul. Imagine what Sparda must have been like before doing that. All three swords came from him, so he had all their combined power. This explains why everyone got BTFO'd so hard when Sparda went 'nah' all those years ago.
OG Sparda was a terrifying motherfucker, and it explains why Mundus had to eat a fucking fruit to become king because otherwise he and literally anyone else would get wrecked if Sparda felt like it. Crazy bastard probably nerfed himself on purpose.

Funny you say that because muscle memory from Vergil 3 is what made me get raped by him as early as SoS. Vergil plays completely different from his any recurring version of him in 3. Mostly because this Vergil is based on his 4 Special Edition version.
That being said, they do need to do something more interesting with level design and give more weapons to Nero besides Red Queen. Dante in 5 has so much shit that he can use at any given time, I don't know how can they shake him up even further.

Red Queen randomly shapeshifting would be visually stale, come out of no where and probably limit the extent to which you can actually change things up if you use it as the base.
It would probably work less like Donte's weapons switching then Vorgil's Yamato stances, and while that's a way to expand moveset I'd find it boring.
Cavaliere was almost Nero's and set to have him rev it up like Red Queen.
You can do a lot more with the press button to power weapon up system than just copy and paste exceed onto different weapons.
Even if you do just copy and base exceed you can make it more interesting at least visually and behaviour wise in subtle ways.

That's actually based on actual demonology which is all about the power behind the names of demons. There are plenty of demonology texts describing how you can gain control over demons by knowing their name. DMC was the last place I'd expect a reference like that. Pretty cool.

Nah. Dante always knows what's he's fucking doing. Yeah that looks unga but it takes finesse. Nero's movements need practice but the way he uses his body to swing around his sword to add momentum makes it feel more brutish

If he just eats souls then I'd having them completely subsume the soul and power within himself, make it so the souls are just a part of him that can't be ripped away anymore.
