>hardcore fans start shitting on him starting with Wind Waker for taking the series into a progressively more cinematic, linear and puzzle infested direction >Reach the apex of this criticism after Skyward Sword comes out >Takes a step back and takes all the criticism to heart, takes a risk on a new direction for the series >Makes one of THE best games of all time and an instant 10/10 masterpiece for his efforts
Name a better Nintendo redemption arc than Eiji Aonuma. Pro-tip: You can't.
I come from the future and Metroid prime 4 with be the next Btow.
Levi Rogers
Hardcore fans are autistic pieces of shit, pandering to them has always ruined every franchise or company. If he simply listened to the normies & critics instead, we would have gotten a fully fleshed out Wind Waker sequel & the series would have progressed far past Ocarina of Time when it first came out
Luis Russell
Except BOTW has a plethora of dumb issues and design flaws
Nathaniel Anderson
But botw has no dungeons and only mini puzzles, how is that a step back.
John Ross
They're not issues that previously plagued the series though but a byproduct of the new direction. It installs confidence that they are things that will be worked out in the next installment since they're not just making the same mistakes every game like Pokemon does.
Juan Jones
With how long it's going to take it better
Brody Rogers
test
Daniel Wilson
Aonuma's problem is that he takes all his criticism to the opposite extreme and makes it worse than it was before. He does not know how to be moderate, also he doesn't even know why MM is his most popular title
Camden Nelson
MM has never been the most popular Zelda, you are utterly delusional if you even think it's in the top 4 at this point
Evan Hall
BOTW is so goddamn overrated. >Dungeons were boring and looked the same >bosses were boring and looked the same >final boss was crap >story was crap >many of the shrines repeated the same puzzle types >a fuck ton of the shrines were just tests of strength. >most of the sidequests suck
One of my most disappointing gaming experiences, honestly.
Eli Barnes
BotW is a zelda game only by name, it has nothing to do with previous iterations and if you just took out the symbolism such as triforces, twinks and fishmen you'd have an unrecognizably new casual open world survival trash
It's not a bad game but I can't help feel sad about the wasted potential and the fact that a series I enjoyed for many years will never return to the way I liked it
Do you really think one single guy can change whole huge development?
Hudson Cruz
That's why I said it was HIS most popular title, dipshit. He didn't direct the series until MM. And you're delusional if you think anything TP and beyond is better than MM, the game that turned OoT on its head and did it without trying to be all cinematic and crap. His newer titles Wreak of live action Disney reboots.
Ian Morgan
>Nintendo fanboys praising the extremely limited and extremely average exclusives catalog of their console to high heaven in order to make it seem like they make up for the lack of other games Now where have I heard that one before
Nintenbabs are delusional, they're so starved for novelty that they'll think of any deviation from the 20 year old stagnant formula as the second coming of Christ. I like Nintendo games, I like Zelda games, some of them are my favorite games ever, ALttP is in my top 10, and I think BotW is a fine game, but calling "one of the best ever" is nothing but blind fanboyism.
Jayden Martin
name one open world game with a physics engine as interactive, fun and polished as BotW dumb sony cocksucker
Juan Sanders
quality>quantity
Dylan Price
Anyone who craps on him is literally functionally retarded.
He designed tons of content, including entire dungeons, for OoT and MM. When he actually worked on the games, everyone praised his work. When he was moved up to figurehead, everyone lost their minds and pretends he didn't hand-craft much of the OoT and MM content they love to fellate.
They also LOVE to ignore the fact that OoT was the first huge step in "cinematic and linear" direction the series took, each following game refined that formula, with games such as WW not even following it completely.
Evan Green
PS1 had a far superior lineup of games, but the N64 had better games
Jaxson Cruz
Are interactive physics engines now the standard by which we judge the quality of games?
Juan Wright
It's exactly like the NES games, you retard.
Kevin King
>Makes one of THE best games of all time and an instant 10/10 masterpiece for his efforts This is what nin-toddlers actually believe
>it has nothing to do with previous iterations and if you just took out the symbolism such as triforces, twinks and fishmen
>it's not zelda if the remove the zelda things in it wew
Jason Scott
...do you really think that "regular" Zelda is just gone forever? I don't think they'd ever just completely abandon it
Nathaniel White
Aonuma didn't even direct Skyward Sword and Breath of the Wild.
Aonuma's "contributions" to the franchise after Twilight Princess are telling dev teams they need to tack on some shitty gimmick or feature (the train in Spirit Tracks, the motion controls in Skyward Sword, etc). I wouldn't be surprised if he told Fujibayashi he needed to copy modern AAA open world games for Breath of the Wild.
Fujibayashi, left to his own devices, would probably make Oracle of Ages/Seasons but in 3D.
Carson Lewis
Except 2D zeldas dont actually factor into the equation because they also have fuck all to do with modern zelda beyond symbolism and setting
By that logic, heavily modded Skyrim can qualify as a Zelda game
Sebastian Ross
>OoT was the first huge step in "cinematic and linear" direction the series took >Implying it wasn't LttP
Isaac Ortiz
Buy the LA remake then faggot
Cameron Lopez
I still don't know how it got 97. I'm not kidding or trying to shit on it, it's just an above average game.
Connor Evans
It was actually Adventure of Link. Well at least the linear part.
Easton Garcia
meant this guy I do think it's basically gone forever because the game received nothing but praise from the general public
Joshua Roberts
Thank you. LttP was the first LOLSTORY Zelda and is just as bad as the ones that came after. The only good Zelda games are the NES ones.
Brayden Mitchell
Literally every other rockstar open world game
David Evans
>the only thing that makes Zelda Zelda is a handful of iconography
You disgust me.
Charles Evans
I know this is Yea Forums, but are you incapable of anything but massive hyperbole?
Gabriel Green
>It was actually Adventure of Link.
AoL is actually massively more open than most people think. You can access most of the overworld from the start, and without setting foot into any dungeon, can obtain most of the spells.
Dominic Myers
Aonuma always seems to listen to criticism, I feel like he might go to the extreme though.
>Wind Waker too Cartoony? >TP is now super dark artistically >Skyward Sword was too hand holdy and has a small linear overworld? >BotW is now complete open but at the expense of dungeons being as good
Don't get me wrong though, BotW is great. But if it had dungeons as good as SS, it would have actually been the perfect game, in my opinion.
John Roberts
>gameplay doesn't matter, only superficial elements might as well be a spinoff
Joseph Long
It has the same gameplay as the other entry.
Josiah Williams
Yes, sometime a unique aspect lets people ignore other flaws if that unique aspect was incredibly fun. Are you retarded? morons like you make me realize that people who 'dislike' botw never really understood how to play the game and were probably just running from marker to marker like its a assassin's creed game.
Easton Hall
what other entry
Alexander Hughes
>clunky fps samus will be good nah, the novelty wore off with the first prime as the 2nd and 3rd game sold poorly
>take mechanics from most of the popular modern day open world games on the market >OMG! HE LISTENED TO THE FANS AND TOTALLY DIDN'T PLAY INTO CURRENT MARKET TRENDS! BEST ZELDA EVER!!!
>people keep pushing this lie Just because it's open world does not mean it plays anything like the original Zelda. Stop saying this stupid fucking shit. I'm convinced people who say this have never even played NES Zelda.
Botw oh look a shrine hmm took 2 seconds to figure out. oh another shrine huh another shitty shrine Link you must go to this shrine hey dont forget that shrine
Ryan Hall
Nintendo literally said they listened to feedback though.
