Todd is actually /ourguy/, not even memeing. He's a fucking nerd who played D&D and likes real RPGs, he wants to recreate that sense of freedom in an unparalleled sandbox environment. You can shit on BGS games for not being cinematic enough, or for having a disjointed narrative, or for breaking down in some places, but you know what? That's exactly what a real D&D campaign is like. Pure fucking chaos. No tabletop plot survives contact with the players. And no BGS game survives contact with its players either. And that's why I think Todd hasn't just created a bunch of the greatest and truest RPGs ever to be ayed on a computer - I think he's actually surpassed even the greatest minds in this regard. Warren Spector says his entire motivation for making RPGs is to recreate the wonder he felt when he first played D&D in the 1970s. Todd Howard has achieved that in a fraction of the time. He is a living legend and deserves his lifetime achievement award.
