I'm convinced the extreme claim of love for the original 2 personas is just typical Yea Forums hipsterism because of how over popular 3-5 have gotten
1 and 2 are fun to play through but they are really rough
Same with other old SMT games like Soul Hackers, neat games but not very fun

While the story and aesthetic are interesting Persona 2 plays like hot garbage. 1 is hot garbage. 3 isn't particularly good either. 4 Golden and 5 are the only great ones.

Probably because Yea Forums tricked a lot of people into playing it by constantly praising it and saying it's so much better than 5 only for everyone to discover what I already knew when I played it in 1999. It's absolute garbage.

4 is basically a slightly updated version of 3, 5 is pretty different though.

Person 2 is good but it's contrarianism.

The plot starts with a really interesting premise, rumors are becoming reality and masked man named Joker whats to take revenge againts you and your group of friends and has a reason for it. Here were cool after that not so much all the plot is building around Joker and his plans but all goes to shit after the defeat of King Leo because the game thinks that is a gonna idea introducing SPACE MAIAS and secret order of Hitler and hitler himself with a 10 minutes long infodump with absolute no foreshadowing(magnific writting) After that the plot get's hijacked into the oblivion all the things related about Joker gets resolved in the most quick and underwhelming way possible and things like Eikichi and Mayas vendetta against Joker gets swept under the rug

Characters aren't any better Maya was genuiely good and his role as the big sister of the group was cool. Eikichi is the most static character in all the fuckign series he's just there the moment you think he has changed and develiped a bit comes back again to be the buttmonkey narcissit of the group. Lisa is just weird the game talks about all those problems she have with people but never takes a moment to show us her situation fuck even her friends were good with her and she still played the martyr also all this stuff about whoring to old men comes out of nowhere in his shadow battle and never is brought again, it looks like it's just there to make Maya look better that's just simply bad. Yukino fucks of halfway through the game and left us with Jun who is a good boy who dindu nuffin with a redemption arc that would make Goro blush . Also characters like executives are left forgotten or unresolved in some quick way which left a bad taste in my mouth.

And that's without talking about that fucking atrocious gameplay worst in the series by leaps and bounds. Happy now?

Persona 2 gets praised just because it's not nuPersona and most contrarians probably couldn't even finish 1. It does have the best story, but the stories in the other games were always mediocre and secondary to the more central aspects.

This, if you think it's bad you've probably never played any JRPGs older than the PS2 except Final Fantasy and Pokemon.
The original release can be a little bit tedious, but it's not that big a deal unless you're trying to rush through the game as fast as possible which is what I imagine most zoomers who play the game are doing.

What's so bad about P2 gameplay? The first one was way worse in this aspect especially when there was the same track playing every battle over and over again. P2 also had only one battle music but at least it wasn't so annoying.
