His interactions with Lady make him realize that he can't run away from his responsibilities as a son of Sparda. He needs to stop his brother and protect humanity, but he needs to embrace his demonic heritage to do this; reconcile his demonic strength with his humanity.

First cutscene shows it in the middle of the city. It shifts a bit when it grows, but you can tell from the view at the top of the tree that it's pretty central.

Also, considering Red Grave city is pretty much London, there are no outskirts like the one shown in Urizen's boss room.

It bugs me because 3 managed to have a really tight, perfectly driven story. There are no internal plot inconsistencies or badly explained character motivations anywhere, and they kept it down to a simple McGuffin chase with a twist towards the end.
This one tried to have 3 character perspectives, a non linear timeline, and a mystery everyone guessed from the second they found out V's name. And what baffles me about the larger series-wide canon inconsistencies is that they went to the trouble to fit in shit from the manga, all 3 novels and the anime, then just somehow let a bunch of other inconsistencies happen anyway.

I think Bingo is a bad writer in general, but the two DMC games he penned by himself start off as these over complicated novels, then they get hacked up by the team needed to change story elements due to budget or time or whatever. Mission 18 onwards reeks of a late development rewrite.

Redgrave city is not exactly like London to make a bold claim that it has no outskirts of such appearance.
Dante's house is not in the prologue, if you are talking about that house vaguely seen when people are observing the tree, there is no confirmation that it is the exact same house and not some random of same architecture.
In fact, when we see Vergil dragging himself to it, there don't seem to be any buildings around it.

How to fix DMC5's ranking system:
Three criteria:
1. Style points
2. Damage taken
3. Time taken

Just like The Wonderful 101. People don't like going around the level just to collect red orbs, right? Me neither. That's why it's not included. Time Taken should always be a factor in your overall score. People who take too long to beat a level are not being stylish. People who take damage in a level are also not being stylish.

Right now, the current DMC5 scoring system is basically a participation trophy. As long as you're not braindead and can get through the level without dying, you get a free 20% score bonus. If you play passive and lame, you can also get that sweet no-damage bonus of 200% of your score. In the current game, there is absolutely no incentive to go fast.

Your final score card should go from D > C > B > A > S > SS > SSS.

It has some alright ideas but the dialogue he's written is terrible and Urizen being Sparda would have been a bad idea. Sparda should never be brought back, in my opinion. That ending also essentially has nothing for Nero. The way Bingo used Nero as the catalyst to put an end to Dante and Vergil's feud was legitimately perfect. Not only does it make a lot of sense, it gives every character important and significant roles within the climax of the story and allows for believable growth and change for all three characters that feels natural.

Everything that happened in every other game is a direct result of Vergil's actions. The world never needed saving until he fucked everything up.
V wanting to give Nero Sparda gives V a reason to hunt Sparda and in the process find Dante, him disregarding Nero as soon as he finds Dante is part of the whole, "Useless dead weight," arc.
Destroying blood roots wasn't meant to kill the tree, but weaken Urizen. "Blood is the source of his strength. I must cut off his supply." This is why Nero can cut him and make him stand in their rematch.

Malphas wants Urizen to succeed, the only time she suggests otherwise is when she says, "We must not let him reach the fruit," but this is when Dante, V, and Nero are also heading towards the fruit so she could just as easily be talking about them. Urizen doesn't care about Sparda because either he doesn't want to rely on dad's power but instead get his own, or because he knew it was protecting Dante and didn't want other demons interfering with his vendetta.
Nobody said that parts of the Qliphoth don't remain while it's sleeping.

There are a lot of good points to be made against the game's story but most of these aren't them.

The story was unusually sloppy this time around and the cutscene/in-game dialogue felt they were written by 2 completely different writers.

The point is to hit a balance between combo and time so that the two criteria make the other more difficult. In game that ranks both your stylish points and time to clear properly you wouldn't just spam your fastest killing weapons/moves because you'd do poorly in stylish points.

Don't get hit = 2x score modifier
Don't die = 1.2x score modifier

So even if you only get 2,500 style points, you can still get multiplied to 6,000 with those modifiers and get the S-rank.

I think it's a pretty good compromise. The faster you are, the more bonus points you get.

Their dialogue with Vergil and interactions with him were completely nonsensical given everything that happened. There's just no way around it, and whoolie/pat touched on it pretty well.

He's on a suicide mission, it's all he has at that point. The only way he can force Dante to actually kill him (if Dante is strong enough to do so) is by forcing his hand by with-holding the Yamato. The reason he doesn't immediately fight Dante is completely within his character, there is no meaning in fighting Dante when he's weakened.

It's "the end of Vergil's nightmares" and "Dante's war". The culmination of their clashing idealolgies. If Dante kills him than his suffering will be over and he'll have been rightfully punished for his wrong-doings. If Vergil beat Dante than it would re-affirm, in his mind, that his pursuit of power was ultimately correct. He would then go and do what he ended up doing with Dante, which was destroying the Qliphoph. Then he'd probably go revenge kill Mundus with his new-found power or something.

Even if he had won, I don't think he would have killed Dante. Although I do think Dante would have killed him. At the same time I don't even know if they can even kill each other, to be honest.

The smirk isn't a "I'm not going to kill you, let's fuck around" smirk. It exists to show the understanding that each character shares. Despite their differences and not actually getting to be around each other for most of their lives, nobody understands either of them anywhere near the level they understand each other.

If at that moment Dante decided he didn't want to kill his brother, he wouldn't have angrily attempted to bum rush him after Nero rocked up. You know, the part where he tells Nero to fuck off again and he gets his shit slapped.

Her entire basis as a character is that she's a copy of somebody else. That's probably why all her weapons are also somebody elses.

He is not portrayed as a good guy though. And I don't really understand how you got to this conclusion. The story shows the ambivalence of his feelings which doesn't not make him bad but does not make him good either. He is doing only what he wants to do. And even Dante doesn't really trust him at the end of the game even if his distrust his only a good excuse for him to stay with his brother. So no, he is not a bad guy but he is not really a good one either. Back in 3, it was also kind of the same. He is a driven type of person, who doesn't care about casualties but who doesn't do things to purposefully create casualties. There is an evolution in his personality in 5, it's subtle but it's there. So no DMC5 does not ruin him, it's the complete opposite for me.

A scene I think people misinterpreted is the one where he kills Arkham. His words make it seem like he kills him because he's weak but I think he kills him due to being disgusted that the man would kill his own wife and daughter.

It's a lazy port of the DmC outfit.

but the culmination of DMC3 and the reason why Dante was willing to kill Vergil at the end was because combining the amulets and unsealing Sparda's strength meant keeping the gate between the human and demon worlds open, which would literally result in the destruction of the human world

I don't think Vergil should get multiple weapons, that's Dante's thing and they need to make Vergil more distinct now that he's in the 3rd character role. Instead they should give Yamato different styles similar to how DmC did it but developed way better.

Eh. Nero's rocking simple boots and pants. The most complex thing about his design is the jacket, but the way it's sectioned makes it pretty easy to mod. Dante has a simple Henley shirt, but everything else is a bit "loud" even if the colors are muted. There's a bunch of details on his pants, belt straps on his boots, and the jacket has a lot of sections. I maintain that Nero has the simplest and best design of the bunch, but I'd also like to see more mods for Dante's clothes.

You both should have been aware that Vergil was not a fully developed playable character in 3, he hasn't been in any of them always a fun extra but he's now set up for a protag role and doing the Dante thing again would just damage both Dante and Vergil as Vergil would be a rehash and his gameplay would devalue Dante which is why he needs to be more distinct like V was.
