There's stuff you can pick up on the streets to fight with like usual but not anything you can carry, no. They changed the d-pad configuration, left, right, and up are quick-item uses which you assign from the phone menu while down is your style switch button.

The gameplay has some very nice additions to it like wall running, leaping over/sliding under people, and you can launch enemies with blue to combo them with red. Everything in general feels great and fun and I hope a lot of the additions are in Shin.
