Sonic

Why the hell didn't Mania play like this without any mods or cheats?

Because Taxman is a dumbass.

A huge one apparently.

Because most of them are redundant.

>giving people more options is redundant

How? Do you hate gameplay or something?

You can do this in the base game without mods. Just hit 9,0,0,1 in the soundtest. It's really not that big a deal

they're literally not though

You have to assign buttons to those moves, so yes.

all those moves use one button the fuck are you talking about?

Yes but it should be Sonic's abilities without having to do all of that.

Its the least cumbersome thing to do, and again, it's in the game, no need for mods. There's literally no reason to complain about it.

>Waaaah
>Why won't the devs let me use anything I want without any effort
>Waaaah
Play the game the normal way faggot.

Probably because they wanted you to get used to the new Drop Dash mechanic first. It doesn't matter now anyway, all you have to do now is click a checkbox on the Mania Mod Loader to enable this anyway.

Because it's overpowered/overwhelming to a first time player

Wait hold the fuck on. Mario can have many different abilities but then this is too hard for a Sonic game to have? Bullshit

Have you seen how many people can't even grasp the concept of pressing down to curl into a ball, and say the games are shit because you can't go too fast without running into enemies?

Attached: servbotmegamanlegends9.48.jpg (210x240, 11K)

first off those all take a second button, also:
A = jump
B = drop dash
LB = peel out
X = spindash
Y = super transform
RB = midair shield
and you've still got both triggers open for whatever

*single button not second button

This is literally what Rich Evans and Bald Cunt from Red Letter Media did. In their "review" they based their opinions on the game without even fucking knowing the game is designed around curling into a ball at certain points, since Sonic put in the effort NOT to just be Mario.

Peel out is fucking useless though. But maybe that was just a side effect of Sonic CD level design trying to stop you from going fast.

What's the problem with cheats? That was a good idea for a cheat

It is not useless.

How convincing.

Are you confusing 3D Mario and 2D Mario? 2D Mario is as simple as the first 4 classic era games were, unlike 3D Mario.

3D Mario needs all that extra shit for movement options, you literally don't for 2D. Same applies to Sonic, the only thing they could have kept intact was the insta shield.

Sonic should not have an arsenal of abilities. That's actually worse for gameplay, not better. You need one ability that lets you build momentum from a standstill and that's it.

Having both Drop Dash and Instashield is fine because both offer completely different functionality, one for level traversal and momentum and the other for offense/defense. Anything more than that is pushing it yeah.

I'd actually argue that the instashield isn't great, either. Sonic's jump was designed to be versatile because simply doing the jump is itself the attack. It means strategizing around jumping, attacking, and making sure you aren't in the line of fire all in one move. It's elegant in it's simplicity.

It is faster than spindash.

Peel out is pointless and insta-shield was always broken, overpowered shit.

Not him but the only reason for it is really only in S3K, as some enemies like the black spiked orbinaut are completely invincible and cannot be killed in any way without using the Instashield (except being Super or Invincible as well of course), plus it extends your hitbox for better range to attack bosses without taking damage. Most people don't even know this in S3K at all and is the reason people undermine its usefulness I feel.

Then I guess we should just drop the spindash instead.

In CD. Every other game it's actually slower to get full speed by mashing fast enough, and, you're invincible to enemies with the spindash charge unlike the Peel-Out. I'm certain the only thing about anything from CD is because it's from CD, not because it's objectively better, like the shitty ass high pitched jump sound from CD>

What is the fucking point of the super peel out?

I'm fine with ditching the instashield since it's incredibly OP once you learn how to use it properly and makes an already easy game even more of a cakewalk.

This guy knows Insta-shield is so fucking OP once you get good at it. Drop Dash really is all Sonic needs out of those.

The mod every Sonic game needs is what Sonic 3 A.I.R. gave to Tails; cancel flying. It makes playing Tails/Solo Tails actually fun, something I never thought could happen.

insta shield gives a great deal of flexibility and utility in his attacks, not just in being able to hit otherwise impenetrable enemies, but also extending his hitbox slightly to hit enemies or bosses that are either slightly out or reach, or get a better angle on his bounce. At least, that's how it was in Sonic 3. Damn thing sucks in Mania.

do you have to make an argument out of everything?

And the instashield doesn't involve strategizing and skill as well? Well timed instashield can protect you from spike damage with its i-frames. In 3 Complete and 3 AIR, they also restored one of the intended features to deflect projectiles which also requires precision. And as the other user said, it's good for spiked enemies as well.

The mod Mania needs is to fix the goddamn shit controls. It's annoying enough normally but really shows how crap it is on that fucking early autoscrolling boss fight where you might as well just feed your controller into a random movement generator, you'll have equal chance of success.

Nothing wrong with cutting fat.

Sonic CD always rubbed me the wrong way. Everything about it feels "off" while simultaneously seeming like a really good Sonic game on the surface. Having to charge the spin dash to full before it actually does anything is one of those things.

