Sakurai has held disdain for basic movement options since brawl, his approach game is extremely hampered by the lack of movement in a 2d platfor game rule number one, YOUR MOMENTUM IS CARRIED IN YOUR FUCKING JUMP. Even if you dash at mach fucking speed you're gonna jump 4 feet becauss fuck you. Super mario got it right in 1985 but sakurai refuses to put it back in since he removed it in brawl because he hates satisfying movement.

Falcon is the most fun in Wii U/3DS. Falcon isn't really that much worse, he just plays in a convoluted way in Ultimate (compared to dash grab -> up air chain)

Falcon just isn't as fun since the removal of proper dash to jump momentum. It's kinda like how Yoshi is now without Double Jump Cancel and what it enables. Yoshi used to be perhaps the most unique character in the game but now he's kind of just another all rounder.

Honestly, he plays more like melee than ever. It’s the lack of momentum in the game that gimps him. Falcon used to get so horizontal. You would force people into position and the next move followed. Now, their DI and falcons fixed jumps/anims cripple all his moves intentions.

I feel like they forgot it moving to brawl and don’t have the balls to admit it.
The real problem is it’s a game wide issue. They can give just him momementum... but that seems unfair. Or they can give EVERYONE momentum... and everyone else is now broken.
It's one of my two big problems with ultimate, the other being the knock back starting too high but scaling slowly so you can't really follow up on a lot of stuff.
Air momentum honestly could solve parts of my problems with knock back.
I play Falcon in melee and I like him here. It's just that his combos are more obtuse unlike Melee's where they can either be complicated or not depending on your opponent tech mixups and DI tendencies. In Ultimate the complication comes from the fact that his combo tree is more restricted.
But that’s because of lack of momentum. In melee you can hit and launch someone and get to where you want to hit them with any of like 5 moves. In Ultimate, you have to wait for percentage windows, and if that window flies by then you have

Literally nothing wrong with this.
The problem is this was instituted across the board so that anyone could pick up the game and do some damage and get a good follow up opportunity. It’s like an auto combo button. Huge active frames, hit box, knock back, travel. In melee there was no such standard move. They did the same to grab, and most people’s move sets have been simplified to basically have the same effect. The roster move sets have been made generic.
I wish Sakurai would bring back tripping.

When you start fighting opponents that know how to crouch cancel, comboing with Falcon in melee can become as much of a problem as in ultimate. Then again, the restriction in melee is your opponent defense whereas in ultimate it's frame windows and rage. The later is more noticeable at lower/mid levels whereas the former is only noticeable when you start playing actual top 1000 players.
Sakurai intentionally makes new smash games bad. If another good platform fighter is ever released, someone else will be behind it.

lmao what? crouch cancel certainly makes your defense waaaaaay better, but don't compare that shit to ultimate. Falcon has some of the best tools in the game for breaking crouch cancel with stomp and knee. Even with crouch cancelling your still going to get your juggles into knee plenty of times. Just go watch s2j if you need proof.
