Banjo came out when smash 64 was still in early dev you dumb shit, smash 64 like 90% of n64 games took less than a year of dev time, and thats including the alpha when the game wasnt a mascot fighter at all. Banjo wasnt included because:

A. Roster size limitations due to short dev time
B. Banjo was too fresh, hadn't yet proved itself to be popular worldwide.

Fact is that if banjo had come out a bit earlier, or if smash 64 had a few months more dev time, 99% chance banjo wouldve been in the game because nintendo was pushing that fucker like they push splatoon and fire emblem.

Well, Banjo is tangentially related I guess, so this is as good a place as any.
