It's simply because of the translator being excessively literal. "Onichan!" becomes "big brother!"

In all honesty Japanese honorifics are a bitch and there's no good way to translate them. They rarely use family members' names, and trying to translate onii-sama/onii-san/onii-chan/aniki as big brother/little bro/bro just ends up being awkward.

It's definitely one of the highlights of the game for us. God, I love how you can develop so many different strats to get through the fights. It's so much fun.
