On what planet is Hector cancer? He's good, sure, and arguably better than he should be even. But Hector is one of the only male characters in FE history who gets fair treatment in FEH. Just compare all the red mages and tell me this game doesn't have a clear bias towards female characters. And what about Seth? Or Haar? They're two of the strongest men in FE history and they're trash in Heroes. Yet Karla and Soliel? They're way better than they have any right to be. What about Halloween Myrrh? Brave Veronica? Ophelia? Winter Tharja? L!Azura? Both Micaiahs? Brave Lyn? And the list goes on. Most people's teams are 75-100% female units. The only males you see regularly are Reinhardt and Surtr. Almost all the best units in the game are female.
Duma is garbage. Especially compared to all the female Dragons who got the 'trainee' stat bonuses. I'll give you Tibarn and Surtr, though. Game still has WAY more good female characters compared to male ones and a clear bias towards making female characters better they were or should be.

Nyx actually omega sucks to baby and if her hp doesnt level up then she falls off pretty quick. But when she does get good level ups she gradually becomes easier to train and much more useful

Book 2 and 3 are separate stories that are loosely related, and they kind of encourage new players to start with them whenever. You get free units for doing the first couple chapters so it's worth.
Do Book 2 and 3's opening chapters to grab a free Fjorm and Eir, then go to the paralogues and grab your free Legendary Ike.
Oh, and if you haven't chosen your freebie CYL units yet, grab Brave Lyn and Brave Veronica, you're really going to want them for later.

They aren't meta in Arena but Arena is Armor/Dragonfest feat. your Legendary Unit + Whatever Bonus unit you're forced to run that week.

If you haven't already, go get your free Fjorm, Eir, and Ike. I'd also recommend choosing Veronica and Lyn as your free CYL picks and rerolling until you get LAzura.
Aside from that do Arena/Aether Raids/Arena Assault even if you score poorly for the rewards.
I would suggest having a decent team for each movement type and working from there.

At least units like Narcian or Usula come with weapons or skills that you might want to pass on to somebody else.
Hoping for Hero Severa with an ax so Cordelia user can get access to a good green unit for his team.

I don't see the issue with making manuals out of your limited units if you still have one to actually use.

This means don't merge 4 star units to make a +10. Those technically get stats equivalent to a 5 +5, but in the long term is not worth it, especially since feathers are very easy to get.

Manuals are a way to recycle units and keep them for merges or skills, you can even promote them but they stop being actual units in your barracks (which is also good as that frees space). The limited units are the ones you get in stuff like Grand Hero Battle or Tempest Trials. At most you can at least keep one copy and manual the rest, but do not manual them all because they might never get a rerun and you'd be forced to spend grails to get a usable one.
I'd honestly suggest restarting and rerolling until you get a L! Azura, though you could just wait for her next banner and just save up orbs for her.
She's a really fucking strong unit, probably the strongest in the game, it's worth grabbing her if you can.

If you want to use Ophelia, look into Lewyn or Keaton next time they're around so you can inherit Special Spiral onto her. Between that and her unique tome, she can start off with a fully charged 3 turn special that recharges after every fight, assuming they don't have Guard. Pair that with the AoE specials and a few dancers, and she can annihilate most levels in a turn or two