>filling the entire controller with actions
>instead of a single button
Please get a grasp on game design

>Insta-shield is OP

>cancel Tails flying
My god...

The only good part of CD objectively is the fantasy setting, which would have made Sonic's world feel far more unique and better suited than that pseudo realism USA shit that 3D Sonic started with, and the classic games op'd to do, but at least they kept it in line with Sonic's design unlike in future installments.

There's cutting fat and then there's making yourself anorexic

The fuck are you even talking about? The game handles beautifully

>cancel flying
Fighting with Tails meandering in the air was the worst part of the game. That's huge.

But you don't even unlock the abilities until you've beaten the game.

I like the game to a degree, but The level design in CD is just too jumbled. 2 was on the right track, and they perfected it by Knuckles. CDs gameplay was a bit more exploratory though

Tails cancel is great, makes him so fun to play. Why is Sonic 3 AIR so based bros? He even made it so that these missles only need to hit once to open the floor like in Mania. Once future patches and more modding options hit, this will 100% surpass 3 Complete.

Yes, but OP is saying all those moves should be available from the start.

The assumption is that OP wants all those abilities at once at the start

dude I can lame out every boss in S3+K with Insta Shield and not get touched. I'm not even good at the game at all.

It's great to have during the levels I will say that, deflecting random bullets is a nifty thing. It's just too much for bosses.

Well SMW had some movement options besides just simply jump. It also had power ups with the cape being pretty in depth. No reason Sonic can't have this and everything in that video posted would be very great and welcome in all future 2D Sonic games.

What else big does it do besides 16:9?

You can easily do that without the instashield. It's practically a staple of boss design in Sonic.

I know what it does. I just don't think it adds much to the experience when it's utility is really just to make jumping less risky. Sonic's design was so great because attacking enemies and putting yourself in harms way were the exact same thing. Sonic's body is his weapon. The instashield undermines this dynamic.

You cannot tell me that's true if you've actually played it. You just can't. It's a fucking nightmare. I fucking refunded that game on Steam because of that shit.

I thought you could play with all of them but without saving? no need for the sound test

>You can easily do that without the instashield.
Right, so imagine how much easier that shit becomes when the instashield IS included.

This. Insta shield is FINE, I’d rather have it than nothing, but the Drop Dash is a better replacement

Then you’re either a zoomer or adult who never played classic sonic titles, because he controls precisely the same way in 2, 3, and Knuckles

>The instashield undermines this dynamic.
no it doesn't.

>I’d rather have it than nothing, but the Drop Dash is a better replacement
Why does it need to be one or the other?

i don't think you've grasped the level design in sonic cd. it's not supposed to be like sonic 2 or 3k

Also which boss fight specifically were you referring to?

>precisely the same way in 2/3/K
HAHAHAHHA holy fucking hell, kid.

I'm old enough to be your dad and owned all the fucking original Sonic games and NONE of them had the fucking awkward, LOLRANDOM shit controls of Mania. You're just masturbating to overhyped, viral marketed new games.

>Why does it need to be one or the other?
This, they don't even get in the way of each other. I don't understand why faggots aren't okay with both just being there.

>underage brainlet can't into slopped physics

Because it makes putting yourself in danger much more trivial. I’d appreciate it more if either:
>the mechanic was leaned on more, with enemies and boss modes that required you hit them with the slash to actually do damage
Or
>IS is just a dodge, but won’t deal damage

>I haven't played it, confirmed
What other fucking autoscrolling boss is there early on? If you've played it, you will KNOW how bad the fucking controls are.

Mario and Sonic are fundamentally different games. Mario is a lot more vulnerable than Sonic during normal level traversal so he can do things like shoot fireballs and fly when he has certain power ups. Sonic is more about momentum. He can advance forward and attack enemies at the same time with a single technique.

I literally said the game design is different for CD. It just happens to be worse for it IMO

>no it doesn't.
Excellent rebuttal?

I played it twice through when it came out and the only auto scrolling ones that come to mind are
>HBH rollercoaster boss, which the one I assume you’re talking about. I just wanted you to actually clarify so I had a better idea what troubles you might be having
> Metal Sonic but that’s later
> The spider boss but that’s vertical and different than a running boss
>...?

>Because it makes putting yourself in danger much more trivial.
Not really, at least not in a way that trivializes the games challenge. The extended hit range, is more of a convenience than a massive power boost, and if you want to make use of the invincibility frames you'd be actively putting yourself in more risk trying to pass through danger rather than avoid it.

I assume it's talking about the studiopolis miniboss, and the kid can't into getting a running start to jump over the missiles, or ramping off of the bumps in the road for extra height.

Sure. Like I said I’m fine with the IS, I just think the Drop dash is okay by itself,

but why can't we have both?

I actually just looked up the bosses to see if I was forgetting any and I had forgotten that you fight Egg Robo as the Green Hill boss. If that user is complaining about being unable to beat that boss and then returning the game I will have a good laugh

I never said they had to each go on a button, it was the user I replied to who was whining that you needed a button for each move
